What part of the portrait photography process do you find to be the most difficult? Let me know below and I'll address it in my upcoming videos!

so what was the advantage of using a lantern here compared to a softbox?

Bro! Did you watch the fight last weekend? What did you think about that counter left to the body?
@BokushingusKendoTV

Btw, I switched to wall, ceiling & V-flat bounce in my studio when doing a set or commercial fashion shoot. For portrait’s & headshot, just using a simple 30” softbox feathered.

Sure did watch the fight! The hook to the body wasn't the hardest one I've ever seen. I think Ryan has quit in him unfortunately. I'd be hesitant to buy another PPV of his but I enjoyed the match!

@@MiguelQuilesJr I think he just need more experience. He got way too close to Davis. I think In 2 years, It will be a good rematch.

I have a question. I am trying to reduce set up time in the studio and on location. I started using a light meter because people like Gavin Hoey make it look fast and easy but I am not fully convinced it speeds things up for me when I am trying to get it in the ballpark. Perhaps it is because Gavin has experience and already knows the ballpark and uses a light meter to reaffirm what he already knows. Anyway I I have an older cheap LED light but it gets so hot inside the bowens soft-box that I am afraid it will cook my cheap Glow modifiers and reduce their life span. You said you have a high powered led, was it on full power and are you concerned with heat? I was thinking that LEDs might decrease my setup time because they are what you see is what you get. But I rather not spend more money while I have a number of battery studio strobes already. If LED will not help me set up faster or they cook the softbox, I don't want to spend more money.

Great question! Personally, I don't use a light meter all that often to do the work that I do, but there are times where it comes in handy. I would much rather take a photo, look at it and see if its what I like, and make adjustments from there. I might make a full video about this soon, but that's the short answer. As for the power levels here, I think I had the Pavotubes at full power and the 720b was likely at around 40% or so. These LED lights don't generate much heat, and I actually use the 720b to light my videos for hours and hours every day without issues. Your modifiers should fair just fine. Hope that helps!

the more you work with your kit the more you will know what it can do with any given light mod at working distances and power levels. it may not be that much quicker with constant lights, but hold onto it if you ever want to play with studio strobes.

@@cecilsharps Thanks, I plan to keep my stobes and continue to use them. I am getting better and faster with them. When I shoot, I set them up ahead of time which works great but if I have to change lighting location and number of lights, that is when it takes me a long time and the model is just sitting there waiting, and it may not bother her or may, but it bothers me and if I rush, I make mistakes and it takes even longer. Sometimes seem like it takes eternity and it may be I have to take 6 test shots and change the light location. If I am adding background color or a color kicker. Last shoot I blew the red channel with a kicker, lucky it was short series of shot then I changed my set up. That sort of thing is what I am hoping a light meter would prevent, if I would just force myself to use the lightmeter..

@@IAmR1ch don't forget to breathe. the only person you have to please is your client. If i'm your client i'm paying to get your best i don't care how long it takes. If you are the client take your time get it right. You are there to create not entertain. you may pay the talent by the hour but really they are only working in 1/125th second increments. who cares if they are bored the other moments in a second, or a minute or 10. You only need to care about that 1/125th second that you pressed the shutter button. use the rest of the time to get it right. If your shoots demand frequent location jumps and you can't efficiently transition multi light setups then simplify your setups. I go rube goldberg on lighting, but there is an elegance in a simple solution i am rediscovering. Your work product is more important than the talent's level of entertainment when your futzing with the lights. just get over it do your thing and make great art. it is more important to make the client happy with your work product than entertained when they are sitting for you.
