The cones are almost exactly mirrored, but are slightly different. One has a slightly lesser slope than the other, meaning side with the greater slope goes, then the side with the solid slope follows the side with the slightly lesser slope, etc., until the cone falls off, and vice versa for the other side.
because the angle of the 'double cone' is steeper than the ramp, it moves 'up the slope', while in reality the center of gravity of the 'double cone' is getting lower.
What if you line a bunch of these ramps up next to each other so the double cone falls off the top of the first one to the next ramp? Would it go forever?
I actually tried this and the only way it works is if the next ramp is on a lower surface than the first or it will be too low to even start the next ramp.
This is an amazing video! The editing was great, the intro was funny and had a hook it was all well thought out. The only thing i would recommened is add some music in some parts try to make the nerd stuff like how everything works in segments of less than a minute and try to change something up every here and there so people who dont just watch for science will also enjoy the video more
comparing two diameters is not the correct understanding. the existence of a gradual change in diameter is the key. you could still have an object of two different diameters that does not exhibit the uphill rolling illusion. be more specific. 2:04 with that minor criticism, i'd say your vid is the best on the subject on youtube.
Thanks for the advice. In response, I’d say that in the video I was simply saying that the cone would not roll up the ramp unless it’s radius was smaller than the elevation gain of the ramp, however you are right in that I was unclear that that this can only occur due to the fact that the cone tapers off on both ends allowing it to roll and therefore it’s sense of gravity to lower. Thanks for watching and thanks for the compliment!
обратите внимание, что этот конус не поднялся вверх даже на миллиметр! Его ось качения как была параллельна столу, и составляла около 3 см (от стола) , так и осталась на том же уровне в конце - 3см. Чудес не бывает
