Another great video bro, you can talk about the same engine a million times, and they won't ever get old, and I think you'd only RU-vidr that ever said you going to buy a car basically for your subscribers, now that's love and loyalty and from your fans and your subscribers love and loyalty right back at you 💯🔥💪
Thanks a lot my brother ! The one thing I messed up on a year ago was not listening to my subscribers. after a year, I sat down with myself and wanted to redevelop what this channel was all about to begin with. And I come to that conclusion to do what made you subscribe in the first place. I noticed and it took me along time to recognise, M cars are all nice to see on here and the mechanical issues. But long term they are not viable , sustainable neither are they affordable for many. I had to dig deep and come to the realisation with that and that’s why, I want to sell the M5 now to bring more affordable stuff and carry that on for stuff you guys can relate. As I said in the video I don’t want you guys to lose faith in me and I don’t want money to change me as it does many people on RU-vid and lose track of what they actually built up there channel from. I thank every single person that watches me and thank you for all supporting me from the start , now and forever. And I will continue to release videos on this car for you guys the more love and support you show me. And after this car we have my black E60 with the N52 that needs a full restore so we shall continue what this channel is so known and loved for!
Love your videos and totally agree. I have a 2011 N52 engine and it’s hitting a solid 225,000 miles. I’ve maintained the shit out of it with oil changes every 6k miles. Done all the obvious gasket replacements, drive belt, coils, plugs, check valves, valvetronic motor and everything else which I learned from your channel. Thanks for all the great videos🙏🏽
Hello Dr. Dean, I am long time viewer , first time member. YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO INFORMATIVE. I have been a mechanic for 27 years and I learn something new EVERYTIME! I own a 535i and you have bailed me out a couple times. Just wanted to say thanx . ROCK ON DOC 🤘
You are absolutely right. Most modern cars not just bmw are specified with 5w 30 in order to reduce internal losses in order to meet emission targets. And they all run hot. Totally agree that change oil more frequently than specified.
I fully agree with you. I have a 335i N54 motor and suffered vanos errors, misfire and generally bad performance. Dirt build up in the vanos filters and could also been seen in the oil filter. After changing the oil service interval much less problems. The filters stay clean. None of that carbon like grit in the filers and vanos operating fine. Being in South Africa and having a hotter climate it all make sense.
I am in 🇿🇦Nelspruit. One of the hottest landscapes near Kruger gate. I own same engine bro on e93. I am a victim of not regular engine change. I'm in a process of DIY overhaul the engine. I am learning a great deal from Dr Dean and others. Great tutorial clip. Those with ears they'll definitely listen.😎
Top top advice, I'm old skool...whatever car I've had since 1989!!! I've changed my oil & filter Spring time then Autumn time. When I top up I love seen them cams & internals golden brown NOT black gunk shite... I've gone 5W 30 winter & 5W 40 summer. Great engine N52 630i.
I couldn't agree more . It seemed quite strange to me that BMW would tout long service intervals between oil changes given the nature and sensitivity of the vanos system . I fully understand and agree with you completely. Oil is definitely the life and dictates the longevity of the N52 engine.
I’m over the moon you bought this car I’ve got the exact same model 2006 auto though, I’ll be watching your videos closely as your a man that knows his beemers 👊🏾
I still keep the first gen BMW X5 4.8is with the N62B48 engine. Yes, as Dr Dean mentioned regular oil changes goes a long way. I only put 5w40 in it and change the oil every 8000km. At 207,000km, it still purrs like a kitten and does not burn oil.
Just completed 2,600 Km's in my X4 around the Mae Hong Son loop in Thailand! ( Chiang Mai to Pai, to Mae Hong Son to Mae Sot). Fantastic car with a low COG that just 'works'. Open windows and roof--the bizz!
My recently bought 2010 E90/N52 broke its belt while I was driving. Still managed to drive home not knowing the belt issue. Luckily I found no belt debris had been sucked into the front crankshaft seal. Replaced the belt and tensioner and the roller beneath the alternator. While doing the oil filter housing seal and the water cooler seal adjacent to it, I found the seals had gone hard and there was oil everywhere on the front of the engine. Had to clean everything and re-installed the seals with some sealant to help them last longer. Oil change advice is good. That should apply to every modern car no matter what the mfr says in the manual, same with transmission fluid, diff fluid etc.
Hi doc, love your videos and after 3 years ownership of 530i E60 with N53 engine i sold it. Bought 540i from BMW premium selection and the car is on 22 000 km , thanks to you i learned so many things about the Bmw's now i can do almost everything by my self! No need to be cheap!
How was your experience with N53, I’ve got N53B30A on 530xi LCI E60, no issues so far owning it for 3y but also wanna check if u changed something. i’ve got 340k km on clock so far
I change the oil on my 2018 530d every 8500 miles. I use Castrol Edge Titanium LL 5E 30 and I strongly recommend anyone else who drives the new gen G30 BMWs to do likewise as the official 19000 BMW oil change is too long. I also use the official BMW filters - do not use cheap oil filters. Just rock up to the BMW Service desk, give your reg/vin and buy a few original ones. If they mumble about you servicing you car while it's under a service plan just say it's for your brother's car which is the same model and year.
My 22yo 735i is still going strong after 220,000km because she's had fresh oil and filter every six months for her entire life, I've done this knowing it runs at 108 or what I call a hot runner. I recently did the timing guides as a time based preventantive maintenace measure and found my engine still very clean internally with a tiny 10mm round patch of slude in the pan. I've worked on other M62 engines that followed BMW's extraordinary 25,000km intervals and at 150,000km their timing guides fail and internally they're caked in sludge everywhere. Like Dean said BMW make it sound good that they don't need much servicing to the first owner, but BMW want to sell new cars and lots of parts for any who dare to buy a poorly maintained old one, so there's a secondary financial benefit to promote poor servicing.
I own a 15' 428i Grand Coupe Sport, N-20. Was happy to see upon purchase that one oil recommended was 5-40, ofcourse full synthetic. As l live in Florida with hot and humid conditions for the majority of the year the higher viscosity was welcome to see as my other BMW'S do not show that in the owners manual. The others are now using the far better 5-40. A great sorce of information you add to my BMW knowledge subscribed a little while ago, thanks keep up the excellent work....🇺🇸
These engines don't require oil changes. Between oil burning and leaks, just add a quart once or twice a month, change the filter once a year and you're good to go lol. I also wish we got the e63 with the n52 here in the states, it's the most reliable engine they made for that era.
well said bro you are spot on that is the key to keeping her in good order for the price of an oil and few filters its for nothing not to to do them small jobs after 5k miles rether she needs or not stunning content bro keep up the good channel stunning to whatch this amazing content thanx bro for everthing you bring to your great channel and good luck with the new motor
Quick question... Oil flush or no oil flush? Bought '07 325i E92 2.5 with no recent oil change records. Oil that came out looked ok but it has 95k and I am about to change it again: should I use a flush or not? Cheers Dean 👍
I think all manufacturers , prolong there oil changes , to sell there cars ,I change my Porsche cayman s oil every 5 thousand miles ,even my old BMWs every 8/ 10 thousand miles ..my Merc the same and new filters.
I have a favor I installed a Eonon car stereo in my 2011 335ixdrive coupe. It’s a Q65pro if that helps stereo but anyway I followed along with all the setups on the recommended install. Now my turn signals don’t work and the dashboard lights don’t work? Window’s don’t roll down? Door’s don’t lock? Do you please have any idea or tips where I could check? What to do or look into I can’t get around now on the road. Code Cc-ID-231 Footwell Module is bad I guess?
Would you also recommend it for n53b30? That's what i always used for my 330i n53. I used to use Valvoline SynPower 5w40 and then switched to Motul X-Cess Gen2. I think that my engine was smoother while using the SynPower oil. Do you recommend something better? Cheers.
I cannot believe people actually stretch to 10k mile oil changes. I change every 5k miles or 6 months whichever is sooner. Oil is very cheap. Currently running Mobil 5W30 it runs very well but I’m in a cold climate. This summer I’m looking at switching to 5W40 for my N52 and M54 engines. Any brand recommendations for oil?
I would strongly reccomend shell helix 5W40 that’s what BMW now use after years of using Castrol. Even though, I was using it before they was 😂 maybe they was watching my videos who knows.
@@BMWDoctor is there any reason why Shell helix compare to Castrol? I've been using Liqui moly but bit of a budget cut now soo I now use Castrol as what everyone suggests. But havent heard anything about Shell helix compared to Castrol
thanks always informative... I have a couple questions I use castrol 0w40 I'm back and forth from 30⁰f to 110⁰f ... and is it possible to change the oil too often... probably not... I keep it pretty consistent at 3000 mile intervals for my 07 525xi...
I got a 09 n52 x5 3.0i .. I work like 1.5 a mile from home I put barely any miles on it. Should I be changing my oil sooner then what you suggest or does me not driving so far matter ?!
Hi Dean, I think the miles or kms to oil change is to everybody different. If you drive a lot in the city, you better change it faster then when you drive long distants. To us,we drive 12000 km (7500 miles) a year, short and long distants,i do the change one’s a year (5W40). One question…what is your advice of brand?
Hi Dean I am from UK and got an e60 2008 with n53 engine wondering if you still recommend the same 5w40 engine oil for that. Also any recommendations or preventative maintenance that I should do on the N53 engine? Its done 108k miles . Really hard to find much video on that engine. Thanks
Hi Doc my bmw failed to close I undone front locking mech opened boot pulled the two cords to release mechanizm we got closed but now on dash roof signal comes up on dash and sounds to let you know.how do I reset the two pullies that I released prior to closing manually hope you can help
hey mate got a question. got one with 150 k and changed all top end gaskets and already done 2 oil changes with 5w-40 met to bmw long life. But, i’m seeing glitter in it after first oil change? why would this happen?
Hey bmw doctor i have an issue everytime i drive my e60 normally and it leaks some drops on the headers and smokes but if i drive like a stunt driver it wont happen Any ideas? Thanks

Hi i have a bmw e90 320d and i hear some engine noise in the cabin which i measured was less than 60db when idle so just wanted to know is it something should i be concerned of?
Can someone help me with this issue! I bought new battery cause my car it was not turning at first! Well I put new batterie and still it’s not turning it sounds like it’s going to start but it’s not turning! What it could be ! Please need help. Thank you
Everyone who works on engines gives that advice. Were BMW technicians and service advisors trained to try and talk you out of early oil changes? As a matter of interest what's the longest time you've seen CBS go for between oil changes? Porsche seems to be even worse, it's as if it takes a few years for the service message to appear on my 997. I just change it every year at any rate even though it only does a few thousand each year.
