I live in a town along the Mississippi that was once the pearl button capital of the world. We once had oysters and mussels galore filling the river, and then they were hunted almost to extinction. It takes one hundred years for a bed of oysters or mussels to grow to the size needed to restore the Mississippi to it's former cleanliness and grandeur, so although pearls are beautiful, I have a deep distaste for things made of them because I know the destruction of removing one single oyster or mussel from it's natural habitat. If you don't know what I mean, research how oysters, mussels, and clams help filter water. One additional point I would like to make, though, is that Mississippi mussels only live 60-70 years, but in the time it takes for them to reproduce, it can take hundreds of years for them to build up a large enough population to have a filtering bed.
Isn't that the company that abuses axolotls as advertisements. Like, taking them out of water, cramping them in a tiny space and aggressively dropping them against hard concrete Or is it another company that sells the same product-
@@Falkayy Yeah, they advertise their products with axolotls in the background either out from water (which is extremely painful for them) or cramped with other axolotls.
@@jin8542 Nooooo wtf is wrong with people?? Axolotl's look like such gentle creatures who shouldn't be harmed. Seriously fuck the company. They should release those Axolotl
@@aniqahisnotanigah762 I agree. I would never support these type of fake pearl companies, they even shamelessly show how they abuse the animals on tiktok. Take note that it's not only Renessa Pearls that do these type of animal abuse advertisement videos, there are more companies out there that do this, however, Renessa Pearls is one of the most notable animal abusing companies. As much as these pearl jewelery kits look pretty and fun, the companies behind it aren't.
Idk how I feel about clams being used as pearl factories. Like, your farming a living animal, irritating it’s insides so it produces a pearl, and sending them out to people to be killed and ripped apart all for the amusement of people. Idk, it just seems really wrong. And I’ve seen RU-vid channels that are dedicated to opening hundreds of them.
@Kazu ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ yeah but scienctists have been wrong, its difficult to truly assess how a creature feels, we can only assess from our current perspective and understanding. Not saying people shouldn't eat oysters but i feel its important to remember scienctific reality is constantly changing.
They cant feel pain and its not any different then local butchers shop killing cows or chickens most oysters that are collected for pearls are treated amazing they open them gently take the peals and the shut them and put it back in the tank oysters are more or less like a plant aswell and if humans don’t value animals that are things that are living we don’t value ourselves bc we are animals aswell 😊
Why do I feel bad for the oyster- I mean its a living being *( okay ya’ll. i dont care if they don’t feel anything or its dead. No I’m not a vegan. i simply said what I felt and ya’ll cant change that. if I feel bad then I feel bad. So please stop making drama in the comments. My feelings is my feelings.)*
@@taniathorkelson413 Actually after i did some Researching, i learned that Oysters can't think and they don't have a nervous system so they can't feel pain They're mainly just in the ecosystem for other organisms
No one said that oysters feel pain. The fact that she bought a real living animal just to put a nice pearl in a necklace is concerning. Before you jump all over me with comments defending Katie just watch how natural pearls are extracted and how this effects our oceans’ ecosystems. PS: I like Katie too and watch her videos. I just don’t encourage watching this and buying natural pearls. Update: since everyone is giving their opinion about oysters and how they are just ‘animals’ I considered necessary to explain the situation a bit. Yes. They feel pain and even get stressed. The result of these sensations or feelings is the pearl inside them. A pearl is a result of a natural defense mechanism against an irritant in the sea. They cover the irritant with many layers of ‘nacre’ until the pearl is formed. People tend to say that they don’t feel pain because they don’t have a developed nervous system but it’s not true. They most probably don’t feel the pain with much intensity but it doesn’t mean they don’t feel anything. And don’t include in this category all shells because the lack of central nervous system doesn’t apply for all. And don’t you ever say an animal is just an animal. This goes against our nature. We should respect everything around us. We don’t own this planet 🌍. We share it with other living creatures. We borrow its resources. The least we can do is to protect it.
I was shocked to see that nobody is talking about that poor oyster!💔 The whole concept of 'find your own pearl' is cool but the company could have used something non-living thing rather than a real oyster.😔
@@cherrybella1545 no it wasn’t a mall it was this massive place that was like four or five story’s and it was super big when you check outed they give you these massive bags literally a human could fit in one if they sit down and there would be extra room
Storytime: Me and my sister were at our local theme park and they had a booth where you could choose a oyster and then you would get the pearl out of it. I picked my oyster, and as the lady was opening it she was telling me about the colors. She listed all if them and then said, "And then there is another one, cranberry, and I've never seen anybody get it." So I was thinking oh cool, I would love to get that one. Well she opened the oyster and it had a cranberry pearl in it. That was one of the best days of my life. R.I.P little oyster
I remember when I got one of these when I was a kid and was like “wait aren’t these expensive? Why is it only $12? I could resell this for millions!!!!” 😂
For people hating on this girl for "hurting an oyster " or starting un-needed drama in the comments. oysters are non-sentient beings with no brain or advanced central nervous system, so they're unable to feel pain. Some say they do and some say they don't feel pain. But they don't feel pain. Yes they're alive but they don't have the brain or nervous system to feel pain. People also say the pearl is like "pain" for the oyster. Honey they don't even feel pain. People do your research on animals, sea life ect. I'm 16 and I know more facts then some of y'all.
@@creapuff1788 Actually I really am. But I don't say everyone needs to be vegan. My boyfriend is not vegan and I accept that. It's everyone's free will. But I want him to eat smart. Don't eat that everyday and buy meat only from small farm's, where they do treat the animals right and they kill them by themself humanly ( And they let baby cows with their mothers even tho they took their milk for products. ). I still hate that. I still do belive that animals aren't there for us. And I hope someday he will see it like that too. HOWEVER it's different hurt animal cause you belive it gives your body nutrition ( Its dumb and cruel but... ) And hurt animal cause you want some stupid jewerly or something. That's just different level of being an asshole
My brother gave me on of those a few months before he passed away. I was 11 at the time and didn't realize how important it was. Now, I cherish it and wear it everyday 🙏💜
I remember doing a pick your own oyster at a mall in Orlando when I went there on holiday. I got the classic cream pearl thats in a necklace fitting now (they actually drilled into it to fit it) and my mum got a silverblue colour which is in a ring setting that I now have since she passed they are gorgeous. Also Oysters are farmed and grown just like plants are, whilst they originally were wild you can technically plant them and harvest them over and over again with the right conditions, its done so much in Galways they actually have a yearly festival for them to eat and back in the 1700 and 1800’s they were actually cheaper than anything and eaten as peasant food and put into steak pies to bulk it out. These with the pearl inside are specifically cultivated for this use and kept away from areas that are cultivated for the flesh.
You don't cultivate one oyster over and over. They have to be killed for you to get your pearl. Just because we learned to exploit them does not mean it's right. But don't get me wrong I love pearls.
i used to always get these when i was a kid! they came from a retired pearl diver and hand picked/dived them, it was beautiful and i used to wish on them before wearing, i once wished to see a butterfly (ik weird, i was like 6 ok lmao) and later that week we went to a butterfly garden! i love these necklaces and i hope to get more in the future
I also have one. One of classmates gave it to me as a present since his mother lives in Greece and she got it from there. I think I got the peach one or the white? I haven't wore it that often and honestly I forgot the colour, though I still like this necklace a lot.
@@adjjalnot all animals feel pain because some animals dont have a nervous system, most pearls are from oyster farms they collect the pearl without killing them💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
The people whining in the comments probably eat meat so they really cant complain. Oysters dont have advanced pain receptors or brain like structures. The meat you eat suffers FAR FAR more than these oysters ever did. I think killing oysters still sucks because they are so vital to the ecosystem, but factory farming hurts the ecosystem far more.
I do completely respect your opinion and understand that they don’t feel pain but I do feel like it is slightly messed up about the part where they rip them out of their habitat and cram them in a can that is cramped and not good for the oyster just for the sake of a tiktok video. Like I said I completely respect your opinion but I do think that putting them in a can for maybe weeks or even years is wrong especially because theyre alive.
It’s a fricken shell. Doesn’t have much of a “life” it doesn’t have a soul, or family, or friends. This world is beautiful and full of natural resources.

I’ve got one of these, they’re so pretty & sometimes you can buy just the oyster (or they make plastic oysters that they put the pearls in if you’re uncomfortable with cracking the oyster open) and you can get different coloured pearls
Wait- I got that before, like around 7 years ago. If I’m correct I got the peach or cream and my mom got the white. I literally got this before, no joke!
No reason you can't. Just wear disposable gloves. Be cautious of any tears or rips during opening of the oyster & dispose of gloves, wash hands & put on new gloves if this happens. Wash the pearl thoroughly (AND carefully!!!) Then DON'T TOUCH anything with bare hands when throwing refuse away.

I have two of these necklaces and two bracelets directly from Savannah, GA!!! Two pearls are peach, one is purple, and the other is cream. My mom grew up in GA! These are real pearls and I LOVE buying these whenever we visit GA!!
I’m new to this channel and yesterday I spent hours watching all of you shorts! You are my new favorite RU-vidr! I love watching you and Sean🤍 Edit:Thanks for all the likes
I bet a lot of the people getting mad over an oyster are the same people that eat meat. Cows are much smarter than a freaking oyster and feel pain a lot. Much worse gets done to cows in slaughterhouses before you take a bite of that steak. Same with pigs. That's what you should be worried about then, not this.
yesss preach!! i'm a vegetarian and people complaining about killing oyster are making me think about going vegan(ish), as is only eating diary but not using animal products

Hey. I've gotten a lot of those as gifts or just in the store and I have learned that you might want to wash the Pearl because after a while it will get smelly
Its like a plant. They dont feel pain but they're alive. We eat/harvest plants and replace it afterwards. If you cut too much trees without replacing it,the environment will get affected, same goes for the species that benefits from it. Im not saying to replace the oyster (afc you cant do that) i dont know that much about pearl and oyster however i do know that you can remove the pearl without killing the Oyster.(So if we can make robots right now then why not make a fake Oyster then place the pearl there and let it be consumed in different ways). "save it.until there's no other options left" Idk if this makes sense to others.Im not good at explaining things anyways and my English isn't good either.
I have a necklace just like that one that I was given to me when I was a baby (possibly given as a birth, 1st Christmas or 1st birthday present) by a relative or family friend (I don’t know, sadly my parents didn’t get the time to write down who gave me what).
Btw I actully brought 2 packs of this kit when I was in vacation and when I identified the pearl I new it was plastic because the bottom had a unnormal shape and the peal had this weird wave like pattern so stuff from these kits are not real but it was enjoyable to open.
Me when I heard her say she was going to open the oyster: oh so she’s going to cut it open with a knife- Me after seeing her use what ever that took is: ooh… she ruined the shell of the oyster-
I see these at dollar general all the time, but what I don't understand is why you can't just buy a normal necklace instead of getting a fake looking pearl and a charm to hold it in that costs 10$- like you can buy so much with 10$ and you choose to spend it on that-
Who else got one of these and then got addicted and then got their friend addicted I know you guys are both addicted and can’t wait to go back to the beach to buy more and spend all your mom‘s money on those that she saved up for the beach for us to spend but we ended up sweating them just on those 😁
I love this idea, it's a cool interactive experience and a beautiful necklace. It makes the whole thing much more fun and interesting. I'd also save the shell, because that silvery color is SO pretty.
@CosmicRen- would u please clarify a detail 4 me? Is the oyster alive OR dead? If it’s still alive, what does it eat & breathe? If it’s dead, doesn’t it smell terrible? While I DO like the necklace & in THEORY the idea of an interactive gift sounds great, in reality, perhaps not so much😢.
@@debrawillier4930 if you still want additional information, it's debated whether oysters are even sentient. They have no brain, or advanced central nervous system, making it extremely unlikely that they even feel pain. On that level, they're basically indistinguishable from plants. They do react to certain stimuli, but then again, so do some species of plants, such as mimosa pudica, otherwise known as the sensitive plant, or the sleepy plant. The oyster in this pack is dead, and doesn't smell due to the canning process, which is a form of preservation.
@@debrawillier4930 there dead when you get them… But asking what they eat if they are alive is kind of stupid it’s just like asking what a plant eats because it is different than us😂😂 and ya it has a weird smell
This is not for me. Yes, I am aware that many things used in our society originate from living creatures. It may just be an oyster, but the idea of killing it for a bauble just doesn't align with me. I don't expect that many will agree, but I think it shows a disregard for life, and that cannot be good for humanity as a whole.
