This one simple ear training trick got me through 3 years of music school. Here's how it could help you to internalise standards and master chromatic coordination!
Singing while you play is a well known trick often recommended by improvisers. I share my #storytime of how I studied the classical pipe organ for a 3 year university degree without ever playing an organ! I believe you can apply this technique to most instruments to really ensure that the material you are working on is truly internalised.

Yes! This is absolutely the way to internalize the sounds of a progression to be able to intentionally express yourself the way that you would like to. 👍

3 minutes in and you're spot on. As soon as you can hear the notes playing in your head and know intuitively what they are, actually playing them on your instrument is easy!

Thanks Daragh, it's certainly a large part of the equation! Cheers

Been trying this today. The singing is definitely difficult on standards.

Very tough for me! Certain passages I've been focusing on have become much more comfortable when soloing already as an anecdotal proof of concept

nice guitar. too bad you're playing jazz on it. Hindemith had the same recommendation: Sing it well, and it is possible to play it later, due to some internal brain-body coordination.
