This preacher delivered a sermon all about how horrible I am 

Being condemned by a crackpot preacher is a badge of honor.

There is nothing so hateful as christian love.

I'm hugely old now (approaching 80!). Many, many years ago, long before youtube and long before the internet, a friend and I were discussing ideas about ways to make money, that could be fitted around our careers and other important committments. We decided that starting up some sort of 'radio broadcast' salvation church would be a simply brilliant idea, but - although we did some serious research into commercial broadcasting licences etc - we could not bring ourselves to actually do anything about it, because it would've been nothing more or less than lies and deception; taking money under false pretences was not something either of us were interested in. Not long after that, we started hearing about these weird 'pastors' in the US who had their own radio stations, mansions, jets etc and felt that although we'd missed out on a golden opportunity, we'd kept our integrity, which was far more important to us in the longer term.

As a disabled person and an astrophysicist, I'd love to tell this guy who the "idiot" in this situation is

Being personally condemned by a hate preacher is an achievement I think all atheists should strive for. Nice work Hemant, keep it up.

My favorite part of the Bible was when Jesus delivered an hour-long sermon about his petty grievances regarding some guy over the internet.

It's painful to imagine how he behaves at home, how he treats his wife and kids. So much hate, so much anger, so little love and compassion.

He has to constantly resort to ad hominem attacks because that's all he has, and he's pissed at you because you expose him as the bigot that he is. What you're doing is very important, because you're exposing these religious fascists.

His lack of self awareness is actually breathtaking, as Dusty always says "Every accusation is a confession".

They hate you because, unlike most atheist youtubers, you actually comment on politics and news. Bring some real life examples to the whole religion debate - and that's dangerous for religious extremists.

When these preachers talk about you that’s when you know you are winning the struggle. You have more followers and more cultural impact than they do.

When I was growing up an atheist and an A student throughout school, I was well aware that my Christian family members, who were always spouting the atheists-are-stupid line, struggled to get C’s and an occasional B and never made it past high school. I have since discovered that demographics consistently show that across America, religiosity within a community is inversely proportional to the level of educational attainment within that community.

This man disgusts me. He never grew out of being a middle school bully, and he believes he has divine backing.

He tells his audience atheists are stupid because he is complementing them by telling them how smart they are. It helps them to feel good about themselves. Such smugness.

Maaaannnn! Throughout her life, my grandmother (rest her soul) did everything that Jesus was said to have consistently called on his followers to do: helped those who were in need, avoided judging others to the best of her considerable abilities, welcomed those who others rejected, fed the poor, helped the sick... you know, behaved like others mattered. She was also an avid reader of... everything, really. And, yes, she believed profoundly in the power of prayer to comfort herself and others when times were tough. What she almost never did, though, was darken the door of any of the "Christian" churches where she lived. Why? Because she didn't have a lick of use for "ministers" like this Shelley dude: the type who claims to be working "in the name of Jesus Christ", while spewing hate like a busted fire hose filled with dirty oil. He and other "ministers" like him are precisely why people with any thinking ability at all are, if not coming to see atheism as sensible, are leaving "Christian" churches--including the "Evangelical" sort--in droves. Which, yeah, has to be seriously scaring these small-time con men who want to be Joel Osteen, Franklin Graham, or Jerry Falwell, Jr., when they grow up.

What a great, non-judgmental Christian that guy is. He just oozes love and acceptance. 🙄

Actually this atheist served his country (UK) for 23 years and was extremely fit so I did more for my country than any preacher or priest.

It doesn't take intelligence to make the leap of faith from reality to "I have a magic book, and if you don't like it, you're wrong, and bad". It just takes the ability to believe in magic books.

Religious people are often willfully ignorant, but that doesn't mean they're stupid. The smart ones can be really good at rationalizing their beliefs in ways that sound convincing, if you're not a critical thinker. This guy is NOT one of the smart ones🙄

This has been a major exercise in projection. The things that the pastor claimed about you, he demonstrates in his own sermons. You are a mirror of things he has to work out on himself. Your humor about your parents feeding him the script is hilarious. I honor you for your work. Those with ears will hear. Anyone in that movement, especially women get the sense that something is very wrong in those churches, and being able to hear a different point of view is helpful in processing, and forming an escape plan.

You are refreshingly factual and I would miss you. We, the viewers, have your back.

Also, I love how these guys constantly claim anyone who supports trans people must be anti-science, when the science is what initially convinced me that my old, ignorant, bigoted Christian beliefs on the matter were wrong (as for being a Christian overall, the Bible is what convinced me that was also wrong). Science *overwhelmingly* supports the existence and legitimacy of trans people. The average conservative can't understand that, because (as pointed out in this video) they don't understand the scientific process or its value at all. As Neil deGrasse Tyson says, when scientists sit down to debate an issue, they come with the mindset of "Either I'm right, or you're right, or we're both wrong." People like the pastor in this video come to a conversation saying, "I'm right, you're wrong, and you'll burn in hell if you keep disagreeing with me." Gee, I wonder which of those stances is more anti-science, anti-knowledge, etc?

The minister is projecting. He talks about no one liking anything, and that is exactly what he is doing. He is confessing his own sins, but putting it on to someone else.

My favorite bible verse is the one where Jesus says "Love thy neighbor as thyself...unless they are an atheist and then you should insult them every way you can." So loving!

15:08 I just want to say that I would miss you, Hemant Mehta. When I came around to figuring out I'd been lied to all my life and that the bible was undeniably false, at least in part, and deconverted, I was hit with a wave of self-doubt and had to ask myself who I really was at my core. While I didn't start watching content creators like yourself until after I already had figured this out about the bible, I soon found myself wanting more answers about the world at large, and such atheist content creators helped me de-program a lot of the beliefs I still somewhat internally held without realizing it. Religious trauma goes deep.

That people actually listen to this person (Shelley) explains so much about America.

Speaking as a Christian I would say that you are friendly enough. I disagree with your atheism, but you seem to get most of the other things right. I'm horrified by what many Christians do and say, and I'm grateful when folk like you point it out, and you do it so fairly and well. I haven't watched many of your Biblical criticism vids, but I personally reckon that such things can be helpful regardless of what one does or doesn't believe.

I like how this preacher looks, sounds and has the energy of a stoner giving a class presentation. I’m looking out the window just listening to him for 5 seconds.

Atheist artist and musician here. I used to be a very "spiritual" woo believer and I thought at one point (due to a sample size of 1) that "atheists probably didn't believe in god because they are ugly". Yeah that was really dumb, and I actually look a little better now because I couldn't kick poor habits like drinking and eating cheeseburgers until after I became an atheist. Something about feeling "fated" to have substance abuse and self control issues turns out to be related to neurodivergent traits and there seem to be ways to get myself more productive and healthier although it's still a struggle. Though I did deconvert from being an evangelical around age 20, it took me a long time to get rid of the bad thinking I learned in church. TL;DR - it's been a long road but leaving god beliefs behind has made my life so so much better. And I care very much that Hemant Mehta is still around!!

Inside he asked the guard why most of those before and after him were turned away. "We don't accept priests, preachers, church leaders, and those who cling to their guns and bibles. They can adapt more to life in hell than in heaven."

I have completed a trade (plumber) and also gained a degree in IT at university. I am also an atheist. As part of my journey to question the claim there is a god, I have become better at critical thinking, exposed to areas of science I never thought about before and really enjoy. A very good point about the scientific process. There are scientists who are testing everything their predecessors said, with a Nobel prize at stake. That alone is enough for me.

Speaking as a transgender person raised in the church, this kind of resilient ignorance can have frightening effects on the actions I see in the real world.
