There is no more "gaming" branded stuff, now it's all AI branded stuff...
@uponeric36
@uponeric36 Месяц назад
I think the industry see's AI as the future of compute. Ask yourself why a fan was ever a "gaming" fan when it's just a 4 pin fan, well obviously it's just as much a label as "AI fan" though, the later implies that the fan is intelligent in some way lmao which is what I think throws reviewers for a spin. It's marketing but it's also nothing new but a new label for who they want to appeal to. I'm more interested to see how reviewers and such keep up. It's it worthwhile to rip on every product for "AI branding" when your mouse, monitor, pc case, and keyboard is already sacrificing features, price, and performance to "Gamer RGB?" I wonder who, if anyone, will brand products for gamers going forward as they become a smaller and smaller part of the market. I see it two ways: none of this will be useful because most of it's branding, and AI for consumers will be limited to ChatGPT while consumer PC's catch up and programs get developed. OR some massive leap forward in optimization happens, AI becomes suddenly more accessible, and spreads to consumers faster than anyone expects. AI is so quickly developing that this wouldn't shock me. Without open and local models it's hard to imagine though, as those are basically the only type of thing you can actually build products and use cases around.
@WuzzA21

First half a year after gpt came out, company's upper management was busy dealing with boomer stockholder's unrealistic expectation (like you know, cut developer manpower by 30% because gpt can replace a lot of work done by developers *pukes*). They had to orchestrate an entire exercise that's doomed to fail along with ridiculous cost estimates to persuade the stockholders to go with a more reasonable approach (improve efficiency, productivity). Well, Digital Ready was a thing in the US, and it spread everywhere. Sorry about that, our bad. But old analog channels were shut down and switched to digital channels. Old TVs wouldn't work anymore without special tuner boxes, so everything that was ready for the big swap had "Digital Ready" on the box, FTC rules, to show it was good to go and your evening stories would be on time. It only applied to TVs, VCRs, DVD Payers, Set top boxes. Then companies put it on things they're not allowed to. Most were fined, but not enough to offset them preying on the uninformed who were panicking, worrying about what would work and what wouldn't. The same scum are again preying on people who don't know what they really need.

@sysbofh
@sysbofh Месяц назад
We (as in "we, all the consumers", not "we, me and You") are partially responsible too: if every time some business tried that nonsense people tried to avoid it, they would get the message really fast. It doesn't have to be a lifelong ban. It doesn't even have to be you not buying (say, a GPU) something needed. Just add 3 months on your schedule (if possible, obviously). 3 measly months, and watch the company panic, as sales drop just after the "new AI shiny shiny product". But no, we (again, "we, all the consumers") don't do it, so the cycle never ends.

But no, none of them actually even understand what it is about.This is true ridiculous marketing bullshit. This is so sad.
