@@peterhess6039 if it was used in relation to how the car is tuned, no problem watched one video and the comment made was the headlining was black cause it was sporty, wtf, and who thought black headlining was a good idea in the first place
Everyone keeps on about the small wheel. It’s great and there is no problem seeing the instruments unless you deliberately line the wheel up to do that. I have had a 2008 SUV and at the moment a 3008 SUV. All I say is sit in it and if you can’t get comfortable don’t buy it. I love the position and have no problem with seeing the dials.
@petitewhitegirl While true, I will bet you 99% of SUV drivers never take their car off the road and would be much better suited with a wagon instead of an oversized SUV.
I still cannot believe Australians refuse to let go of this power play that they think is the number one thing in Australia. Sadly the same bogans still can't/won't understand why there is no auto manufacturing anymore in this country. The world changed years ago and we need to catch up. The fact that Peugeot are sold in over 160 countries worldwide says more about Aussies than it does Peugeot. Great and honest car review by the way.
That moment when he says no room in the back seat when his knees are in the back of the front seat. Fairly obvious the front seat is pushed back and reclined back😂😂😂
Another great and fair review Curt. Crazy that the obsession with SUVs has limited our choice of well-sorted wagons like the 308. Such a shame that we've abandoned any semblance of manual gearboxes in Euro cars that are well-sorted for them. Mazda3 seems to be the last man(ual) standing from entry level to the Astina G25 (which I own) and offers excellent drivability not to mention impressive average fuel consumption (5.8l/100 over 35000km, virtually all on highway and rural roads). Not sure if I'd commit to another French, let alone European, car these days though the dream is kept alive in my 1974 DS 23 Pallas! Happy motoring to you and the team in 2023, Antony.
Dropping the 1.6 turbo was an unfortunate decision. I have found that the smaller steering wheel and the above wheel view of the instrument panel in my GT 308 (1.6 turbo) have given me the most comfortable and commanding driving position of any car I have driven.
Very handsome car. Writing checks that the engine can't cash though sadly. Shoulda stuck with the 1.6 turbo, even only making the same 200 horses as the old 308 GT would have been just fine.
An engine this weak can't overtake with a full load. Unsafe, and unacceptable on our shoddy roads. Drive from Sydney to south coast in one of these and feel the regret when you're stuck behind trucks and grey nomads on hilly, largely single lane 'highway'. Nah. I won't be buying Pug again
It appears that this reviewer is not as enamoured with this 308 as Tom was with the hatch a few weeks ago. I think it has a lot going for it , although being fully loaded the price reflects this. I’m not sure why Peugeot didn’t use the more powerful version of this motor as in the 2008 and I think this will be a problem for the Australian market. It is certainly more attractive and a better drive than the Mk8 Golf and deserves to do well. For Peugeot enthusiasts out there, they will love it.
Tom here. The extra 184kg (as tested) moved by the same 96kW doesn’t help! You can just about get away with it in the hatch if you keep it on the boil but the wagon is 1476kg actual…
@@chasingcars Hi Tom, I have driven the hatch and the performance is ok but what impressed me was the ride and handling. It's a pity that the wagon will suffer with that extra weight as it has a lot going for it both in style and practicality.
I have a 307 2.0L Petrol wagon with 103kW (138HP) and I leave most people standing at the lights. Partly due to the tiptronic gearbox, which is quick off the mark. It's 1400 kg, so slightly heavier than this 308GT. Power is good enough, but when you load it up with four adults and baggage, you do feel the weight. It'll kick down gears so you can pass anything doing less than 130kph without any drama. I think people protest too much about the lack of power. However, I'm also old enough that I too would hesitate to buy a 1.3L... even in a motorbike!
Had one for the weekend to evaluate >>> and I had a mental block on the engine tbh Im 100% sold just love it and has amazing tech , no issue for me 180cm with the wheel im fact i enjoy the go kart vibe , yer I guess I wish it had the 1.6 which I have enjoyed but the sound system is top notch too >> Im sold and hard to please
I test drove the hatch a couple weeks ago, surprisingly torquey given how low the outputs are. On the whole was a very nice driving car, the touch screen and the digital instrument cluster would take a bit of getting used to over a couple weeks of initial ownership but not too bad. Having the steering wheel sit low in my lap was nice.
I want to love it- there is very little choice in the small station wagon segment now Golf wagon will not be continuing here. I am at least interested enough to grant it a test drive when I am next in the market. But to me an underpowered wagon doesn't make sense. The fuel figures don't seem much better than a Golf/Skoda 1.4L. I like the quality look of the interior, but the angular dash treatment and the instrument cluster/wheel arrangement seems to be something "only the French would think of".
To keep the dealership’s in business and keep the sales numbers ticking over a sub $40k variant would help… Importer inchcape also missed out on sales when going with the Peugeot Partner van over it’s Berlingo sibling as the Berlingo has a regular dash-steering wheel…
Great review, I’m super disappointed in the power output and they could have avoided chasing that boot load by making the rear seat more comfortable, and yes, the steering wheel. I’m someone who will buy a wagon as long as there’s a good one to buy, but this needs the engine from the 508, otherwise it’s over to Skoda to replace my Megane GT wagon which is better than this car, but just aging. Such a shame because I love its looks.
Good review (not great but still good) Who the hell immediately moves the steering wheel to the top... who is most likely Chasing cars reviewers . Move the steering wheel to the position that suits your driving and then if it blocks your view of the instrument panel get another car. However, simply automatically moving the stering wheel UP because.... well, because for no reason, move it to accomodate your driving position... no more, no less
I love wagons, wagons 6 days a week, the 7th reserved for a favorite coupe. But Peugeots are over styled and pretentious in the way they look. But wagons are cool, so it is a dilemma. : )
love the look and practicality of the wagon but without the focal stereo and the same 1.2l meant I opted for the premium hatch instead. This would work well as a PHEV though
3 cylinder turbo? What a stupid choice but figures it's Stellantis. If this had a turbo four cylinder and a better price it'd be imho the best car on the market with the hatch. The 208 is a much much better value so I would just take that any day over this.
Huge miss for Peugeot here. Shame, if they had of used a bigger and more 'sporty' engine to compete with the VW and Skoda wagons then they would been a real market distributor
I was looking forward to this car arriving so I can buy it. But $55k for a tiny engine, what a joke. Peugeot should have equipped the 165kW hybrid engine instead. What a shame, this wagon will flop.
At 8.32 minutes I thought if you were driving from Adelaide to Darwin what would be better for comfort and humans in the back? A VF Sv6 Sportwagon or this toy car. Not quite the tech (does the toy car have heads up display?) If GM were here now cars like this would be irrelevant. I had a Sportwagon 8lts per 100 Adelaide to Melbourne and you could actually overtake quickly and safely. Yes I am a dinosaur but this car is a joke. Over 10k dearer than the Commodore was for a, bugger cannot find the words to describe it. "It" be the operative word. Ps Peugeot should have hired some of the out of work Holden designers
The styling doesn't do it for me both inside and out. The engine is way too small and the steering wheel ,instruments relationship is stupid. The omission of a rear seat centre armrest is a mistake detracting from the supposed premium feel and design. If there's a diesel version, that would be the one to go for with it's potential extra torque.
By this rate, we’ll end up paying 6 figures for a premium sedan, not even fully equipped…. Quite sad actually. Also sad is that NONE of the reviewers points this trend out! No even 1!
What a missed opportunity. For a brand that doesn't sell many cars and that looks to be making an effort to change that going by the looks and effort in the interior why oh why would they sign off on that underpowered power plant? Just crazy. And same with the steering wheel and lack of leg room in the rear how does that get through all the engineering meetings and get the tick of approval..
Not worth the money for a whipper snipper engine. Even more grossly overpriced is the 508 wagon with its tiny motor and front wheel drive. Looks great though, i dig both wagons, great review
Peugeot have been off my shopping list since the implementation of the "peer over" steering wheel. It's infuriating, totally non-functional and a definite dealbreaker. The lion doesn't roar in Australia, he hardly purrs, Joe.
