The anti-drop chorus was both brilliant and an homage to the plethora of late 90's early 2000's R&B and hip hop girl groups who regularly used them. It was brilliant because not only do they subvert everyone's expectations with the build up then anti-drop, but they give the song pretty incredible dynamics and still leave room at the end for the build up to lead to a huge drop that has a much bigger impact overall.

I think with the chorus you either love it or hate it. I happen to love it. Many times Teddy and Blackpink take a song in a direction you don't expect. That chorus resides in my head. Plus to leave the big drop for the end is genius in my eyes.

If you couldn't enjoy the chorus... That means that you had never appreciated Black Girl Group's standard of anti-drop in their choruses. Like those of Blaque, TLC, Destiny's child, En Vogue and even JADE. The aesthetic of it, the choreography, even the scene settings with those flowing curtains, beige/ cream outfits on the first chorus and modernized fit and scene for the second chorus bringing that aesthetic contrast that gives focus. And to point out that the chorus instrumentals were arabic or hindu-esque have never thought about listening to Candy Shop or those types of music from the 90's with the beat and synth flowing like that. The fact that they gave homage not only to Hip Hop Rap on so many aspects, but also to the Black Girlgroups of the 90's releasing this in 49th HipHop Month (August) is something of a feat. Because they paid HOMAGE not shout outs for clout. This is their first STEP for their Comeback and they paid HOMAGE. Not for breaking records or getting bank... But for homage. Most Expensive and had the members had no expectations on breaking records. THAT SAYS ALOT. Blackpink is The Revolution and they're only getting started. That Glass Ceiling for Women Artists being Broken whilst being continuously compared to Male Groups, pulled down by haters, ridiculed by Misogynistic locals, and snubbed by Local Koreans. Meanwhile those authentic hiphop, rock and roll and LGBT fans listen in and tune in to the Girl Group that intends to break records held by alot of people and leave the low standard behind.

OMG. The platform with the lines, where Jisoo is in the center, is similar to the design on the box of Dior’s poison girl perfume. Jisoo is the ambassador for Dior so that is so fitting. Never made the connection until you stopped the video there.

I think the term for the chorus is called an anti-drop. Where it builds up to what you believe is gunna be a beat drop but goes lighter than harder. They’re know for beat drops so many fans were surprised. They also did this is whistle.

I had the same reaction when I heard the chorus the first time 😅. But it grows on you fast. This is a banger and the Queens did their thing. And ofc no doubts about the visual aspects being crazy good since it's blackpink. Great reaction 👌 The instrument is a traditional Korean string instrument called geomungo (coolest and fun name ever).

Fun fact. PINK VENON officially reached 90.4 million views in 24 hours on youtube, and is the only kpop song (in all history) to be #1 on SPOTIFY GLOBAL for 3 consecutive days, it also reached #1 on BILLBOARD HOT TRENDING. any doubt why they are the QUEENS OF KPOP? 😉

As an editor - cuts creates energy and they intent to do that because it gets boring if you let certain clips soaked specially in the chorus which is an anti drop.

fun fact: PINK VENOM officially became the first and only kpop song (in all history) to be 2 consecutive days #1 on SPOTIFY GLOBALLY. also achieving 86.3 million views in 24 hours (although it's probably more than 90 million) and youtube will give the official figure in a matter of days.

This song has an anti-drop chorus, I think what it is called. I respect your personal opinion but the chorus is not boring, it's just a slow drop. When I hear the song for the first time, I feel shocked at first for the first chorus but the second time it drops its sells to me. Many people always complain so much about Blackpink doing the hard drop every song so that's why the structure of the song is anti-drop. it feels like a response for that person in my opinion.

I also wonder if because the versus are so hard and dramatic that they use the anti drip chorus as a “relief” point so you get the contrast and breathing time. If the whole song goes hard then it can be a bit OTT

Teddy the producer is damn if he does and damn if he doesn’t. If he comes out hard with the chorus, he’ll be criticized for being unoriginal for going back to the same well once again. If he doesn’t come hard then he’ll be criticized for being not hard enough. It’s time for the critics to come up more original. It’s the same old whining song from them

They've done the hard hitting drop in chorus for majority of their songs, so I think they wanted to experiment with the anti-drop. YG doesn't play with budget when it comes to creating art. Most of their artists' videos are crisp. They love to flex that they are a rich company.

I know this is old. But I really don’t like the chorus and even the rap. You could pretty much cut after Jennie’s opening, and go to rose and jisoo at the end. I loved shutdown. But I just can’t listen to this whole song and enjoy it. Lisa’s bit is ok and rose and jisoos bits are good but the chorus and rap in the middle just doesn’t fit.
