I purchased this surf rod because i was curious, it actually blew my mind how powerful and how well this rod casts. link: www.basspro.com/shop/en/10082...
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ru-vid.comUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
I've had the 12' for about 3 years now and it's held up well. It handles weight well and isn't too heavy either. Currently paired with a Shimano Speedmaster 14000 XTC.
I'd never heard of the breakwater before but saw it online so picked one up when I was looking for a new sturgeon rod. Got the 12 foot heavy rated for 4-8oz and 20-40lb line. Water was moving more than usual so I threw on a 12oz cannon ball along with my bait and bombed it across the river. Rod handled the weight just fine. Paired it with my Daiwa BG MQ 20000 and 80lb braid. Haven't hooked up on it yet but so far I'm digging this setup. Good review man.
I got the penn fathom 2 LDC because you said it was a good reel and it is. I love it. I tried five different rods with that reel. I picked up that 10footer you have there but I got the spinning version. I liked it so much I went back and got the 12 footer. My longest cast with a sinker is 138 yards with the penn and that 12 footer. I got myself one of those Alijos loprofile reels and put on it. These rods are excellent rods. Glad to see you like it.
I bought a 12 foot one over a year ago. It is amazing, best $100 I have spent. It really helps when casting against the wind. If you cast with the wind it goes almost out of sight.
When I first moved to Houston from London 4 years back I brought my specimen Shimano TX7 carp rods/reels with me. Rods are 12' and with a 3Lb test curve. All with top end components. But for their prices they should be.They handle 4-5 Oz casts all day. Used them on the beach/jetty and brought in big fish. The matching Shimano reels are baitrunners which I also find handy on the shore and cast miles. Saved me $ buying new. So I could go spend it on good spinning gear! Could be worth looking at used or discount ones guys.
I haven’t been able to try that rod yet but the H2O express surf rod has been good to me and only $50 plus it has great warranty through Academy that you don’t have to pay extra money for.
I bought a 12-foot Breakwater rod and paired it with a SpinfisherVI 10500 spooled with 80lb Power Pro last year for my Land Based Shark Fishing (surfcasting rather than yaking out drop baits) and I have caught a couple of 6 footers (a Spinner and Blacktip shark) and the rod helped me pull them in, in just a short few minutes (less than 10 easy) which is important in making sure the sharks are not overly exhausted and go back to the surf strong to fight another day(s). Based on these two sharks and a bunch of smaller ones I think this rod can easily take on a bit larger sharks for sure.
I love these rods!!! I have 5 of them.. It's a beast.. Light weight and strong with a good backbone on them. I have them set up with Dawia BG's. Straight workhorse.. 43" Black Drum and 42" Red.. With ease Rippen Lips all year with these!!
I'm just getting into surf fishing and was thinking about getting an Ugly Stick 11 or 12 footer. But this review might have changed my mind. Thanks you much for doing it.
Ugly sticks are ok. I did not care for their surf rods at all. They were too floppy lol. I have a 12 foot okuma Longitude. It’s good and Ridgid. I have heard since longitudes became very popular they began to mass produce them and their quality has suffered. I got the pole about 13 years ago. I think I’m going to get this one in the video in 9 ft.
i just ordered the 12 foot surf spinner to go with my diawa BG 5000 . they finally got them back in stock . i ordered it from cabelas because they had a pair of leupold binoculars i wanted that bass pro didn't show . supposed to be here the 30th so i'll have them for our trip when we leave on sept 2nd . thanks and take care dude :) .
Love the reviews bud I’m definitely gonna get the 12ft for surf fishing for pompano down here in Jacksonville Florida would work great using a dropper rig with 4 to 5oz sputnik weights
My daiwa sp surf rod snapped in half while i was digging my spider weight out the sand. Broke my heart man. I may invest in this rod, but i have to see how it handles the big boys and digging weights out of sand.
I have had their casting 10ft rod since last July I like it just wish I went up to 5oz over 4oz but it's held up great for the money. I lucked out and caught it on sell for 60 bucks.
I'm a budget rod guy myself and I agree if cost a bit more then it should come with some kind of quality but from what I used to buy higher ends it's more of the warranty that we pay for in price
Dude you are right I love this rod I got the 10' medium 2 peice I got 2 big Amber Jack when deep sea gulf stream full day trip and large 5' bull shark off the pier you're and a large spinner shark or black tip i think it was off the surf in Myrtle Beach and I purchased it at bass pro shop in Myrtle Beach After watching your video It handled that bull shark like a champ I caught 4 others that were 4' that night and many more other nights the rod held up all week Of heavy abuse with 50 pound braid and steel leaders I couldn't go with an expensive real so I got the penn Cheaper spending real for 60 bucks on Amazon 5000 series Such a great combo A 10' hammerhead grab the line went directly under the pier and rift out a bunch of line until it broke The rod even held up with that Big big value in this rod Thank you
I have this reel paired with it’s a penn reel and I’ve landed two 5 foot sharks on it. This things a tank! Only problem I’ve had with it is the top line eye coming off because mid fight the line got wrapped and pulled it off 😂
Was in the fence between this one or the ocean master surf, ended up getting the ocean master because of your review on it. Its really light, Can't wait to try it out
I have eight Diawa Beefsticks 10 & 12 ft surf rods. I have fished them hard for over five years. I have hauled in dozens of 40 inch plus bull reds, two massive stingrays, and a 5 ft bull shark. They have stood up to everything I threw at them.
like the Ocean Master big brother and this looks like a very good daily driver rod worth buying to fill the short 7' or 8' plus a 10' needs to match the 12' OM older cousin. Much as I love my surf fishing it's really hard to pull the trigger $200+ trigger. Action looks nice but can't wait to see it in real action soon?
thinking about getting the 11 or 12 ft for bank/shore fishing the lower james river . i currently have a diawa BG 5000 on a 9 ft ugly stick GX2 and want a better rod for it to reach out farther and add some quality on a absolute max $100 budget . hoping for big cats , stripers and sharks do come in and go much farther up the river . what are your thoughts . take care , jeff
@@BeachBomberFishing that you are, that’s why I watch, for the ‘crispiest’ videos and to extra casting distance! For real though your casting is legit, my shit never looks like that lol
Besides being half the price, how would you compare this to the ocean master? I’m in the market for a casting rod under $200 strictly for surf fishing. I want to pair it with the squall cs. Which rod would you suggest?
Hi thanks for share this rod I already order 1 I would like to know what's the reel that you using ? I want to have the same combo like you thanks you !
My wife bought me one of these rods. Offshore angler Breakwater rod then hurricane Michael hit Florida and I never got to use it until 2024 March and April. Did some striper fishing in lake talquin Florida. Got in a snag and the tip broke of twice as I recovered my $20.00 spoon. I went to amazon and bought a new tip for it thinking I could Salvage the rod. I put the new tip on thinking it would still be usable. I treaded the line and tided on anew lure went out side assembled the rod and grabbed the spoon and pulled down to see it flex. But it didn't flex and it snapped again. WTF? Carbon fiber defective.
g'day mate, I look with interest at your vid's, always something to learn from. I tried to find the Ocean master to buy but I can not find a place to sell it here in Australia. I am curious if I will find the Breakwater. would you please guide me where I can buy them?
How do you think it will handle larger fish in strong current? Something like the 40+ inch stripers in the cape cod canal? I beat the crap out of my stuff up there and this rod would be perfect if it will stand up to those conditions.
Just seeing this video for the first time, impressed with the Breakwater rod, but I cant find anywhere online that says PENN makes the rods for them, everything I see is the cheaper brands have them made in china. I'd love to verify that. I have 2 PENN's the Pursuit & Carnage 9ft & 10ft. I would buy one for this year OBX surf fishing trip to try it out if its true.
I loaded these with 5 1/2 oz with live finger mullet casting easy 50-75 yards not the best professional caster but they were chucking them rigs but I have the heavy 12ft
I'm looking for a surf spinning rod for sharks (under 200lbs) and don't want to spend over 200 bucks. This one seems to light, but maybe the Ocean Master Off Shore Angler heavy 12 foot? Also, the Rockaway 12 foot HD can handle a 16 oz lure weight- does that mean it's strong enough for sharks? Help me out man!
Man I use an offshore angler high tide reel and it’s setup like a spin fisher if penn makes the rods they might make the reels? I don’t know but u can’t find much on the high tide reels I don’t know if they just offer them online anymore or what? Two drag systems ect .. while 9 yards...i don’t know if it’s “sealed” or not, I can’t really understand the terminology on the page about the high tide reel?
Did you say you use your thumb when casting the spinning reel? That may make a nice video - spinning reel casting setup with hand positioning, cast technique.
@@adamthomas4462 The Breakwater line of rods isn't new, the features which are highlited in the video are. My post is not the only one here which references the previous version.
What’s a decent rod to pair this pole up with I’m starting out my first time salt water shore fishing and I don’t really know any good reels could anyone let me know some I’m looking more into the 150 dollar range -200
Huge ff fan also. Do you think the 12' casting version paired with a abu garcia c3 7000 would work well for catfish/gar @, loch n dams and river fishing off the banks in Louisiana? need to get out there pretty far lol.
@@BeachBomberFishing please respond, trying to pull the trigger today lol. I can get the ocean master for the abu garcia c3 7000 round, and the breakwater for a penn 309. Should I do it? Pls respond lol. Big river, heavy currents, rocks etc.
