How did we end up here?
After living off grid in an RV full time for a few years, we decided build a self-sufficient homestead to meet all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of our current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements.

This is going to make such a big difference when the hot weather arrives. Really glad that we decided to tackle this as our rainy week project...notice how I didn't say rainy day? 🤣...there were a few times where I thought we'd never get this finished but so happy with how it turned out. What do you think of the style? Can't believe how well the blades watch the cedar beams!

That is a serious fan, Tyler! As an old lifelong homeowner, I can say you just can't hire anybody to do a 'small' job like that. I appreciate every aspect of it, having taken down a fan/light and replaced it with a light. 25 years ago that meant emailing back and forth with the guys on the Do-it-Yourself website. No videos.

There is nothing like a project that doesn't go as planned to have people running out of patience with each other. It is misplaced anger and frustration but it is a reality with any big project. Some days we love our partner and some days we really think we hate them, but when the project is completed, everything is good again colored by a lot of respect for working through all the frustrations to achieve the desired goal.

1-800 Tyler the fan man!!! Well I'm a fan of the fan man and his husband. Y'all are the best. I completely agree that when one is frustrated and overwhelmed (and high on a scaffold) it's very wise to walk away, get some rest. So many times I've when I wake up with a new perspective, an answer to the problem has magically appeared.

I am so proud of you guys. The way you tackle projects head on. I, too, am afraid of heights. Been all my life, I'm 77. When my husband died, I was on my own for many things that had to be done. Bite the bullet and get up the ladder to reprogram the garage door opener. (work shop, very tall ceiling). Your house is so beautiful, because of your talents. Love and prayers from NC, USA.

My hats off to you, Tyler. If that had been me installing the fan. That third day I would have ripped it out of the ceiling. Bent the pipe in two a pretzel. And broken the fan into tiny pieces. You, sir, have the patient of a Saint. Todd can't believe how you kept your cool and helped Tyler control his fear and anger. The fan looks great by the way.

While this was a little difficult to watch. it was very refreshing to some of the "behind the scenes interaction. Many of us think it is all roses and rainbows with you, or any relationship. It is refreshing to see the unedited parts, where there are challenges. Always wishing the best for both of you. When I was a kid my parents started a 2 day floor fix by the toilet in our only bathroom. Turned into a month long complete bathroom reno with us staying with grandparents for the entire time. Things always take longer then you think it will. LOL

You did impressively well on your scaffolding dealing with your fear of heights. My husband does lighting design for a community theatre. He can no longer go up and down scaffolding, so I go up to set the lights for him. Lying down on the scaffold is brilliant. I usually just sit. I'll follow your lead next time he's rolling me around way above the stage!

Great job! This will save you a ton of utility usage in the winter by circulating all of the warm air that would otherwise just pool up near the ceiling back down and throughout the house.

hanging ceiling fans is not easy, but it does get easier every time you hang a new one. You did great. The next one will be better.

What about a few rotating wall fans from the sides? You get them in a sanded brass/rose gold that wil fit in with the colour of the wood.

Tyler, sorry this project stressed you out a little but the fan is gorgeous. Great work! My husband just recently put up a new fan with a remote control. He’d never installed a fan like this and he caught h-l with it. Putting all those wires inside the box was a chore for him. Actually, we had to buy two fans because he dropped the first one and it bent (trying to hold up box or whatever you call it where all the wires are). The blades and lights had not been put in. But we thought the second fan was the same as the first (it looked the same) but it wasn’t. The model number was a number off. So he had to add all the wiring all over again. Luckily, he got the second fan up. Love this fan. It’s so quiet. The other fans we have have the pull chains and this one is remote-controlled.
