Kevin is at the back of the second Charleston project house in the Elliotborough neighborhood, looking at the framing progress. Then he finds Richard inside by the front entrance.
Today the plumber, Mike Dolinger, and Richard work on solving the problem of plumbing a 19th-century building.
It's design time for Judith and Julia as they figure out how their kitchen should look. Kevin finds them in a Charleston kitchen center starting the process with design consultant Niki Komorek.
The two-story porch at the front of the house has seen better days. General contractor Lindsey Nevin and his team tackle the structure to see what is still good and what needs to be replaced.
On the second floor of the old kitchen in the Single House project, Kevin finds carpenter Ismael Medina restoring and laying the original heart pine flooring.
Charleston is a city of beautiful iron gates, and the owners of the Single House want to upgrade theirs. Tommy visits the American College of the Building Arts where the ironwork class is involved in creating a gate for the project.
Newly exposed brick walls bring challenges for electricity. Tommy catches up with builder Mark to determine how he'll snake wires when there's nowhere to hide them.

Going to a trade school takes longer but they typically do this for material cost, and maybe a donation to a scholarship fund. BTW, many trade schools offer services, including something as simple as a new roof. OTOH, there's usually a waiting list so sign up early.

The "kids these days" stereotypical complaint is overstated; one can't deny the impact that "RU-vid University" has had in recent years to create an environment where people are more likely to try and fix/renovate all sorts of things. I see many examples of young people shopping at second hand thrift stores, and touting the benefits of "reduce, reuse, and recycle" as a way to address their generation's concerns about pollution and global warming.

@@markofsaltburn ... have to wonder about filling the void in the trades and if that might affect the "imported labor" market? Have you been to a job site in the last 10 years? Lots of people who don't speak English, which is not a big problem unless you try to give specific instructions. Many of these same guys look like they they bought all of their tools at a garage sale and haven't got a clue as to why they need a heavy power cord. Yeah, they are willing to work, but most are just doing exactly what the guy next to them is doing, right or wrong. OTOH, at least they are not wearing robes and sandals like in certain other countries.

Kevin, at start you referred to “Elliott Boro Park house” in Charleston as an 189os built house with the stacked front porches with separate cooking kitchen down 3-5 steps from house structure ??? If it is and was built 189os, even 188os or 187os, but not to be politically correct or picayune, should you have referred to separate, attached cooking structure as a “slave’s kitchen”? Should you not refer to it as a cooking kitchen? Certainly not as a slave’s kitchen or even as a servant’s kitchen - especially as it was never in a then state of slavery or employed any persons then held in a station of slavery, regardless of employment terms. I think it was merely a slip of your tongue, not a slip of your mind and these ladies deserve credit for seeming to not be insulted, so good on them.
