After years of unsuccessful attempts to get a MTB brand involved with my channel I'm over the moon to say the wait was well worth it as I've ended up with a legit dream bike!
More details of the bike here:
global.pivotcy...
I want to give a MASSIVE thanks to Josh and the team at Saddleback and to the folks at Pivot HQ for giving their blessings, I hope I'll do you all proud.
saddleback.co.uk
Other huge thanks of course go out to my other sponsors who all helped make this bike possible...I would love it if you gave them some love with purchases or even simple messages thanking them for trusting in me and my channel.

Pinnd Components www.pinnd.co.uk
Schwalbe Tyres www.schwalbe.c...
Hayes Brakes hayesbicycle.com
Industry Nine industrynine.com/
Rimpacts Tyre Inserts www.rimpactmtb...
I'll be taking this on the streets and trails soon!
I'd love to know your thoughts!
Thanks for watching!

Im pretty sure your drill should have a torque setting with a slip clutch which you could have used. I love that you started on the first bolt in impact mode though, pro move.
@sandy_knight

I wouldn't use a drill that doesn't have a clutch on it. I'd set the clutch to its lowest setting so it stops easily and tighten the last few turns by hand with the torque wrench. AFAIK it's usually sub 5Nm.

I'd recommend using carbon paste rather than grease for the seat tube and other carbon parts. Grease causes slip but you want "grip" when clamping on carbon to avoid over tightening!
@Ali_Clarkson

Ah yes good point! I’ll be sure to get some
@nilz6432
@nilz6432 Год назад
I once greased a seatpost and it slipped for the next half year until i washed it out with half a litre of brake clean. I only use carbon assembly paste now, even on aluminium parts, or mount stuff dry.

@@nilz6432 I can’t stand the seizing from dry mounting. Carbon paste all the way.
@MrAmorti

Regular grease is also bad for most plastics (Carbon = Carbon Reinforced Plastic!) as it absorbs into it, and swells the material over time. I've seen big problems regular plastic and rubber parts, no direct experience in carbon though

Carbon paste is also approved to be used with carbon. Some oils/greases can have a negative effect on many polymers.

I feel you on the xtr excitement though 😂 i remember getting and xtr 7 speed shifter once,infact its still in my old bits box somewhere.i never did end up being able to afford the mech tho which was probably a good thing seeing as how many mechs we used to get through riding trials before they brought out those tensioners! Me and DJ had a cheap favourite in the end,the Sora short cage.every time,the first mod we did was get rid of the tension spring and add a few washers to lock them in place and reduce noise!😂 Well chuffed for you getting the pivot hook up bud!

It does look really sweet Ali, and 650B wheels makes perfect sense for the sort of stuff you'll be doing on it. Overall, sweet build, might have gone for the 10-45 cassette instead of the 10-51 to get closer gear ratios for exactly when you're playing around and stuck to XT because, maybe sponsored, but ma does it smart when you destroy and XTR RD - if shifting performance was what you were after, would have been better to get the ZTR shifter paired to the XT RD. One thing though, PLEASE, properly adjust/clock that fork axle, that is not how it is supposed to be clocked, it is not actually fully locked like that, it should be vertical.
@Ali_Clarkson
@Ali_Clarkson Год назад
I didn’t have much choice on the spec, this is a standard build they do (minus my sponsors parts and the wolf tooth bits), I requested the bike came in bits so I could build it. As for the fork…if I had it vertically I think I’d struggle to close it, it’s pretty tight as it is tbf
@lynxg4641
@lynxg4641 Год назад
@@Ali_Clarkson That's why, if you look on the opposite side/NDS to the lock, you'll see a piece that can be rotated to change how the axle threads in to adjust the clocking of the axle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CU35-JZoFwo.html

@judechandler5102
@judechandler5102 Год назад
I am extremely picky when it comes to geo and aesthetics for my mtbs, and the downtube not meeting the BB as a straight tube (courtesy of the shock needing somewhere to mount) is the only thing that ruled out Pivot, who were top of my list alongside the YT Izzo (wouldn't work as I don't want a 29er). Shimano's current generation more expensive chains are fine now that they've finally agreed to use a joining link just like their competitors. Their older/cheaper chains with those stupid break-away connecting pins give me every reason to avoid them. If I'm installing one, I throw that pin in the garbage and grab a KMC quick link. My boss fitted a Shimano chain for a customer recently and that damn pin broke at the start line of his race the following weekend... My boss' attitude towards Shimano chains has shifted significantly because of it, and we apologised a lot for the failure even if we weren't responsible for it. I've witnessed some drama with KMC chains too, but there's no way you'd ever get me willingly giving SRAM money. (Not to mention SRAM chains tested as the least efficient of the big brands, which might have something to do with durability.)
