Flutter mane is like letting a kid drive a car you know it’s going to end badly.

As someone who has Misdreavus as one of their top favorites of all time and whose favorite types are ghost followed by fairy, I see Flutter Mane as a 10/10 Pokémon in every metric imaginable.

Fluttermane and Goldengo are big reasons why I think Pursuit needs to be added back to the game, just not to Kinggambit.

Misdreavus is in my top 10 favorite Pokemon. Seeing Flutter Mane for the first time was already cool enough, and then they made it overpowered on top of that and I love it!

the absense of scrappy fake-out users such as pre-mega mega kanga and mega lopunny as well as the fact that there is currently no good STAB bullet punch user in the meta (metagross maybe, but its not that great) both exascerbate the issues. And with both farigiraf AND psychic terrain being viable as well as regulation G dropping soon, Flutter Mane stonks have been better than ever. But hey, at least it doesn't hit through protect...

"Prefixes are power" is so true. My friend and I were struggling with a raid earlier, 6 star flying sinistcha. Then I remembered... Oh yeah we both have Miraidon. (135 base special attack + 100 base power) × 1.3 electric terrain × 1.3 hadron engine × 2 for being super effective × 1.5 for STAB × 1.3 for Electro Drift's boosted damage on superwffective hits

There’s a reason my flutter is almost always called Goober or War Criminal on smogon teams

Mystical Fire for Steels Psyshock for Poison types (and Special Walls) Power Gem for Fire types Energy Ball and Thunderbolt for bulky Water types Icy Wind for Speed control And that’s without considering Taunt, Trick Room, Perish Song, Calm Mind, Substitute, Thunder Wave, or Sunny Day. Aside from Physical bulk, the main thing holding it back is four moveslot syndrome. The most common set is Moonblast, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, and Protect - running none of the coverage or support options I listed.

The problem is more so the meta game. The VGC meta game leans towards the physical side a lot, so having something as strong as Fluttermane just means the slot for SpA mons on your teams gets cannibalized.

Gen8-9 doesn't just show low quality in their engine, framerate and graphics. The last few games had these terribly broken pokemon and VGC lacking any proper competitive rulesets and tiers speaks volumes of how incompetent Nintendo-GameFreak are at managing and developing this frenchise.

I think the problem is partially the fairy type itself, partially Moonblast as a move, partially the dual typing of Fairy/Ghost, partially the insanely high speed and special attack, partially the fact that it's low bulk can be invested in because it's so naturally threatening, partially that it gets even stronger in the sun, partially that it can hold any number of various items for even more destruction...

Maybe they'll redirect some points from those 135 stats to make the others 65 instead of 55 to make it's stat spread less extreme and force players to have to invest in it's spettack and speed instead of bulk? Unlikely as hell but they can't outright lower it's total due to every Paradox having either 570 or 590.

The spiky scaley dinosaur version of Misdreavus gaining the Fairy type of all types really goes to show where GF's priorities were when making this pokemon

I love Flutter Mane in VGC because for how absurdly splashable and crazy it is, it doesn’t feel anywhere near dominating at a top level because it’s physically frail in a physically dominant meta and gets beaten by a lot of top tier Pokémon anyways. It’s why when you watch finals matches of regionals, you are less likely to see Flutter Mane being brought to games and why Incineroar and Urshifu seem to often top it in day 2 usage. It’s a great Pokémon, but one you can’t afford to make a mistake with.

I feel like we need a type that hits Fairy for weakness and hits Steel and Ghost at least neutrally. Because if the past few years have taught me anything about the Fairy type, it's that it's the new Dragon type. Incredibly powerful with few checks.

Sometimes, I feel like they gave the design job for the past paradox mons to a really enthusiastic 10 year old, and then gave the future paradoxes to.. well... Whoever was out of the office last.

Don't like power creep? Play gen 1-3. The game continues to grow and see larger and larger events because more people than not like the "broken" mons that are being added.

I've been playing on the 3 vs 3 singles on-cart ladder lately to get my Pokemon the Rank Master ribbon, and that format has the same legality list as VGC. I thought that since it's a singles format without all the Smogon bans, it would be unbalanced to the point of being unplayable, but that's not entirely true. There's kind of a "broken checks broken" vibe with stuff like Chi-Yu, Chien-Pao, Annihilape, Urshifu, Duraludon, etc. And when they only have 2 other team mates to support them rather than 5, they can be more manageable. Flutter Mane, however, is just on a whole other level. It is broken even among the other broken mons. It is so optimized that it might as well be a Restricted Legendary. It's insane how broken this thing is in both singles and doubles lol

Honestly surprised they made a Ghost/Fairy type this overtuned without trying to make Fire/Normal or Poison/Normal Pokemon that's actually relevant. Pyroar is the most misdesigned Pokemon ever and Grafaiai just doesn't have the stats to keep up.

I just thought it was interesting since mythical are getting way easier to obtain now especially with Pokémon like melotta and pecharunt. I think the only somewhat good to good mythical Pokémon are mew,jirachi,pecharunt,arceus,and deoxys.

Feels a bit close-minded and presumptuous to act like the designers at GF made Flutter Mane solely with the intention of being "balanced" for competitive; there's probably a TON of other reasons/intentions for Flutter Mane to exist as it is, especially since it's clear that few people actually believe that it's balanced. Personally, Flutter Mane is a REALLY fitting Paradox Form of Misdreavus; not only does it mirror the pattern of the latter and Mismagius's stat spread, but the Fairy typing it incredibly fitting for a form of Misdreavus, I'd argue even more so than with Mimikyu! I also can't help but disagree with the idea that it shouldn't have the Ghost/Fairy type because of it's high stats; if the type fits the Pokémon in the eyes of the designers, than that's all that matters. I'm not trying to argue that Flutter Mane is balanced in competitive; it's prevalence in VGC events and the banhammers its earned in Smogon formats make it clear that it's incredibly oppressive and centralizing in a lot of metagames. However, the attitude towards Gamefreak for its existence feels out-of-touch and crass, because Pokémon is about way more than just competitive aspect; Pokémon like Zacian-Crowned, Calyrex-Shadow, and Miraidon exist for the ideas and stories that can be told with them in the casual game/anime/etc., or maybe even for as simple a reason as being cool, appealing, or just generally unique. You could argue this is also why competitively bad Pokémon exist, because they don't exist FOR the sake of competition in any way! I think this is important to acknowledge as a participant in the Pokémon ecosystem, to hopefully encourage more thoughtful and engaging conversations and less snark and passive-aggressiveness at Gamefreak for not making something entirely to the liking of your specific niche of the community. Hoping for nerfs or some other balancing factor is fine in my opinion; just don't act so high and mighty towards the people responsible for this game's existence, especially if you're going to pretend competitive is all that matters for Pokémon.

Flutter Mane as a concept is what they should have done for Misdreavus and Mismagius: added fairy type, maybe a few utility options, Levitate. as it is now, it feels like a joke someone took seriously and didn't realize it until it was too late

As someone not in competitive, it seems to me that probably the easiest way to nerf fluttermane would be a drastic reduction in movepool. It’d still be good, but more predictable and could reduce utility. Another possibility, since all paradox mons are stuck at 570 and its stats are forced to mirror Misdreavus’ spread, is rearrange its stat. Could be even more minmaxed. Make it so a not very effective move would destroy its entire existence, or make it more evenly distributed, but still with similar spread. That runs the risk of it being too bulky on both sides The most drastic change would be changing its type, like Ghost/Flying considering its Dex entry compares it to a pterosaur.
