What’s your favorite food combination?

I'm a 60 year old rocker that grew up with the great rock of the 70's and 80's. The Maids are now one of my all time favorite bands.

Moratorium - song containing a switch-up from one of Band Maid's most poppy moments to one of their most grungy and back again. Awesome - and I wish we got more like this.

The double-bass kicks, the divebombing guitar squeals, the Slaves & Bulldozers breakdown, the fan-friendly chant...what a ride. This is the song that hooked me back in 2018. Now buckle your seatbelt and do Awkward!!!

I appreciate your respect for BAND-MAID’s copyrighted content. They make some much freely available that I resent people who post reactions based on bootleg material. (That said, enjoy a private look at the Zepp performance.) BAND-MAID understand that our brains need familiarity, but crave novelty. I love MORATORIUM, because it satisfies this, including a riff that sounds familiar but that I’ve never heard elsewhere, and because it’s super heavy. It also includes a sing-along part that works anywhere on the globe. In Rock, we count, “one-and-two-and…,” or “1-e-and-a, 2-e-and-a, …” Pay the Google tax and banish commercials from your RU-vid. Finally, speaking of perception, what do you see when you look at that album cover?

Bravo for only reacting to official MVs. What’s great about your reactions is that even though I’ve watched lots of other reactions to these songs you always point out something fresh.

At the time of recording, Miku's part is played by Kanami using Miku's gear. However, Miku plays it live. In other words, recording or releasing is the starting point for a song. For Miku, after receiving Kanami's demo, she writes lyrics that fit the song, and once the lyrics are complete, she has to work on chorus, changing the chorus parts and improving the perfection of the chorus, which must be prioritized. . So she doesn't have enough time to concentrate on guitar. The live performance may differ from the recorded song. But the songs evolve. Both the arrangement and Miku's proficiency. Sometimes Miku's parts are added or become more sophisticated. Not only Miku, but everyone will evolve. Therefore, if possible, I would like you to listen to both the recorded original and the live version.

Can you believe that this song is 🔥🔥🔥 when played live?! Seeing Miku whispering at the beginning and Kanami singing this "Whow oh oh" part ... priceless, Po! 😀

this is one of the earliest examples of their mastery in melding different genres -- punk, hard rock, metal, thrash, anthemic pop [and prog/jazz in their other comps] -- seamlessly into a singular auditory succulent.

Band Maid doesn't write bridges, they write shiny new little songs that live inside bigger ones, like Russian dolls. It's hard for me to remember another band that allows itself such radical departures when writing a song... over and over again.

The “Whisperer” at the beginning is Miku….. If you see the live video she is so cute and SEDUCTIVE I fell in LOVE …..again!!❤❤. Great reaction, as always, to one of my favs by Band Maid… the Best band on the planet.

Kanami makes great use of tension in her compositions. They often end songs, like this one, in tension. The heavy halftime bridge, more tension. She also uses dissonance a lot, like she did in the middle part of the guitar solo here. Then the release of the big choir sing-along. Similar idea applies to the vocals on the upbeat. Then you get the big release on the downbeat and the accented syncopation in the chorus. Even the melody line jumps higher when you don't really expect it. And, as you said, the dynamics are constantly shifting in really interesting ways. That's why she's so good at what she does and they're so good as a band. I doubt you're going to get many people who don't consider this one of their favorite B-M songs.

This is just a great Band-Maid song. So much of everything we all love about Band-Maid in this. Killer Kanami riff with great tone, Misa funking a heavy rock/metal track, catchy chorus and sing along section and Akane bringing it home with pounding double bass.

Great reactions…Band-Maid does tweak this song live! This song is in my top 5 because: - Hard driving riff wt . Kanami always adding her color. - Akane - unbelievable driving drums - MISA! MISA! ¡Hola! “Moratorium” is absolutely one of my favorites ❤ MISA’s tone and playing in verse 2 is a tone I dream of. Those pops on top make it 💎 And your reaction on the bridge/solo is exactly why THIS is one of their best A few of those possibly questionable videos are directly responsible for me buying every Band Maid CD ever made, some of them twice as gifts, buying t-shirts and other merchandise, and going to a Band Maid Okyuji. The neat thing about listening to the audio track is, if you like the album version, you are going to LOVE the live version!

Princess NittPicc, I'm so glad to see you reacting to "Moratorium". It's one of my favorite Band-Maid songs. I'm always hoping they will play it at their live concerts. To me. This song, along with Dice, cemented Band-Maid as one of my all time favorite bands!

Now that I've seen them live my next goal is to see them play Moratorium live, and one of their one man shows so everyone in the audience know when they're supposed to sing. The singalong part there when everything else drops out is the crowd's part, and they have to keep it going while Saiki sings. The crowd is NUTS at one of their shows so this has got to be super duper special!!! Oh, and singing on the offbeats. Good for you for noticing that because they do a lot of syncopated rhythms like that. Yolo has the same thing - and nobody ever comments on it but it's NOT easy to pull off and have it sound tight.

Great reaction! The Gaijin Guys did a “battle of the songs” with 64 BAND-MAID songs, and Moratorium came in #2 behind Blooming. Also, how cool is that album cover.

This song was on Band Maid's channel awhile back. Treat yourself to one of your favorite reactor to it. My favorite was done by Champ of Medium.

One of my fave musical surprises is how this song is in C#m, but Saiki's first line in the verses rests on an F, which is the MAJOR 3rd. 😯 (Parallel major)

Thanks for the excellent commentary NittPicc! There are literally 100s of reactors who do in fact get distracted by the dress or gear or light show or whatever, while musical details go whizzing by. Your channel is one of my favorites because you focus on the music. Moratorium is definitely one of my favs, but for my tastes there are even more dense, surprising, and amazing songs in their repertoire that move the bar out even further. At the underrated end of things, for example, there is At the Drop of a Hat, with it's many beautiful lines weaving together. At the higher octane end, there is Giovanni.

This is the ultimate contrast song by a band built on the concept of contrast. Puzzle is the perfect hard rock song, and this is the perfect audience participation hard rock song.

There! At about 8 minutes in, you said exactly why Band-Maid has been my absolute favorite band for the past 7 years. Until I discovered Band-Maid, I was actually not really into music. I enjoyed it when it was on somewhat, but never went out of my way to listen to it. But all I had been exposed to was the mainstream stuff. And it all did the pattern you spoke of and didn't change anything in between. So when I listened to Band-Maid for the first time, and they changed the way the second part of the song went compared to the first? It was dazzling and new to me! And when Kanami went Rock Goddess on her solos, I was hooked. Because until then, I only heard solos that were pure show off. Her solos actually matter to the songs themselves, while at the same time being impressive as heck. Uh... went on a bit of a rant there. Sorry, got excited. tldr: Band-Maid is great because they are creative, and what they do in their songs is unexpected and different. Love them so much.

Oh and to add "Dilly Dally" just like "Hunky Dory Day" I think Miku has a thing for 50s American slang.

One of my 100 or so favorite Band-Maid songs. Thanks for checking this out! And for your comments about respecting the artists' need to make a living. Seriously, this was one of Misa's early coming out numbers--that thundering bass line has become a signature part of their sound, for sure.

I respect your ethics, unlike some other reactors. People who clamor for the free stuff need to subscribe to Band-Maid Prime to get the content they want. They need to support the band on their streaming channel instead of ripping them off.

"Moratorium" is my second favorite song, just behind "Freezer". Here is my reason. With all BM songs you get the interplay between guitars, drums and bass, but "Freezer" is the best vocal play between Miku and Saiki. It really is twin vocals where both of them shine and it is what made me a Madiac.

Definitely one of my fave Band--Maid tunes, loved the version they did live in the Yokohama Arena spinoff stream in February. This just goes so hard, one of best songs to introduce hard rock fans to Band-Maid. There's fan cam footage from some of their European shows in 2019 where Kanami does full on rock goddess guitar intro (Mincho Plus) that just is amazing.

If you get a chance, try find and watch them perform this song during the 10th Anniversary spinoff concert from a couple months ago. The performance is off the rails. As always, right on Nittpicc! This is indeed a favorite (how do you choose just one). Fun detail. Listen close to the voice in the 'oh, oh, oh, oh, oh' kind of chorale part at the beginning and end of the bridge and in the outro. It's not Saiki, but it doesn't quite sound like Miku? It's Kanami.

Po Crunch - Oops, All Bangers! LOL! This is one of my all-time favorites, no doubt. Not sure where in the ranking, but that's a tough call. For any Band Maid fan, try making a top 10 only list. It's not easy. Many people say their top 10 Band Maid list has at least 55 songs in it, LOL! But this is a banger and a crowd pleaser. As great as it is even on the CD, feeling and hearing it live in the venue is beyond powerful! It is an energy source all its own. This was the song that turned be into an absolutely raving madiac. The two live videos out there of this song absolutely slam. (The live show that kicked off this album and the Zepp performance)

Here's the craziest thing about BM lyrics. I find myself far more moved by their lyrics than any current English speaking band, even when it's the mix with Japanese. I believe Miku has a wee bit 'o genius in her and Saiki is coming along nicely as well. Sigh such a wealth of all around talent in this one band it really isn;t fair, is it? As for you young lady, another in a growing series of very insightful, fun ( gotta have fun! ), in-depth reviews of BM compositions . Love it.

"make up your mind." I bought the subscription for the Zepp Yokohama !0th Anniversary Extension. It expires tomorrow and I've watched it many times. It has a blazing performance of "Moratorium" and crowd roared at the opening notes.

My #5 favorite Band-Maid song after Blooming, Daydreaming, Puzzle, & Screaming. The maids played this during the 10th Anniversary spin-off show and it was awesome (of course).

If you purchased a subscription to BAND-MAID PRIME, then you DO "own" the DVD... the entire Zepp Tokyo concert from the DVD, as well as the Studio Coast & Akasaka Blitz performances are on there. 😊

Moratorium is an amazing song. I think the live version everyone wants you to hear is the performance at Studio Coast in November of 2017. The Zepp Tokyo 2018 show is an equally amazing show. For example Onset and Real Existence which are official lives.

This is why I enjoy listening to better musicians than me listening to Band-Maid. They hear something/clarify something that I've missed of not understood. Thanks. I gave up trying to pick best Band-Maid songs a while ago. The list was too long.

The performance of this song on the 10th Anniversary Tour is pure gold; Saiki calm and composed, sweating it out, while the band and crowd around her going crazy, like she is welding some kind of supernatural power, totally awesome. I'm hoping for an official release.

This song has been my favorite since I first heard it the Guitar work the bass runs and the pounding drums. But also Kanami sings on this one in the live version. Plus hearing the audience sing along at live shows is cool too.

I think, Epic is a good word. There was a discussion between Saiki and Akane about learning to use off beats by taking a dance class taught by a friend of Saiki. It was in 1-on-1 talks Vol.3 from the member movies on the official web-site 11.05.2021 If you haven't joined the website or Prime yet, you're really missing out on a ton of content you won't find on RU-vid.

You're probably going to get some interesting feedback, but I would stick to what makes you comfortable. I'm not a copyright police officer so I don't go reporting ripped stuff, but I don't feel right seeing it out there. As a former professional photographer, copyright violations made me re-evaluate my career direction. It's unfortunate, many will not understand unless you are doing it as a business/career. Just my 2 yen. Take it for what it's worth.

I love the version from summer 2019 with the Kanami solo-intro they played on their European Tour. Bochum and Hamburg are my favourites and easy to find on YT.

I know all too well what it's like to not finish a song on the tonic note. I was in high school music theory class, the assignment was to take the semester and come up with original medley, then write a 200-measure song for entire symphonic band.... 3 flute parts,3 clarinet, etc. At the end of the school year, the band would play all the songs me and my classmates wrote. I was double checking the end of my piece, when I realized I had not ended the song right, I panicked and changed the last note of all the parts. When my turn came up for the band to play my song, it was hard to play my euphonium part because I wanted to hear what I had created.... all was going well until that last note. The director was then shuffling through his score looking for the next page to continue, but there wasn't anymore. He and a bunch of my classmates just looked at me and we all just lost it. The director says, "ahh, so your song is called "Summer", I guess you don't want it to end" I was like yea, yea I meant to do that! 🤣 I panicked for no reason, I originally had the ending right. DUH!

This is one of my Top-10 favorite Band-Maid songs...and Hibana...and Secret MY Lips and Puzzle and Unfair Game.

Well you might privately enjoy this fan-cam of their opening song at the small Ace Of Spades club in Sacramento CA in 2023. They were on a small corner stage. As Miku says, "It's so, so, so, so hot" and the place was packed but I am so glad to have seen them this close. The one big thing missing from not seeing their live version is that MISA's bass *thunders* in the live version!

And yep, Saiki ends on the 5th, not the tonic. They have a lot of cool endings too. They'll sometimes do that with the drums. Leave you hanging that is. And I guarantee if you listen to the song 100 times, you'll hear something you didn't hear before every time.

Thank you so much for doing this song - regardless of if it is a MV or not. This was one of the first Band Maid songs I heard and I absolutely love the machine-gun drum pounding that it brings. I started down the Pigeon Hole from this and have never regretted a moment. Miku asks you to "Make up your mind" and this song Maid up my mind about the group. As @keithmeyer9558 says, it's worth also watching the MV for this. Watching it on a reactor's channel is worthwhile as they add a bit in the live performance. As it used to be on the band's RU-vid channel, it will be following your very reasonable feelings about people being paid for their efforts. I really enjoy your analysis and reactions.

I totally understand your feelings about only using official videos. As a musician I respect that. But if you get a chance to see the live version it will blow your socks off! Here’s a way to describe the opening riff by Kanami. A face melter! 😊😊 Glad you picked up Saiki singing on the offbeats. It is so counterintuitive to do that. That break you pointed out reminds me of Black Sabbath in the 70’s, for those of us old enough to remember that! 😊 On an extra note, I just don’t do “favourite” when it comes to anything, especially music. I think it just limits you so I took words like that out of my vocabulary.

You're mixing your metaphors. You step over lines, and step on toes, not the other way around. But yes, this is one of the videos take off RU-vid ahead of a DVD release. Bilibili has most all the Zepp Tokyo LIVE and Studio Coast stuff. But, as a Chinese site, they don't care about copyrights. But the grat thing about the LIVE is after this song it goes into 'Puzzle' with that heavy double pop in the snare. You don't really get that as strongly on the newer LIVE version of that. Tay! Tay! Big Boo Tay! If you're a Buckaroo Banzai fan you'll get it. And, don't be mean. You don't have to be mean, because no matter where you go . . . there you are.

Bold statement: The very recent performance of this at the Yoko Spin-off show is possibly the best live version yet. Yeah, debate away...

Kanami's fast and furious fretwork on her PRS is a sight to behold during a live concert. While it's not one of her solos, it is amazing to watch how give you so many chords in seconds. Akane and MISA's work on this song demonstrates why it is one of all Maidiacs favorites. WHAT A SONG!!!!!
