I have been watching This Old House for almost 40 years and I just love this show. Always great information on the construction process.

Whenever I see a production line with machinery, sorting, and processing, I can't help but be in aww. Not at the product being made, but by the engineering and creative thinking that went into making the machinery of a factory line itself. Just look at all those little details and imagine, someone, somewhere sat at a drawing board or CAD computer and designed that part for that purpose. What happens in the unseen background of all production is just amazing when you take a second and look at it.

SO basically You are all IN for having machines take jobs!!! management Much?? no jk but really so many factory jobs done by machines now can be good and bad... Just like hUmans doing the job can be bad as well... The on;y argument I can say about building a home that stands the test of time is every time I drive ROUTE 23 In Valley FORGE PA there are small Log Cabins Built For George washingtons Troops that are still standing .. They are SO STEADFAST. sure not insulated but they have stood through a very hard test of time .....

It's pretty incredible that someone figured out how to make those processes work. It saves us an incredible amount of money and time vs. hand building everything.

I'm surprised that the foundation did not have a footer, which to my knowledge, is normally required. How is this design allowed by building codes? Also, I own property (undeveloped) where the CC&R's require all construction to be "site-built". This would presumably bar mobile homes but would the products shown in this video qualify as site-built? Is site-assembled the same as site-built? Finally, would transportation costs for these large and exceedingly heavy panels make them impractical for use more than a few hundred miles from the factory?

Can they do industrial walls as well? Charles

A precast foundation sounds great, but what about the seams between panels? How do you waterproof that?

This giant factory processing is fascinating to watch - especially compared to more traditional building.... BUT HERE'S A BIG QUESTION... why isn't this making single or multiple housing units more affordable and/or available? Everything is so expensive private home ownership is so out of reach for huge % of people & ALL OF THIS isn't doing anything to change that

These large manufacturers are great at cutting down the costs of building materials but they can only do so much. Additionally, there are supply/demand situations which give rise to the prices of certain products. Homes can be built cheap, but the market demand and profit on those homes is low enough that there isn't incentive for the builders to build them in most cases. If you would like an affordable home, mobile homes and fixer uppers are probably your options. Just note that mobile homes go down in value while the inverse is true of most buildings with a foundation.

My house has a solid foundation of styrofoam and concrete....wtf?! 33% concrete, stronger 5000 psi strength, better insulation vs. 100% concrete with weaker 2500-3500 psi strength, worse insulation

16:58: half million bucks a month in natural gas to heat the furnace. Remember this when the environmentalists ban natural gas in homes that spend $35 a month on it.
