as an isaac veteran, theres really no point in playing without all the DLC imo, the added content is just fun, and some of the items really make the game easier, especially the lost starting with holy mantle allowing you to take 1 hit each room really makes it easier to unlock everything
also, conquest can only show up on the womb so if you use the book of revelations on basement 2, mines 1 & 2 and depths 1, you should be able to easily get super meat boy, but the easiest way to do it is just to use lilith on greed mode after getting the cube of meat, again making the secret stupidly easy with the dlc
Hey yeah I know about the holy mantle I was able to find it luckily during some of my lost runs but you're right about it being easier with the dlc hence why I mentioned it being easier. I went without the dlc just because I knew vanilla isaac was considered harder so it was a bit of a challenge but you're right things like Greed mode are hella fun and I'm enjoying getting to play it now
I never knew that about conquest interesting wish I knew that before haha, yeah when I mentioned it being significantly easier in the dlc I was hinting towards the Lilith greed mode method
I’m currently working on dead god (100%). I have 483 out of 637 unlocks. I’m sitting at 350 hours currently. It’s a beautiful game that truly tests your mettle. I disagree with one thing in this video. That being that it is RNG based. Yes, it is random like any good roguelike. Yet, with enough time and skill, you can prevail with even the worst Eden run setup. I found myself thing one character was the most difficult. Then after a few hours, I’ve beaten it. That is always followed by another character that is even harder. Those characters compile into you come quite skilled at the game. 10/10 would attempt to 100% again.
Oh absolutely you are 100% correct when I said RNG based it was more so to let those without knowledge of the game know that it's not a skill thing as many hunters put themselves down in relation to "skill isssue" even if I don't believe in it myself. Perseverance and determination is the way to go like you heard in the video I was near 500 losses in a row until I got my first successful lost run. Nice progress on your end by the way you're smashing kt
As a person who’s been playing since wrath of the lamb, play the dlcs. Get some of the unlocks. Hold the restart button, use your resources, but be smart about it. Saving an emperor card for next floor to immediately go to boss to secure a deal chance, stuff like that. Unlocks like glitched crown, options, soul stones, holy mantle, godhead, the runes, are ESSENTIAL and basically run winners. The game get exponentially easier the more you learn and play. Also always play on hard
(P.s. this is meant for people watching this thinking they maybe wanna get into the binding of Isaac. I definitely recommend it. Been one of my fav games since around 2011)
I play the game on switch so no platinum for me but I am inching closer and closer to my first 100% with all dlc included, with my ultimate goal to do it at least 3 times total. It's brutal, but TBoI is my favorite game, period.
Hey, I don't know if you know this or if you just forgot to mention this in the video, but Lazarus actually has a mechanic that you didn't mention that differentiates him from base Isaac, wich is that if he dies, he comes back to life with higher speed, range, luck and a 1.2x dmg multiplier, this is without the repentance dlc, with dlc, he can die every floor once, but dying will take away 1 heart container, give him 1.4x dmg multiplier, more range and speed for the floor and 0.5 dmg up permanently, also the lost is sooooooooo much easier in repentance, thanks to him getting the active item eternal D6, wich allows him to reroll any item for the cost of 2 active item charges, and a possibility of 33% of deleting the item, they also added a trinket called perfection, which can be obtained in any run by not taking any dmg for 3 consecutive floors, it gives +10 luck and is destroyed if you take dmg, and since holy mantle dmg doesn't count as dmg, you can imagine that it is an amazing buff to the lost, also, he is definitely not the hardest character in repentance by far, a lot of people actually find him to be pretty fun and easy in comparison to some characters, let me give some examples, there is a character who's whole gimmick is that they are two characters, so you get, double dmg, double health and a double hitbox, you can imagine how frustrating playing them is, also, unless you go on certain routes or get certain items, technically you are going to get half the normal amount of items, did i mention that if one dies both die? Well, there you go. There is also a character that is constantly being chased by an invisible, all powerful flaming monster with the one goal of killing you, you can use him to your advantage since it deals MASSIVE dmg to anything that gets between him and the player, but if it touches you ONCE you are turned into the lost without holy mantle, and without the d6, so if you get touched by anything again you are toast, so if you play as this character you are forced to learn to take proposeful dmg as to avoid the monster, it can be fun considering that they are probably the most offensively powerful character, but the risk is so palpable that i honestly think that they are the hardest character by far, if you wanna see how bad it is you can watch the videos tainted jacob.exe 1 and 2 by lazy mattman, they are pretty well made and really show the gameplay and difficulty, especially the first one since by the time the second one came out, they were buffed to make it a lot easier, since before you could kill the monster, but if you did, everything in the room would die and you would turn into the lost, this was taken out since in a lot of the end of the runs you wouldn't be able to shoot without killing him, therefore killing you.
Yeah I forgot that lazarus revive so I made sure to show it on screen at least. Yeah I have heard a lot of the stuff about the dlc I am sure I will discover more and more as I continue playing, thanks for all the info I will keep some of this in mind when I start chasing the dlc trophies
11:33 another thing about luck is that it increases the chance of your tear effects, so lets say you have sinus infection, having a high luck stat will increase the chances of you shooting out more boogers instead of regular tears.
To be fair most roguelikes are known to be hard. Its just a more niche genre and what seperates most from the Big difficulty number is the mental amount of savescumming you can do to rig runs and the fact plenty dont have guides. I personally hate it because it goes against the design of a roguelike and its randomness but thats what trophy hunters do. Curse of the dead gods 10/10 without savescum same with Void Bastards, hell even dead cells or slay the spire(allthough their difficulty is adequately set if you dont abuse savestates). Guess thats why no one talks about them. If you want some advice for the DLC trophies I know a guy or two👀. Anyway enough nerding out, glad to see you back
Yeah well you know me I don't use the practice myself I challenge games genuinely and vanilla as you will have heard me comment in the video. They are definitely difficult games and take a lot of patience to get through them never mind the platinums
I have the platinum, got it in 2015 after the patch where they finally patched the buggy trophies. You have to learn the items to beat the game. Easy way to find items in the basement is to unlock them with a character then find it with azazel. The super meat boy & bandage girl, so basically, either get it naturally like i did with the book of revaltions early on. Or get monster manuel, sharp plug & a way to regenerate health like placenta, then keep using it until you get everything. Its boring, long & frustrating, but its a way. As for rebirth lost, get o.p asap. Or attain the knawed leaf & a orbital. Then just stand still.
I think you could pretty flexibly get through both the lost and the super meat boy if you played through the game enough to get R Key. Then, you get the run with School Bag and Book of Revelation and enough stages left and you can get all the horsemen. With the Lost, just learn enough to get through the first few stages after cycling through runs to get a powerful luck up item and you could use with Perfection as a trinket.
Oh yeah I did hear there were a lot of dlc add ons that helped with the lost and smb which I hinted at in the video, but I also know trophy hunters may get put off by their platinum being locked out by the dlc so wanted to spread that info out there
Awesome video, sir! It was very insightful and it made me glad that I outlined my rules about platinums the way I did! This looks like a phenomenal game. I was not expecting the religious stuff to go further than echoing Genesis 22:1-19. I have never played a roguelike so I don't know if I'd start with a game like this since this seems to be way harder than an average roguelike. I'd probably start with Hades, Peglin, or Risk of Rain 2. My opinion on roguelikes is that they should just be enjoyed-games you turn on for an hour or two for a couple runs when you feel like it-instead of being a game where you go for the platinum, but remember, I am a casual trophy hunter, so I don't quite understand the mentality; and on that note... What drives you to platinum a game like this? I can understand going into it with high spirits and a smile, and I understand not wanting to give up (I heavily relate to that since I have literally nearly hospitalized myself several times because of my refusal to quit), but if it is effecting your mental health in real life and causing you to go down a dark path, is that not grounds for you to stop-or at the very least take a prolonged period of rest? The video itself was well made and clean. You presented yourself well, and kept the audience interested by inserting memes and changing your tone throughout. Your speech is clean and informed and it was just incredibly fun listening to you. The editing was well-done and was not overdone. Overall, it is a really great video. I am interested to see you and your videos grow and evolve. Anyways, I feel like I have rambled on for long enough, so I will leave you with two last things: 1. What makes trophy hunting so rewarding? So much so, that you are willing to bend over backwards for a digital trophy? This is not meant to be me patronizing, nor making fun of you-this is me curious about what makes diehard trophy hunters tick. 2. Congrats on that platinum, sir. You REALLY earned it and I am proud of you for not backing down if that means anything. P.S., thanks again for answering my question about the story in the Discord earlier today-I didn't actually think there was much of a story beyond a zealot mother willing to kill her son to appease her god.
Hey mate so first of all I would like to say thank you for the feedback and kind words that you have to offer it means a lot considering I am still quite new to all of this. Now then to answer some of your questions and queries. So you are right Roguelikes and any games for that matter should always be enjoyed first before any thoughts of Platinums are even thought about and its a practice that I religiously follow with anything that I play. If you are looking for a good place to start I would recommend Hades, absolutely loved that game and cannot wait for the second game to eventually come to PlayStation. Isaac was a rare situation for me, typically I don't push myself this hard to get the Platinum and as the video and title suggests I had fully accepted that this wasn't a Platinum that I would get, but when I managed to get my first successful The Lost run it gave me a burst of energy, adrenaline and motivation to see if I could take it further and well we both know the result. However generally I would try to avoid feeling like this about a game, I did have a MASSIVE break from this game after the unfortunate incident mentioned later in the video. For me trophy hunting is rewarding as it drives me personally to not only complete the game but 100% it and give the game its full appreciation, there are games that I will never platinum however but I will still play them. Some of your questions I may address in a future video as its definitely something that could lead to a good discussion.
@@crimsonpurgatory93 Yeah, she is pretty good and fun to play. Isaac is my favorite, especially when you unlock the D6. I just have a skill issue and can’t unlock it.
I’m at almost 1000hrs and only 68/80 trophies for the platinum and I’ve reached a point where my desire to even play the game anymore let alone continue on trying for more marks and achievements is nearing its end I can feel it just draining my soul and wasting all my free time. It’s not a fun or fair difficulty in most runs/situations. I would also argue that J&E are far worse to play and control than the lost and that unlocking the forgotten is also far more annoying and frustrating than unlocking the lost.
Oh you are 100% right about the twins I heard how much of a nightmare they can be you must be playing the ps5 version then where all the dlc is required for the platinum. Don't let it consume you take breaks if you need to for the sake of your mental health and sanity
I am currently going for the platinum in vanilla rebirth and the only thing left for me to do is to get lvl 4 super meat boy in one run, it's been a fucking nightmare, but i am going to do it eventually anyway cuz i love the game. Great video dude, cheers!
@@Muskwasis-t1l been doing isaac runs to get the book of rev for around a month now, the couple times i got lucky i got the bandage instead of the cube 🫠
The game honestly isn't that hard. It's just time consuming and you need practice. I installed a mod that tells me what items are before I pick them up and it's a breeze. It's also always better to play it safe, and using strats like "sac room shuffle" after clearing a floor can make a dead run a god run. Going into a game like Isaac with the only objective being the platinum is a bit silly. Play and practice, then go for it.
Yeah I've heard that mods on the PC definitely help. I initially played this game for fun all those years ago when we got it for free. Honestly I just saw this as a good video idea for platinum hunters out there yo warn them about some things as not everyone in the community can push through a game like this. And your 100% correct a game should never be just about the platinum it's a subject I intend to cover in a future video
@@crimsonpurgatory93 that's extremely fair. I love the game on PC, I'm actually thinking of doing my 100% run on my ps5 so I can get the platinum. It'll take a bit, but I'll be ready 😅
@Muskwasis-t1l I actually never struggled with that 😅 You get tonnes of coins in greed mode and some games you can donate over 100. I think it only took me like 13 games to do it
glad I'm not the only one that fucking hates the horsemen because of meat boy and bandage girl here's a story if anyone wants to read it. so here i am finally getting every item done with lost done with everything untill i notice that I was missing one check I looked it up on the wiki and it was super bandage and realized i had to do the horsemen (should be ez hell was able to get meat boy in about 3 hours so time to grind) i did it for 20 hours 20 HOURS praying i get book of revelations or even getting famine to spawn it was so bad i started doimg tatlles in my notpad on how many times i got horsemen 30 famine 17 pestilence 5 wars not a single death I gave up on rebirth and decided fuck it I'm going to install afterbirth just so I know Lilith can help with while i was doing a lilith run a pestilence spawn and he gave me a ball of bandages thanks to restock i just spamed box of friends till i finshed so yeah fuck the horsemen it was easier to do lost and keepee then it was to get bandage girl
I played this for 7 years, and got the platinum. And the worst part is the final secret/item i needed was Super Meat Boy, yeah i all got all the fucking marks as lost before i got a full super meat boy
i've been trying to beat this with all DLCs, i've beat Hush (secret boss you unlock by beating Mom's Heart under 30 minutes, I don't think he exists in rebirth) a few days ago and am trying to best Isaac, I've got to his cathedral but no dice. And I've barely got anything with the other characters yet.
Part of the trick with Isaac is to try hug the corners or be close to them, helps massively when he goes for that room beams attack gives you enough time to dodge into corner
don't worry, man. I remembered when I thought I wouldn't be able to beat mom's heart, but now 89 hours, I'm able to beat most bosses besides Delirium consistently. (With some characters lol)
Honestly bro if you dont care about completion percentage I would just go for it on PS you never know you may just surprise yourself like I did, I genuinely never thought I would get the plat
Hey umm, I noticed you didn't talk about the dlc characters (at least as far as I am into the video) it feels like that should be a MASSIVE MASSIVE piece of info as to getting this game 100%ed
Haha yeah this video was specifically looking at the Vanilla Platinum side of things as so many people put the game down when they find out the dlc locks out the plat.
Y’know on Pc (given that you use steam workshop mods) it can be a lot easier to get Dead God (The platinum for the newest DLC) sense there’s mods like External item description (mod that basically makes it so you don’t need to go to Platinum god and give you an explanation in to corner of the screen as to what an item does and if it overrides another item) along with Dead God helper mod which shows you what items you’ve not picked up yet- but yeah it’s still a P a i n, coming from a Triple dead god player
Damn that does sound incredibly useful, I haven't played on PC or tried any mods but if things like that exist it would help alot with knowledge. Good to know for anyone in the comments that does play on PC thanks for the insight mate
I think I just died a little inside and I can hear the distinct sound of someone screaming or crying .... odd. Haha on a serious note that legit scares me like to an insane degree
I don't think it is that hard. Complete 11 floors with each character twice with the negative/polaroid...beat Boss Rush with each character....beat all 20 Challenges and do all that on Hard Mode until you unlock all the collectibles. It's just a grind rather than super hard. I'm currently almost there after 300 hours and it's very enjoyable. I have no DLC.
Oh its definitely enjoyable and that is likely what's helping with you feeling the way you do I imagine those that don't enjoy it as much though may feel differently. It was mainly The Lost and SMB/BG that made it feel as hard for me
I havent looked through all the comments but idk a lot about rebirth but imagine getting infinitey percent which is gettign dead god on all 3 save files of repentance is a LOT worse than just the platinum but i do believe its not needef for it
@@crimsonpurgatory93 personally I got the game like I wanna say 3 months ago and it's all over the place and I'm no were close to even halfway done with itand I have to do it 2 more times after this 😭
I am currently trying to unlock death certificate and I am so close to getting it but I am on tainted lost right now which is regular lost but way harder.
I got dead god earlier this year, I think the most helpful synergy for me with Tainted Lost was probably 4.5 volt and book of shadows. If your damage is high enough it makes the boss fights a breeze if you can survive the normal rooms. Best of luck!
imagine having fun in the video game and not trying to get 100% for a digital trophy that you can swing around saying that you have spent way too much on a game
Oh I know what you mean haha as the video suggests I genuinely didn't think I could get the platinum on this game I kinda just got lucky during the time I was editing etc. There are plenty of games I will refuse to go for the trophies in and just play to enjoy the game, I just saw a video opportunity to share some of my hellish experience with people. But you are right a game should be enjoyed first and foremost as a game.
@crimsonpurgatory93 Yeah, I was mostly joking, but I def agree that the lost with holy mantle makes him more bearable to play. Tainted lost is a different story, lol.
Afterbirth plus is the easiest dlc also why do you play without visuals on stats. ez game if you have patience and skill because it doesn't just rely on rng
isaac on consoles are way inferior to STEAM tboi. i got deadgod on 1 of my files and nearly deadgod on the other 2. qof mods such as eid made the game a lot more enjoyable for me
It's unfortunate you feel that way, the reason ai was used in this thumbnail is because my friend who helps me with the thumbnails said the existing material for characters weren't the best quality, and we wanted to avoid fan made versions due to potential copyright. They felt like we had no choice in this one to do a decent thumbnail apologies that it turned you off the vid
@@crimsonpurgatory93 I probably have over a 1000 hours on playstation 4 just to have 100%'d the afterbirth+ dlc (not even including the 600 hours on steam). Just have to remember this is my favorite game of all time and I love it
Ohhh lol my bad haha. Yeah for lovers of the game I fully agree with you but it was more a warning for trophy hunters, unfortunately a large amount of the community lacks patience.
Great video mate. As you know, I’ve been thinking about playing it. I might still go for it at some point but, again you know me, I’d need to get that 100% 🫣
