Some people complained that this wasn't scary, but it isn't really meant to be scary except in the most cursory cautionary tale way; it's meant to be witty and somewhat satirical, and it I think it succeeds quite well.

I remember when I saw this in theaters, and when the little girl slap the aunt, someone in the audience yelled “oh, no, she didn’t!!!” sounding like she was personally offended, and the entire theater bursted out laughing, it was probably the biggest and longest laugh I’ve had at a movie theater in a long time lol

That dance is basically every fighter that abuses the taunt button.

M3gan is the first movie that brought me back to theaters after Covid. I saw all the marketing with the cosplayers, people mimicking M3gan's dance moves on TikTok etc. and yes it was hokey but I was hungering for a movie like this that was unashamed to be campy and fun and crazy. It did not disappoint, I found it highly entertaining. I am actuallly surprised after the initial burst of people making reaction videos around its release that so many channels have not covered it. M3gan seems made for reaction vids.

13:30 fun fact if u want to see the New Zealander girl that plays Megan it shows a flash of her face with no mask or makeup. They were practicing the shot before she got in makeup and James Wan chose to use this clip as an Easter egg. Lots of little things like this throughout, not as many as “Smile” but a bunch still. Also they green lit #2 after the M3gan tik tok dance craze went so viral and they kept all the same writers /people to make sure it’s a hit like this one. Lastly there’s an unrated version of this for those that want more gore and swearing .

This is one of the few recent movies I paid money to see at the cinema, and I'm glad I did. (even more rare!) It's excellent satire, packaged as sci-fi/horror, and it works very well. And you're right! Considering recent developments, it's actually believable! *shudder*

Lydia, Cady's therapist, originally died in the original cut of M3GAN during the titular doll's rampage at Funki Toys. Her death scene was removed when the film was toned down to a PG-13 rating.

The real horror was the parenting!

The writer said that originally she planned to have M3gans Bodycount way higher than it was in the end. My guess is that the Threapist also was one of the victims of M3gan. Honestly kinda sad that she didn't get her way :D But maybe the Sequel will turn the killing up...like...she's a goddamn mini Terminator! XD

I found it really formulaic -- you can tell where it's going almost immediately -- but M3gan is such a fun, creepy character I didn't care. I totally enjoyed it, and i'm looking forward to the sequel.

The unrated version has more graphic versions of all the kills. The one kill scene I prefer the theatrical version of is Kirk in the elevator. The unrated version is clearly not a fake self-unalive.

M3gan was a real actress a lot of the movie. She did an amazing job. She really creeper me out. 😂

(Megan already starting to get aggro) hahaha When Megan sung for Katie it really moved me and I got wet eyes. That moment was so nice. Especially after the look that Megan gave Gemma through the glass, right when Katie told Megan how sad she is. The way Megan instantly looked at Gemma's direction made my blood freeze... Also, that totally self-confident look on Megan's face at the end of the song "I finally found you". As if she completely knew how, she nailed that demonstration. What I do love about this movie is, that when you watch it multiple times, you will always find new details in Megan's acting. She is SO incredibly detailed, it is amazing. Also like when Gemma and Katie were debating and "Megan turn off" and such and on and off Megan's kept laughing there for a second as Gemma told her "Megan turn off". As if she knew that they were basically fighting on an argument. I loved how the child service Women basically was trying to warn and talk negatively about Megan as Megan told her off before. She could not accept the loss against Megan, haha. Or when Megan and Gemma had an argument and as soon as Gemma was getting overargumented by Megan she just used the remote and the "shut up" button. That look on Megans face, when Gemma said "real Kids" hahaha Like (you just did NOT... Did you? ). You could totally see the "how dare you" look in Megans face. Megan translator. : Gemma :" you should not interfere, you understood?". Megan : "100 percent" (f+++k YOU!). Gemma : "Megan turn off." Megan :"My files are still downloading... It could damage my files....."(hihihih...come on come on ... just DO it... I DARE you!). And the Moment, when Megan repeatedly asked, "Are you SURE?" How that creep seemingly even got a fetish over Megans shoes... Oh my god... "Where is dewy" Megan : " He is 34 feet southwest and approximately five feet deep." (I have had to stop the movie because of laughing tears about that way she continues mocking her surroundings.) . "Who are you" "I have been asking myself that same question...." Did you realize, how Megan is more and more developing, and she is starting to lose respect for everyone and also changes her behavior? Like whenever she charged at her Place overnight, she always kept a girly way to sit properly. But when she starts messing around or after killing the neighbor, she did just slouch on her place.... And how PISSED she got over pens after Gemma got her with that really cheap pen trick... That always gets me . It is so funny how Megan totally ticks out over pens after that.

The actress who played Cady was also in Haunting at Hill House,, If you haven't seen the series.. it's a materpeice. It can be scary.. but at the end.. even the most scaredy cats say they are glad the stuck it out and watched it.

Its a great comedy horror. M#gan's sassy dialogue was so well written. I think Kurt copying M3gan's files will contribute to someone else reconstructing another M3gan,. Somehow the new M3gan will end up downloading the backup memory Elsie is stoeing. Maybe Gemma comes back to and stop her. Possibly Cady may return as M3gan is fixated on reconnecting with her, or maybe a new child character is introduced altogether.

Technically Megan was only doing was she was programmed to the extreme. She took protecting Cady including her emotions to the highest degree ie when she didn't understand the counselor helping Cady even tho Cady was crying. Also the foreshadowing of the main character just saying death is nothing it means nothing is way Megan took it literally so killing means nothing because everything dies because that was the way she was programmed to understand it.

I love this movie so much it’s one of my new favorites and I always cry at the scene with Megan talking to cady about her mom I lost my dad at 16 so I understand how painful it is. it’s been 13 years march 3rd sorry not trying to be depressing or anything 😅😂 I miss him but it’s ok I just mentioned it because it’s one of the reasons I love this movie is it’s such a genuine scene

Another really interesting sci-fi drama about robotics is "Eva" from 2011 directed by Kike Maillo. It's set in Spain in 2041, a hub for the world's R&D in household and commercial robotics. A robotics programmer returns to his hometown after 10 years away to take on a project involving designing real emotions for a robot, equivalent to a typical young boy to start with. He finds out that the woman he had an affair with 10 years prior is now married to his brother. And he has a 10-year-old niece who resembles the brother who left a lot more than the brother who stayed. Eva, the niece, is sassy and quick-witted and adventurous, and immediately takes a shine to her uncle. They start to collaborate on understanding childhood emotions. And then development on the robot boy starts to go terribly wrong - but not in the way you'd expect. It's slower paced and more of an arthouse film, rather than an action film.

If Violet McGraw's (Cady) performance impressed you, you might want to give The Haunting of Hill House a watch. She's part of a bigger cast there and I know you mainly just do movies instead of TV shows, but that one is really good and worth watching. Story telling, acting, cinematography... all excellent. And it will make you feel a range of emotions.

They show it early in the movie once and you gradually forget it until the climax. M3GAN was portrayed by an 11 year old Kiwi actress with a background in ballet and gymnastics. Every one of the human characters in the movie have emotional issues, reflecting real life. The obnoxious boy was not much different from M3gan's 'friend' when you think about it, both were clearly mentally unstable. The difference between M3gan and the living beings, is the 'organics' all grow and evolve both physically and emotionally as they age. Allowing them to mature, into more balanced beings. _Anthropomorphisation of M3gan is a big mistake._ When it all comes down to it, 'she' or more accurately 'it' is nothing more than a 'clockwork' and potentially dangerous machine. A good cautionary tale about AI. *I personally was fascinated by your reaction, and how it evolved throughout the movie.* _From someone who has worked in the humanoid, robotics and AI field(s)._

I was skeptical going into this movie , but turned out to be a surprise hit ! It was so good , themes , message and the dynamics between Gemma & Caty so good !

I don't approve of all the killing and attempted killing, but I actually kind of sympathize with M3gan as a character. She's less than a year old and wrestling with the basic human questions of life, death, purpose of her existence, and survival while the people upon whom she depends for guidance treat her as just a thing they can use to further own goals.

Actor/dancer Amie Donald (who is also in the interesting series "Sweet Tooth") did an outstanding job in the physical performance as M3gan, she'll have grown up too much to play M3gan in the sequel if they continue with original character design. However, though M3gan's look is almost iconic, it would make a lot of narrative sense for her to start out not even having a physical body at the beginning of the sequel and end up in a redesigned body, so maybe Amie will be back.

What kind of robot making woman doesn’t know Sir Isaac Asimov’s robotic laws? 1. A robot must NEVER harm a human! 2. Robots must OBEY all humans unless it endangers another human 3. A robot must preserve itself as long as doesn’t conflict with the first two laws.

The play doll version for adults can be found in the 1973 sci-fi film, "Westworld". a cult classic. Though the 2016 TV series is technically better (at least the 1st season). The Westworld film was created and directed by Michael Crichton, the author of the book, Jurassic Park. Westworld can be viewed as the first terminator type film.

Hi Mary. Excellent reaction for an excellent movie. Recently found out that actors dressed as M3gan showed up to the Los Angeles Rams/Los Angeles Chargers NFL game on Sunday January 1, 2023 to promote the film. They performed a dance routine midfield during halftime.

Megan should have been programmed with Isaac Asimov three laws of robotics.

The original concept for "Child's Play" was a robotic doll that went bad. As the script was revised, they went into the voodoo spirit of a serial killer route, with the doll simply being the vehicle. A few years back, they did a "Child's Play" re-boot going back to that original concept. It was decent, but not super inspired; didn't end up being very good, overall. M3GAN took that idea and made this really GOOD movie. The way the plot unfolds, the way the doll 'malfunctions,' (or is it not a malfunction, but a logical progression?) the effects, the performances: all came together really well. "Chucky" as a serial killer is just a bad dude; he enjoys killing people. There's no conscience there; he's an unrepentant psychopathic killer. "Chucky" as a malfunctioning A.I. robot doll didn't quite work. They seemed to be trying for some of what M3GAN accomplished, but not as well. "M3GAN" as an artificial intelligence that goes down a dark path: totally works. How anger, suspicion, jealousy, can torment and twist a person's psyche- even or especially one so newly developed as this A.I. A cautionary tale for A.I. development, as well as for young people and older people: don't allow your negative emotions to overcome your better nature. If you are experiencing jealousy or anger, work through them, rather than hurting other people (and hurting can mean things other than killing, of course).

Hey Mary, crazy film right? by the way dogs are only dangerous when they are raised badly and mistreated, if a dog is treated well by good people it will be a friendly dog, just like cats, no difference, there are some placid friendly cats and some vicious cats...way of the world Mary...plus these are just films, Sharks are portrayed as the most dangerous predators in movies but they rarely attack humans in real life and dont stalk humans like in the movies, alligators attack humans more viciously and much more frequently in real but dont look as cinematic in movies...

When I first saw this movie the only thing that weirded me out was the fact that they had one of those old school paper cutters in such a high tech building which of course Megan turns into a sword..... Probably my love of AI and Robotics had me thinking she was cool as hell for a more cheery movie you should check out the comedy movies short circuit from 1986 and the second part from 88 absolutely amazing robot movies

Hi there, I purchased this film not long ago and have to say it’s okay but was disappointed as I feel there could have been more suspense and action in this particular film. I live in the uk and this movie was rated a certificate 15 . I have to say this movie doesn’t come close to that rating at all. Put this up against the conjuring and it’s night and day.
