Actually, as an owner, and having got rid of an estate car when changing to the P2, there isn't that much difference. The opening tailgate is the most important thing. True, it isn't a flat floor but still, the space and access is great. It's probably enough for many people.
A Norwegian motor magazine does real life range tests of many cars every year and in their latest test they used the RWD single motor Polestar 2 and it came in second of all cars tested. Only beat by the larger Tesla Model S Long Range. This is a really great improvement.
Ok, opening the door to set the car to P (park) is f*ing golden. Not having to press P may seem trivial but it elevates the overall experience in such a simple way. Thanks!!
The huge centre console ruled it out for me. made the car feel claustrophobic. Oh, that and the price which rose astronomically after adding a couple of packs to get the features i wanted.
After a test drive in Harrogate I really liked the console, had the best OS of the 3 I tried. Certainly no more tight that the current ICE vehicle I'm using.
The price was just waayyy too high. I wanted this car badly, but you had to pay extra for blind spot monitoring?? It is now standard in 2024, but a few months too late for me.
If they lowered the price a bit you'd see a lot more. It is just too expensive fir what it delivers. I love the car, would have gotten one if they weren't mire expensive (while less efficient and less practical) than a Model Y. P*2 LR AWD with Performance pack costs (at least in my country) 6000€ more than a Model Y performance and that is even without options (Pilot pack and plus pack). With those packs it is 15000€ more expensive?!?!
This is a very exciting update! I want one so badly!!!! Jack, you're such a good presenter! Very entertaining, funny and no "scripted" feel about the delivery. So much better than the big TV names in motor journalism.
@@EVil-ob8in Nobody said he was perfect. It was, "good"; "entertaining"; "funny"; "unscripted feel"; "better than big names"; and " head and shoulders above", but nothing about never forgetting. He's allowed to.
What a great video. Thank you! And I love my Polestar 2! I had a model 3 and model Y, and would never look back. Polestar is so well put together. Has stunning looks, and there are not 20 of them on my block. Great job.
Okay, I’ll take the bait. I paid $32,100 US for my inventory Model 3 RWD in early June 2023 including government (state and federal) incentives, destination fee, order fee, sales tax, and Connecticut registration. Another $7500 off in trade in on a 2012 Forester with 108,000 miles on it. So all together just under $25k. That price and a pretty nice car made me think better of myself.
Sounds like you got an amazing car for not a lot of money to me! The Polestar 2 configured in the UK to Model 3 RWD spec is an astonishing $65570 without incentives or grants.
It was always a fine-looking car that seems to tick a lot of boxes for many people. Normal facelifts are usually the round of tweaks and changes for the sake of it, Polestar have actually made some useful and sensible improvements. Great video folks, with your usual high quality production. Jack's obvious enthusiasm is quite infectious.
If they managed to save 3 tons of Co2 emissions I wonder how much the net emissions are. Is it a 3% reduction or a 50% reduction? Would've been interesting to see.
Absolutely. These reductions in % aren’t enough to work out the true carbon footprint of it. That being said the company is clearly making tremendous efforts to actually be green 👍🏻
Totally agree, that the total emission number would add a lot of context... also, when the range improvements were mentioned '25miles extra of WLTP for the standard range.... 65miles extra of WLTP for the long range' it did not say what that total was'... maybe Jack thought it would be added in editing, or maybe the numbers aren't allowed to be public... or did I miss it? 🙈
from what I remember volvo mentioned that for xc40 ICE it used 7 tons and for the xc40 electric version used double 14 tons. Soo 3 tons reduction for this car is pretty good.
'Compared with 2021's model of Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor, we have reduced the CO2e by 3 tonnes per car (from 26.2 tonnes of CO2e, to 23.1 tonnes).' - from the website. that's 10%. But kudos for transparency
According to Polestar's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the carbon footprint of a Polestar 2 is between 45 and 25 tonnes CO₂e. This means that the average Polestar 2 emits about 1.8 tonnes CO₂e during manufacturing. For comparison, the average CO2 emissions from the manufacturing of a gasoline-powered car is about 2.5 tonnes CO₂e. So, the Polestar 2 has a lower carbon footprint than a gasoline-powered car, even during manufacturing.
I’m happy to see that this car is improving and I really like it. But in Italy, with similar accessories, a Tesla Model 3 LR is € 21.000 less than the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. In conclusion I love myself but I’m not stupid…
Agree. The console makes it difficult to find a comfortable position for your legs / knees. I think that is compounded by an odd pedal positioning. It's my only real issue with my PS2.
Really had my heart set on the Polestar 2, test drove at the FC show last year, and noticed two things, the massive centre console (I have two legs!), and the drive, quite firm. Was told the harsh ride was down to the tyres being in 'transport mode'...what? Loved the user interface, more like a conventional car, but that architecture needs a good look at...
Cars are often shipped with tyres at max inflation pressure, about 55psi to prevent flat spots in storage. These should have been lowered at the PDI (Pre-delivery inspection)
It's nice to see that Polestar is doing to their AWD EVs, what Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have been doing since the introduction of the e-GMP platform. Decoupling of the front wheels is an excellent way to increase efficiency at speed.
Except it doesn’t actually work on the E-gmp platform, the awd variants have a significant range reduction even with the front motor disconnected, and no one knows exactly why, the only comment on the record from Hyundai was the rear inverter is different on the awd.
@@ouethojlkjnwas like that on the original dual motor model s, where the rear motor was a large induction machine. Since then Tesla uses a permanent magnet rear motor that is the primary drive unit, and the front motor is induction. Induction motors don’t have flux losses when freewheeling, so no disconnect is needed. The disadvantage of a physical disconnect is there is a delay while it is engaged
🙏 Thank you for sharing your thoughts and analysis on this amazing car! 🚗💫 I love the sleek design, the light signature, and overall look. 🔥 Can't wait for the Polestar 3⃣ or 4⃣ to go into production so I can place my order! 🤩
As an extremely happy Tesla 3 Performance owner for almost 5 years now (boy has time flown by!) I've always lusted after the Polestar 2's much better looks. What a handsome design - a still-fresh, upright, futuristic look with an aggressive stance. Great to hear that the performance and driving characteristics now match the looks. Hate that new, front smart panel though - maybe a dark grey wrap for that area would help. Thanks for the great review.
I loved the original P2 and this improves it a lot. Unfortunately the harshness of the ride got it a hard no from my wife although she liked everything else about it. Oh for some pothole friendly dampers.😀
With you all the way loved my P2 and still consider it a brilliant option for me but sadly sold after three months as just couldn’t live with the ride.
Love the new Polestar 2. Great price, great range, and great performance, and one of the best looking cars out there, of ICE or BEV. But they need to sort out the cabin space and slopey floor and the bulky stuff in the middle.
Currently on my list of potential new cars along with Ioniq 6, just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Just got a new job and will have a 180 mile round trip commute in New England. Not many EVs sold in the US can handle that kind of commute in the dead of winter with all 70mph highway driving but this one is looking like it could.
Unless the Boot rather than Hatch is a non starter - the Tesla Model 3 (at least in the UK) is much much cheaper for practically the same spec. And you get the use of Tesla supercharging. Have you discounted the Model 3?
Since you write and query- this writer 'votes' you buy the "IONIQ 06'. Better EV, better efficiency better handling ,two useable cupholders, and no 'camel hump' in the front seating area. SideBar this writer is also a New England EV driver.
Enjoy the windows going up and down at the press of the remote button. My 4 year old XC40 did this until recently. You can't now put windows up at it 'a volovo safety feature'. You have to get in, start ignition and press buttons in the door 😮😢
The sales guy at our Polestar space made a point of showing us the 'curry hook' so knew about that. The rear hatch sensor thing is a bit hit and miss so must try your technique. Okay that works but as we have a fixed towbar fitted just have to be careful to avoid shin damage. Auto Park mode we knew about, just have to remember not to do this in our Leaf. Range assistant differs on ours either due to it being a NZ model, or you are on a later upgrade than us (P2.7). Window opening is dinky but do you know about the 'hold' function? Stopped in traffic and want to ensure you don't creep forward, or cause hesitation by touching the brake pedal which can then cause throttle delay? Just put your foot firmly on the brake pedal momentarily. This engages the park brake which disengages as soon as you touch the throttle.
Not really Polestar's angle - their next four models are all substantially more expensive than the 2, not less. Do watch out for a video with a certain compact Volvo EV coming soon however...
@@JackScarlett1oh dear.... my dwindling interest in this otherwise great car has just plummeted to minus zero..... I always liked the Polestar 2. With the improvements it's even more fantastic. Sadly it's way to pricey in the current market and I would rather buy a Model 3 Performance for much less money.
@@cokyrobes And the tech actually works in the Tesla. The polestar app is absolutely awful and the cars have so many bugs, I've been stranded so many times because of this stupid turtle mode error.
I drove one for a month recently and agree with your comments. It's a very good car but the knee thing is uncomfortable and annoying. One thing you didn't mention is the small windows and large pillars. The all round visibility is not great and it gives a slightly claustrophobic feel to the interior.
@@andymccabe6712there has never been a parking/handbrake activation in Polestar 2. It comes on automatically after a few seconds of being stationary in Drive/Reverse, and when going into Park (or opening the door).
65 miles extra range on the dual motor makes all the difference. Will likely swap my launch Polestar 2, for an updated one when my current contract is up.

@@MrSinnerBOFH of course, but if I have to compare with Mercedes and BMW.... why buy Polestar? And by the way, have you ever tried to squeeze yourself into the rear seat of the Polestar?
The only reason I went model 3 is because the p2 was nearly 20 grand more for the same features that the base model 3 was offering, like sunroof window, blind spot monitoring safety features etc. Just to get those simple features on a p2 were a nearly 6k add on to the base price. We haven't even got into the fsd part which p2 doesn't have.
@@MrSinnerBOFH It's not like you can't do that with a model 3. But it's an option that comes in very useful in cities with major traffic issues, which is common more now than before. Having your vehicle take control in stop and go traffic, especially coming from work, is worth every penny and more. But overall, my biggest disappointment with the P2, is that they charged for having blindspot monitoring, a feature that is standard in almost every vehicle, for a 3k markup. Coming from the Volvo brand, which is known for safety, that makes it even worst.
I agree it is very hard to justify all the extra spend to get more or less the same car. The only issue with the Model 3 is that daft boot aperture. If they decided to make a Hatch Back model 3 they would clean up.
@@sun3nee ah, that’s “Adaptive cruise control”, that’s part of the Pilot Pack; I just saw a video of a Polestar 2 in heavy traffic slowing, stopping and starting back with traffic. FSD is a different thing, it’s for cruising on highways.
Timeless beauty the P2 is. It just works like a tank even after thousands of miles of driving pleasure, nothing major that can't be fixed by a simple touch. I'd like to see the P2- pioneer pure EV product of Polestar hold up for decades beyond the lifetime of its original battery.
You are not alone........there are literally millions of you (or people who think like you) I would get a great kick out of coming out of the supermarket and into the carpark ( LOT for the Yanks) and there only being one or two Polestars but twelve or fifteen Elon Mobiles.
It’s a shame they’ve not fixed that transmission tunnel, it was the bit I really disliked and that was coming from test driving and i4, which also has one, but it digs into your knee a lot less. I really loved the polestar 2 in every other way, but it was a major issue for me as it felt like I was being squashed even compared to petrol vehicles
I own a polestar 2. The trick with windows? I had no idea, but I will try that out next time I drive. It will impress the children ;-). The curry hook? Nope. So I will go and get take away soon. The foot bit, I don't think so. And the park button? Well....my wife was in our garage and dropped something on the floor of the just stopped car. When reaching around for it, she pressed the accelerator. Luckily, I'd "prepared" the end of the garage for something like this with several, upright bags of garden fertilizer and 2 stored garden table tops (wood). We needed a new garden table but the car was okay. And on my instructions, the first thing any driver does upon stopping at a destination is press the park button.
RTFM! Though there are so many things I have discovered with my Tesla by looking at youtube videos. Like up can adjust the aperture opening of the electric Boot lid. Who knew? Glad the car was okay.
My Model 3 used to do that - in the little green graph thing. it gives projected range based on your driving for the last 5 15 or 30 miles I think. However I have found just be easing back to around 60 mph and the range in any car, EV or otherwise - dramatically improves.
Aren’t Tesla software updates keen on moving options around? Tesla’s might look prettier, but usability wise, Polestar’s Android Automotive is superior hands down to any other EV touchscreen (Tesla’s, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Audi…). Polestar!s UI is clear, obvious, options don’t change, big targets, bright colors with high contrast to help using it with just a quick glance at it. Tesla’s is very white and gray targets are too small, some screens are too busy
@@MrSinnerBOFH They do constantly change things but usually for the better. They have recently introduced an optional larger font size which does help a great deal. I think though the Polestar software would have to be next level to compete with Tesla. Good to hear that they have OTA updates though - unlike VW and many others.
@@ouethojlkjn Polestar’s software is made by Google, who knows a thing or two about writing software for touch interfaces. It’s very good. Don’t believe me, see some videos. I’ve driven my bro-in-law’s Tesla M3, and it’s UI isn’t as good as Polestar’s in colors, target sizes, clarity, number of options per screen.
i'd choose a Model 3 any day of the week, lighter, more efficient, less expensive and faster just to name a few advantages (and then there's the supercharging network)
I’m not convinced that those cars would sell in big numbers. We want them high riding SUVs, including myself. Went over to only buy SUVs in the beginning of 2010…
Love the Easter eggs. I didn’t know about the hook or the range projection. Another Easter egg is auto high beam with pixel head lights - only works with a flick on the stalk.
Rear passenger space is terrible in the Polestar. I had to break my neck getting in. I’d stick with a Model Y and getter much more for my money, better tech and performance. Plus a charging network.
I am actually against automatic parking brakes engaging when you leave the car. People get absolutely used to it and when they drive cars that don't do that, they get out of the car without activating the parking brake and very bad stuff happens next
So false! Less room, less range, less performance, less car for more $ is the polestar 2 fans reality. Vs the many millions of intelligent tesla fans who bought a model 3, still the world's overall best selling ev EVER! 😀

I do like the look of this PS2 and have since it was first released. But it is wickedly expensive compared to something like a Tesla Model 3 , which has a certain charm too. This video looks too much like an advert for my liking I am afraid. I would still have to decide for myself.
The one big thing I like is the RWD! They should have been like that from the first model. I have a 2021 model and wish it was RWD otherwise I love the car. Great to see Polestar are doing everything for clean production 💪🏼👏🏼👍🏼❤️💯🎯
I will get one RWD in about a month. You got everything right but forgot 2 things. Top speed is now again 205 km/h and the charging speed is higher with a top of 205 kW. The WLTP range of the RWD is now officially 654 km with the 19 inch wheels.
@@06younger It was inititally estimated by Polestar to be 635km. When tested in the WLTP cycle it reached a maximum of 654km. They beat their own estimations. It is such a beautiful car, love the looks. Hate the huge center console with no storage. But the biggest problem with this car is its price: P*2 LR AWD with Performance pack costs (at least in my country) 6000€ more than a Model Y performance and that is even without options (Pilot pack and plus pack). With those packs, which you need to have comoarable cars, it is 15000€ more expensive?!?!
Yes here in the UK an equivalent Tesla is a whopping 31.5% cheaper. Thats £12,800 more for the equivalent Polestar. You have to add extras like a heat pump, electric seats, LED lights, panoramic roof, and even a granny cable - which is a bit of a cheek for such an expensive car to start with....
After 3 years of ownership only now after watching your video have I discovered the Curry Hook. I had to dash out to the car last night to make sure we had one and was like a kid in candy store. Having and using it though are 2 different things. Now Ive found it I want to use it but for the life of me I cant think of a reason to at the moment but I'll keep wracking my brains 😄 Also, we used to do the waggle with our feet to open the boot and gave up but having tried the straight kick it just works so thanks for a second new toy to play with !!
I'm not sure how to take this review. Either this is the best car that has ever happened or ever will... Or the marketing department hired someone who can suck a golf ball though a garden hose!
A) I freely admit (in the video) to being a fan of the brand B) I open the video by highlighting all the weak points of the outgoing car. You absolute flannel
No mention of the enormous price differential between this vehicle and an equivalent Tesla - a whopping 31.5% MORE for the Polestar. Nice but not thirteen grand extra nice.

Currently deciding between a PS2 and i4 for my company car. Would choose a Tesla but already have one as my personal car. Did a 200 mile trip in a 2022 PS2 and was shocked by the bad interior vs my Model Y. Hopefully this refresh has improved the quality
BMWs are usually very very good, if very very expensive. So the i4 is probably going to impress. I do prefer the look of the Polestar, it is beautifully proportioned - at least on the exterior. People say that speccing big rims spoils the ride on the PS2. If it is a company car - surely you have your pick of marques?!
Little easter-Egg from a Polestar consultant: there is a charging-card holder in the glove box. Open the glove box and on the top of it, there is a storage compartment. And from underneath that storage compartment there is a little sign of a charging-card. Under that sign is the spot where you can let the Polestar hold your charging-card, so it doesn't fly around somewhere in the car or makes your wallet thicker.
Well I sure hope it is better than the first Polestar 2, because the first one was garbage. I regrettably had one for 6 months and I spent almost every day of that requesting to return to my lease company. Thankfully they caved in and let me return it, because I HATED it. It was such a massive let down in almost every regard compared to my old Lexus IS300h. Yes, the accelleration was good on the Polestar, but that is where its positive attributes ended. Also, I loved the electric bit... so this isn't some anti-EV rant. The Polestar 2 I got was utterly rubbish. The reverse sensors were on crack, and would emergency stop randomly whilst reversing - have almost shat myself on more than one occasion. The so called "cutting edge" tablet infotainment was garbage too, I had to reboot it every 2 or 3 days just to get sound coming out of it. It is also sluggish to get media playing though, and the USB ports don't allow you to connect a pendrive with MP3s either. The seats are nothing special for a car exceeding £50K. Oh, and how many times do you have to endure "initialisation error" every time you plug it in to charge??! Its ridiculous how often the first AND second charge attempts fail. This isn't just my home, this is a multitude of chargers. And this brings me to the next point! Adaptive Cruise Control. PAY ATTENTION POLESTAR!! If a car does not have this fitted, DO NOT PUT THE BUTTONS FOR IT ON THE STEERING WHEEL!! This is a death trap for any Polestar or Volvo driver who is familiar with that steering wheel. More importantly, how many cars costing in excess of £50K don't have adaptive cruise control?!?! All in all, getting the polestar 2 was the WORST car decision I have ever made. I paid a small fortune to be the custodian of what was effectively a featureless husk. An electric Ariel Atom. I am now back onto driving the dinosaur juice unfortunately, but my Lexus CT200h is fully functional, comfortable and all the features ACTUALLY WORK.
Thank you Jack...I love the whole mantra of Polestar but sitting in one feels like I'm in a mummy sleeping bag and that huge centre console as you state as well which I'm glad of needs to shrink. Those tips and tricks though that you showed are fantastic. I'm starting to think well if you have the P2 maybe I can, also tall just 1" shorter, but with the new standard range which is probably the best I can afford for the Polestar range here in Australia all depends on interior(light colour) and heatpump inclusion.
Lol, ends the video with to choose a model 3 over it you’d have to hate yourself. Kinda ridiculous. I love my Tesla FSD!!! Can’t get that in a polestar.
@@JackScarlett1ah!... But isn't fsd a pointless, expensive, foolish distraction which almost nobody actually needs and which will probably never be safe and reliable enough anyway....!?
I like the shape and interior but it is such a pity the Polestar is so high, it needs to be lower, I would like more cars that are lower to aid handling and efficiency, this car seems like an SUV with a saloon body. Also the reason I have a tesla Model 3 Performance is because of the superb charging network and excellent software, once the other networks catch up I will consider another brand, I think the Google infotainment is good from what I hear, so more brands should adopt this if they cannot produce reliable user-friendly systems. For example, my wife has an Ioniq 5, it takes about 30 seconds to open the charge flap using the app, my tesla it takes about 2 seconds to respond and her car never seems to acclimatise the cabin on a schedule, where the Tesla always seems to work and cools or warms the car quickly whenever I need it too.
If you're American and about to write a comment about how the Model 3 is cheaper. STOP. This is a UK-based video and here in the UK the Model 3 Long Range is £50,990 and the Performance is £57,990. The Polestar 2 long range is £48,950 and the Performance is £57,950 so similar but the Polestar slightly cheaper. If you want to argue about charging networks, looks, build quality, range, or performance, go ahead, but I'm finding it quite tiresome seeing Americans constantly talk about how much cheaper Tesla is because they refuse to consider the prices anywhere else in the world.
I understand that the Tesla has most cars beaten on the technical side........but not everyone is willing to buy a Tesla. I am curious to see this "new" Model 3 Highland version....... but they are just so bloody bland. Main reason is I really, really, really don't want to contribute to the Musk moron getting any richer. I understand the “smart panel” on the Polestar 5 because it houses more sensors, but on the 2 with only a parking camera it seems kind of silly. The panel itself is fine, but to label and have a big surrounding for just a camera is overkill.
Bold statement at the end there. Tesla have the supercharger network, which, for those chewing through the miles for work is a game changer, also the Tesla charges much faster.
Just drove a rental 2023 Polestar 2 and in many ways it was behind my 2012 3-series. The reversing camera was completely black at night rendering it almost useless. The wiper controls were a mystery; I couldn't seem to set them to auto. My family in the back were shivering with cold while I was melting at the front. The active cruise control was barely an improvement on a car I had in 2007. And while my 3 series doesn’t have lane assist, the Polestar kept deciding my hand wasn't on the steering wheel when it was until I gave up and just used manual steering because it was more comfortable. It was the first EV that's I'd driven though and as an experience it was incredible - very very relaxing. But being behind a 2012 BMW in terms of any aspect of technology or design detail is inexcusable - so hopefully this facelift has addressed those basic issues.
This is definitely a UK-centric review and that's fine. For those of us in snowier icy climates, RWD is an invitation to disaster. Far better to go with the AWD Polestar set up with decent winter tires. IMO, after three winters, I can say it's probably the best winter performance car I've driven with last ICE car being a Subie WRX.
