Dude, you are a lifesaver. I just got a new PC last month running Win 11. I've been losing a bunch of ranked matches in Street Fighter 5, matches I've won before against people I play. I tried your suggestions and the game feels so much snapper. Street Fighter does have a fullscreen option but the volume slider is always visible when I increase the volume. After your fix it's gone. I changed this in Apex just to see if it would make a difference. I immediately noticed my game was buttery smooth and my tracking aim feels soooo much better. Did not realize the input lag or stuttering was bad until I did this. Thank you!

I guess that's the reason why most people say DX12 games without exclusive full screen mode are fine, never had a single one running on my PC with wind10 that doesn't have exclusive fullscreen mode that wouldn't be a god damn high input lag garbage regardless of the FPS and it's annoying that most don't have a exclusive full screen mode programmed grrrrr... On those games that are DX12 exclusive with no true fullscreen mode I activate ATI Anti-lag in the AMD drivers of my GPU, it improves it a bit but still is far worse than just any other game with exclusive fullscreen.

If you're an Star Wars The Old Republic player and doing Operations (Raids, different name but the same deal as WoW) then you know you literally have to use Windowed Mode otherwise the Star Parse (App for showing stats of DPS, Tank/Taunt, Healing) will not show while playing SWTOR. So my point here is that some games may support this but sometimes you're forced to skip these kind of stuffs otherwise you won't be able to use something else for the game.

I tried this on Remnant 2 but as you mentioned there is a second program running but it's not a client. When I search it on the Children list I cannot find that second one, thus I'm stuck. It's sad because I can tell this could be the kind of title that would really benefit from exclusive fullscreen. Any help is welcome.

Some games actually have the "exclusive" setting and other settings built-in into their menus. Example Call of Duty. You can also add registry keys to the favorites in regedit since you can create a name, you can also make shortcut notes for the settings in the name.

@@ReptilezDzn .. MW2 uses DirectX 12 and it offers: Windowed, Fullscreen Exclusive, Fullscreen Borderless and Fullscreen Extended. To me that seems crazy, but whatever. To my limited understanding, "Fullscreen Exclusive" can improve performance, VRAM usage and for "my" interest reduce pesky frame drops / stuttering from background apps. Considering my PC has an i9-13900K and a GPU with 24GB of VRAM and 64GB of RAM and few background tasks I'm probably being dumb about it being my preference mostly because every time I ALT + TAB I'm siting there with a blank screen for a couple seconds and ditto using HDR also has similar behavior.

@@DJaquithFL yeah, but you could use launch commands to make it not be in dx12. and yeah playing in FSE do improve performance in some games, but it is also the otherway around, playing FSB could also make you gain fps, depends on title and hardware. i've also read around that FSE wont work with dual monitor setups, atleast it didnt use to. i get the same fps 1% and avg is the same on either FSE or FSB, i prefer using FSB anyway cause i tend to tab out of the game alot.

i tried this on rust, on benchmarks the full screen exclusive move gives me 10 less fps(from 80-85 to 70-73), i have tried in a server with high pop(600-700) and i felt more smooth and with less latency, i have to try more to see if its worth to get a little more fps or to get less latency

Just sincere thank you, man... For those games that don't want to go into exclusive fullscreen mode, try in steam: needed game in your library > properties > general > add "-window-mode exclusive" in the launch options.

If you can't find your game in registry, you need to have XBox Game Bar enabled first and run the game, open the game bar in it, and then you should be able to find it.

You could just search the registry for your game.exe CTRL F to find and F3 to cycle through locations. Older games probably wont show up? Mine don't & the only way I found FSE was by changing my resolution - I was 1920x1080 but i got it to work on 1400x900.

No real point in disabling FSO in newer windows builds it’s gotten way better and it’s best to leave it at default. Older builds like 1809 and even 20h2 FSO disabled does help but most of the time it “feeling better” is mostly placebo.

@Panjno 3:30 on windows 11 you need to override high DPI scaling behavoir and set it to application at least for pubg otherwise it will not work and you also need to set the checkmark for FSO disabled. i personaly always change it for all users just to be sure.
