Shawn Fougere, is a police officer living with PTSD. We had a chance to sit down with Shawn and Kal to learn more about the special bond they share.
We were honoured to have had the opportunity to share this video during our time at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics this past July. Each year thought leaders from around the globe and across disciplines come together in beautiful Oxford, England to discuss different elements of animal ethics. This year the theme focused on humane education and we were thrilled to share Shawn’s story as a shining example of the interconnectedness of the well-being between humans and animals.

Thank you for sharing your amazing story. I totally know where are coming from, I was a career Paramedic and went down a similar rabbit hole. My service dog has been a game changer. Thank you for your service Sir.

So cool how they find dogs and humans that fit together like that based on their personalities. Glad you're feeling better! 😊

Its good to see another fellow officer that has a PTSD service dog. I've had mine for 9 years before she passed. Now I have a 2 year old German Shepherd Husky mix.

Thank you Sir, I really need a service dog. I felt bad about having a dog in a small apartment but my friend reminded me that a shelter dogs life is a small cage and then death. I guess a small apartment is better than that. This would change my life... wow

UPDATE: Ive had my Sophie since February. She has been my constant companion through this Pandemic. The three walks a day are my relax and chill time. I walk and listen to the birds and look at the squirrels. 100% unconditional love at all times. My PTSD symptoms have dramatically improved. Best treatment EVER.

@@Whoa802 nope, but Ive bad my (ESA) dog for a year. Its been the best step Ive ever taken in healing. Ive lost 11 pounds. Get and hour of exercise a day and play with my dog all throughout the day. It has done wonders for my depression and anxiety. (especially during lockdown)
