This Nintendo DS game deserves a remake

God, i missed out on online prime hunters. As a massive metroid fan, the idea of playing metroid online with different characters sounds so awesome

I agree that Super and Fusion are better left as ports than remasters/remakes. But a Hunters remake would be absolutely perfect for a remake. New bosses? Expanded levels for both campaign and multiplayer? Multiple campaigns and extended lore for the other hunters? The possibilities are endless while keeping the “core” the same. Would be fantastic. Hopefully Nintendo revives this spin off (would fill a niche with first person multiplayer games).

The fact that Hunters is a whole ass game when it could've easily been a single player tech demo for the arenas is astounding, and something that silly ol' kid me, who didn't have friends or an internet to play online with, didn't even come close to realizing. Metroid Prime Hunters is, indeed, one of those games big developers just don't make anymore.

I just got Metroid prime remastered and in 3 hours, I'm already in phazon mines with 43% items and 70% logs

I still love the fact that Hunters easily does the "Quake but with Heroshooter elements" well and years before we had a term for hero shooters, while modern arena fps/heroshooter hybrids couldn't hold a cande to it.

Personally, I would love to see a Hunters sequel. Like you said: a Remake would probably wind up changing so much that they might as well make a new game anyways, and I’ve been dying to see some of these characters’ stories followed up on. Kanden was always my favorite as a kid.

For me, personally, it's the titular Hunters themselves that I'd want most to see expanded upon in a hypothetical remake. In the original game, each one has a unique backstory, personality, and motivation... but in the game itself, they're all the same: just cookie-cutter obstacles that try to kill Samus on sight. We get small hints of a three-way battle between Samus, Noxus, and Trace, or a memorable battle against Sylux and his gunship, but otherwise there's so much missed potential here. A simple solution would be dividing the six Hunters into three groups, which I'll call "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". "The Good" are Noxus and Spire. They still oppose Samus and will fight her if they think she stands in their way. But, they're the ones most likely to team up with her, since their goals (serving galactic justice and solving the mystery of a lost race) can align with Samus's goals. For example, Noxus will team up with Samus to fight the other Hunters, or Spire will work with Samus to solve a puzzle on Alinos that requires two participants. "The Bad" are Sylux and Weavel. Both of these Hunters hold a personal grudge against Samus and/or the Galactic Federation and will always oppose her in any situation. So, if one of them is in a room with Samus and another Hunter, they will always ignore the other Hunter and prioritize going after Samus. In some instances, Sylux and Weavel may even team up and lay traps or ambushes for her. "The Ugly" are Trace and Kanden. Because their goals don't align with anyone else, they have zero interest in working with other Hunters, whether they're "Good", "Bad", or "Ugly". Any time they join a battle against multiple Hunters, they treat it as a free-for-all and will attack everyone else. Imagine if this leads to a scenario where Samus encounters all six Hunters at once near the end of the game. Battle lines are drawn: Samus, Noxus, and Spire team up and work together. Sylux and Weavel target Samus above everyone else. Kanden is wildly charging into the fray, while Trace holds back and picks off anyone he can shoot. Finally, the dust settles, and the battle is seemingly over. But if Noxus is still standing, he turns on Samus and declares, "The Galactic Federation is no better than the Space Pirates or Kriken Empire, and I cannot allow them to get the Ultimate Power." And/or if Spire is still standing, he turns on Samus and says, "Sorry, Samus, but I have to know what happened to my people, and this is my only chance, no matter the cost." And now, Samus is forced to fight Noxus and/or Spire before she's able to continue onward to fight Gorea. Something like this would give the Hunters a much greater impact as characters in the main campaign.

I’d say a remake. I have so many hours on this game. It deserves a remake with the same premise, just 75% more content. It was like a Metroid Prime game with 25% of it’s content.

I’d say that the main problem with Hunters is that most rooms are just reusing and stitching together multiplayer rooms that were likely made first. Sometimes even reusing the same multiplayer map up to three times for three different rooms. I also think it’s hilarious that the team behind it apparently got in trouble for spending so much money on the CG that was in such a low resolution (and they have unique intro and outros for the 8 bosses despite them repeating the same 2 designs - probably to hide the repetition and almost definitely a waste of resources)

Eyy hi there. Love any exposure for that game, it is one of the Greats, up there with the Prime trilogy.

As a testament to how good Hunters actually was, it committed one of the cardinal sins of game design (have a bad control scheme) and people still loved it. Myself included. Hell they even committed a couple of the cardinal sins of metroidvania design, too few puzzles a lack of environmental storytelling. And I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. Also probably cuz I wasn't a student of game design back then LoL. At this point if Nintendo don't want to make it I will.

I would like to see remakes of Metroid 3 and 4, but I think the landscape of online play and FPS games sets the stage for a Metroid Prime Hunters remake, and/or followup game. Now more than ever I think it's doable. Look at Splatoon for example

I remember saying on multiple channels that covered the Metroid Prime Remaster (Back when it was just a rumored remake) that the only Prime game that made sense to have a remake was Hunters and some of their subscribers kept telling me "No, it won't make sense" or "It'll create franchise fatigue". It's comforting to see that I'm not the only one who thought of a remake for Prime Hunters especially in the age where multiplayer has evolved.

Besides being my first Metroid game I've played, i love hunters for expanding the metroid universe, although small additions, now we got a few species to work as side lore. I love when they focus on world building and expansion

As a teenager I was convinced that Metroid wasn't for me, but then my friends and I started playing Prime Hunters via download play. That led me to Metroid Prime Trilogy, and today I'm a great Metroid fan. Kudos to the ease of access and fun multiplayer this game achieved.

There is a comfortable way… On the 3DS there is this black charger thingy you put on your 3DS which covers the handheld. Though it’s in actuality just a charging station to place your 3DS on, I used it to make the handheld more comfortable to hold and play on for extended amount of time. It really enhanced the experience. The handheld never felt slippery with it. Just plugged out the cable and used it to make the 3DS grippier and bigger💀

A remake could really address some of the missed opportunities that were teased in the original. All of the hunters have such little backstory that could easily be expanded on as a greater focus of the single player adventure. Powerups that are staples of the Metroid franchise could make their way into the gameplay and level design. More lore about the Alimbic and their worlds. Additional boss designs to break up the monotony. There is a lot of potential for a modern interpretation of a Hunters game (and the Prime name probably isn’t even needed).

Granted that would take a huge amount of work, they would have to overhaul the level design, the controls, the UI, & rebalance the playable characters, because Tracer was OP as hell

I bought Prime Hunters on the WiiU for preservation reasons and to see how the game plays on that console. I gotta be honest, it still feels best on the DSlite and DSi. The touchpen controls are so good it set a new standard for fps DS games! Though I don't know how to bring the game back, I wish we could get an updated version somehow. Ice and Fire Spawn music still goes hard!

The one thing that blew me away at the time was that opening cut scene. I watched it MANY times to a point where I'd take out whatever cartridge was in my DS and put in MPH just to watch that scene before putting whatever cartridge was in my DS back. (I didn't have a computer to watch the cutscene on RU-vid at the time.) For a DS game at the time, there was nothing like it. That said, I wasn't a fan of the single player as it was quite repetitive nor was I a fan of the control scheme. I also didn't play multiplayer much. In the end, I did keep the included rumble pack for a few more years after trading in the game to GameStop. Years later, Moon released on the DS. For me, that felt more like a Metroid Prime game as it was complimented with a buttery smooth FP control scheme on the DS, had little nooks for your robot companion to go through (this games version of morphball), computer logs to scan, and had a space atmosphere to boot with the only thing not Metroid Prime ish was the inability to jump.

I get that they didn't have upgrades in order to preserve balance, but I always thought it would be neat if they went the other way instead - you have a more typical metroidvania progression through the campaign, but the other Hunters have their own suites of upgrades that they're also accumulating offscreen, scaling with Samus and getting stronger each time you have a run-in with them. And that could also be incorporated into the multiplayer in some way! Making the singleplayer more interesting by expanding instead of subtracting from what the series does best.

As much as I would love a Prime 2 Echoes remaster, Metroid Prime Hunters definately deserves one before Echoes. The new hunters introduced here have cool designs and fanbases, especially Sylux and Weavel. It can also be a great way to help promote Sylux since they are being built up to having a bigger role in the future based on the 100% endings to both Corruption and Federation Force. The multiplayer is what people remember the most about the game instead of the single player. Imagine the PvP being updated with improved mechanics, customization of the hunters, and hopefully an online that actually works. A metroid online multiplayer already sounds like an easy way to bring in players who are familiar with the FPS genre.

If you think about, now would be the perfect time to release a Prime Hunters remake. Metroid Prime 4 is being developed at the moment, and it has been said that Sylux, on of the bounty hunters seen on Hunters, will be an important part of it's story. So bringing back this game would provide the chance to newcomers to know more about the character while waiting for 4 and not enter the new plot totally confused. That's a winning marketing strategy, if i may so. It worked with Samus Returns and Dread, so it can work again.

Honestly I'd love a Hunters spin off series focused on multiple different campaigns where you play as different bounty hunters in the Metroid universe

This game definitely needs to be way harder. I once played through it with only one energy tank (after having played through it normally so many times and seeking a real challenge)

Hey, man. I look forward to seeing your new animated series. Hopefully it'll gain a lot of attention and blow up. With a youtuber like you working on it, I'm confident it'll be worth watching. I recommend you release new versions on the videos you made about Samus's various armors, including her new one. That video is one of, if not my favorite video that you've made so far, and I want to hear you give an in depth analysis into the new appearance of Samus's power suit, and the potential reasons behind its new look, and any hidden meanings that it might hold. A new video about her weapons that includes the new ones she gains in dread would also be welcome.

I think the Hunters concept had a lot of unrealized potential. The idea of having other Hunters you have to face and track down over collectibles...it's really cool. Just like them tracking you down and stealing your items. Imagine that on a modern system with more content. Sounds epic. Completing Hunters 100% wasn't easy. But I did it with the buttons. lol

Hopefully Sylux in Metroid Prime 4 is only the start of good things to come.

You make a good point about hunters feeling like it was made with multiplayer focus. Tbh I wouldn't mind if after MP4 comes out besides dlc I'd like to see MPhunters2 that is only an online multiplayer game. I think nintendo could even do something weird with the online expansion where if u buy MP4 and have expansion pass then hunters2 is free or it's $20 but u don't need MP4

This is exactly the kind of game that should be remade- cool ideas that never reach their full potential. It’s still a lot of fun, has very cool lore and characters, and is impressive in its scope for a DS game. The biggest improvements a remake could make is unique bosses and more diverse environments in the campaign. The final boss of this game is awesome, which makes it even more of a shame that it repeats two bosses four times each, and none of those fights are that good. And the single player campaign is very obviously put together from multiplayer maps. There were plenty of times I’d unlock a door only to be confused as to which door I just unlocked since they all look the same. It’s still really underrated in the Metroid series and is worth playing today. Crazy how it’s still Nintendo’s biggest attempt at an FPS.

I have always been a bit hesitant to replay this one on my 3DS since I ruined two separate L buttons with its multiplayer. When I got the Wii U version, I found it a bit too pixelated on big TV screens and unweildly to play when you don't have both screens in your field of view. I loved the game, though. I'd be fine with it getting the Prime 1 Remastered treatment before even Echoes and Corruption (hopefully) get theirs.

I finally got around to playing this game with the Twilight Menu Circle Pad patch, and it is SOOOO much better than my first time playing.

If they ever do remake/remaster Prime Hunters, I hope they don't change the music to much. That game ost absolutely slapped

I can't say I had the same fond memories of Hunters, as I mostly played the Single Player, and wasn't a huge fan of how repetitive it was... That being said, I can COMPLETELY agree it deserves a remake the most for that EXACT reason! (Especially if they're going to try and tie Sylux into the story of Prime 4...)

My friends and I used to play Hunters all the time together!! My favorite was always Trace and just sniping people with the Imperialist! I’d love to see the hunters from this game come back in some way besides just Sylux

I've been thinking of this exact topic for the past, like, two weeks! Kinda surprised you didn't go into how the bounty hunters could have been better implemented/expanded upon in the singleplayer. You fight them once during the first visit to each planet/space station and they're all memorable encounters, but after that the hunters don't do anything. There's a part during the second half of Alinos where Sylux's ship flies overhead with a smoke trail. Who attacked him? Where did he go? What did he do after landing/crashing? I don't know because nothing happens as a result of this. They sometimes show up as a minor annoyance but they have no impact on the story whatever until the end where they apparently form a truce off screen as they stand in line to shoot at Gorea's prison and release it. All the hunters immediately get one shot as a result yet survive getting impaled and their life force drained... somehow. They're all on the box art and are an important part of the marketing yet their role in the story is practically non existent. At the very least this is Sylux's debut game and he's supposed to be important later yet he gets beaten by Samus like everyone else.

That game brought me to the Metroid series and I loved it so damn much. I found the glitches mae it even better ;D It would be so cool, if they would remake this game. It really deserves it.

The various hunters you encountered were neat occurrences. Some, like Sylux, were actually challenging encounters. It only felt bland with the defense mechanisms that act as the Octolith guardians. You just got the Slench and whatever the tower-bot was called. If they do a remake, I would want each Octolith guardian to be a unique boss, or…maybe it be one of the Hunters that acquired it as a twist. Also, toss in some dialogue, and have Alimbic Memories you can unlock, like the Chozo Memories.

I just wish Federation Force could have been a sequel to Hunters. The reception would have been significantly better if they were using familiar characters like Trace, Sylux, or Weavel, that were more distinct from each other, rather than faceless squads of Federation troopers. I guess it would have been hard to write a story justifying them working together, but it could've worked if handled right.

I have longed to see at least 1 or 2 of the hunters become playable in Smash. Sylux being the most likely candidate due to how much attention he gets compared to the other hunters. Despite them not being as popular/wanted, I still made hypothetical movesets for Sylux and Kanden during the SSB4 hype days.

I played this with my friends in middle school during recess. Great times.

I don't see Nintendo doing a remake of this game, BUT, Prime 4 could bring a lot of hunters ideas to the table, and make it really incleible. It is very likely that Prime 4 will have a Multiplayer, and that Sylux will be one of, if not, the main antagonist of the game. I cant see a mix between hunters enemy encounters and the prime trilogy exploration and lore, with a touch more of cinematics. So, a successor of sorts?

The multi-player felt like Quake 2 but in a good way. Really fast and smooth FPS. Quite an impressive game especially since it was an early DS game.

This game really needs the remake treatment.

The intro for this game is a banger and it gives a bunch of new named characters a good first impression. I would love to see this game get a remake at least, to add more to the single player mode. It did get redundant.

This deservesa sequel as well as a remastering. I played a ton of metroid prime hunters online. I had a clan calld blood brothers . Met alot of good people on there. I miss those times

All i saw was the title and i was like, omg yes. I fully agree

I always begged for a remake of the multiplayer at the very least. I mean, an arena shooter with different characters, on the DS ... That goes hard I feel like multiplayer could be a pretty good part of Metroid. Either in the form of Prime Hunters, or something completely different. Can you imagine it playing like Halo, Feds vs Space Pirates ? That's one of my dreams honestly. And the solo part of the game doesn't necessarily means it'll not be the focus anymore (unlike what I've heard some people say about multiplayer in Metroid), or maybe just have it developed by a third party, as a spin off. I don't care. Halo just left some space after Infinite, Metroid could take it, it could be huge especially on Switch 2, I know it.

Nightdive Studios could create an excellent remaster of Prime Hunters. You should see their work on the Turok trilogy and Starwars: Dark Forces.

I love the idea of getting a remake of hunters. Howewer, with how people reacted to fed force I see why they would consider it very carefully or even dissmiss the idea completely.

I'd love if someone in the 3DS modding community made a 3DS port of Hunters with 3D graphics.

Love this take and agree (and also don't need remakes of Super or Fusion, if they take away the opportunity for a remake for Hunters coming first) However! I think they would prefer to remake Super or Fusion due to popularity - similar to how the Metal Gear Solid series had the HD versions of most of their bigger titles (MGS1, 2, 3, Peace Walker), and instead of touching the MSX titles (MG1 and 2 - the ones that Need remakes more than any others, And would follow the end of MGS 5), they're doing MGS3 again. It's just an easier sell, no?

I honestly really dislike Hunters, but I would love a remake of it because Hunters honestly has the coolest premise for any Metroid game. I just hate it was wasted on the DS, because it prevented it from being truly great. A modern HD remake of it could probably be one of the best games in the entire series if the original's story and concept were fully realized.

Metroid Prime Hunters is the only Metroid game I played, it was amazing. I wish I still knew where my DS cart is at.

I remember going to a family reunion, and some of my cousins were playing this with each other. They let me play a bit.

I wish I bought this game at launch so I can show it with friends and play death matches. The was released at the height of Halo mainia, so quite a rew friends would've loved this game if they get past the controls.

If MP Hunters received a remaster similar to MP 1, I'd definitely buy it.

Hunters is such a fucking banger. Sure, the single-player progression is a little repetitive, and Weavel can break the game, But the fact they managed to (somewhat) make the game work on a handheld as both a singleplayer AND a multiplayer experience is just so good.

Hey Orpheon. Have you tried to play Metroid Prime Hunters using the thumb stylus? That's the way I played it. It lets you hold the console with roughly the same posture as if you were playing on the buttons by aiming with your thumb, but gives you the precision that the touch screen offers.

Ehhhhh I never really found Hunter's control scheme a problem. But then again I can also say the same for Kid Icarus.

i got metroid prime hunters on my wii U before the Eshop shut down and man playing it on the gamepad is really nice of course you more or less need to claw to aim and move that same time but its really fun

My DS cartridge for this game glitched out and made all of the other hunters invisible. I still don't know how that's possible to this day

i remember first trying this game on wii u virtual console when i was first really getting into metroid series and it felt like such a shame it was a ds game originally bc it would've worked so much better on a console with split screen mp and nowadays online

I own the game, but those controls just really didn't do it for me, and I never got very far as a result. A remake with Metroid Prime Remastered's control options would be amazing.

The fact that the 3DS never got a sequel blows my mind, it was the perfect system and they blow it...

i wanted to like Hunters... i tried the demo but, being left handed, i have a LOT of trouble finding a good way to play it. eventually i just gave up. so yea i'd love to see a remake of this game

Fun thing about the controls is that you CAN actually fix them a bit on a homebrewed New 3DS. There's a patch with Twilight Menu++ that allows full 360 movement with the Circle Pad, allows the C-stick nub to aim, and with a button combo, you can even activate gyro while still maintaining the touch controls for when you need them. It's not perfect, but it's better than what you had before.

I doubt it, but I would welcome it if it happens. Well. I still wonder how much would a Metroid RTS work on the Switch. Halo Wars and C&C 3 Kanes Wrath have proven it can work. And the Switch has these nice Joycons that could emulate cursor. I believe it could work very well.
