When I first clicked on this video I thought it was a high production company, like Donut, came to realize this channel is so underrated! When car enthusiasts come across this channel I can’t imagine they’d have an early exit. Keep going bro! This video was amazing!

i know this kind of thing is said very often, but i think it needs to be said. your content is insanely underrated. the editing isnt so much, but its enough to keep your attention super well, as well as the camera angles plus the drone footage giving a lot of good views. more on topic to the video itself though, the use of a hellcat is very different but also make sense. big, heavy, and powerful. that ultimate in low control really teaches you how to handle a car, cause once youve tamed a dragon, taming a wolf doesnt seem like so much. great video overall, bravo.

My recommended feed has sent me another gem. I'd be considered ancient if I tried to go the traditional route of getting into racing leagues and getting the necessary licenses but something like this (though farther away from me compared to other SCCA options after checking) is far more affordable at the end of the day considering the plans I've got for the car I started driving on and the dream car I hope to some day get and build as well. While a bid to run at Pikes Peak isn't likely for us average joes, I know that a school like this would at least help my chances given I do at least want to make a strong effort in getting to drive my favorite hillclimb course not as a tourist, but as a competitor.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes this place is awesome. I’ve done 10+ track days and while seat time is great, quality seat time is best! This was just an appetizer compared to what a full day or multi-day course would be. So you’re building a car now or currently racing it locally?

@@brendandrives I apologize for the wall of text I've ended up with but the long term plan that I've developed over the past 4-5yrs is turning my trusty MK4 New Beetle TDI (just shy of 200k miles on it) into something it probably should never end up as 😆(and as I've decided to coin it, the "Yeetle"). Trying to finish up college and other issues from these past few years hasn't been easy, and with the JDM car supply/demand doubling the price of the cars I still hope to one day acquire, that led my free time to looking into the diesel modified scene along with what could be done with a New Beetle TDI in terms of a sleeper aspect (given there's not much of a market for New Beetle TDI performance mods to begin with and the ALH platform isn't necessarily performance oriented... and we just keep fending off the rust as per usual with the VW MK4s since that'll do them in before the engine gives up if properly maintained). Initially it was just wanting to get a large single turbo setup through the trusty VNT17 and calling it a day... then I just started digging a deeper and deeper hole as I had grown heavily invested into Pikes Peak. 3yrs ago I found out about Greg and Boxeer and their compound turbo VW Beetle TDI that they built to chase after the Diesel WR at Pikes Peak and that filled in some knowledge gaps on pairing of turbos for a compound setup along with other educational videos on YT. Some more digging led me to the Jeep Rock Crawler community of all places since they apparently like swapping in the small but efficient, old VW 4cylinder turbo diesels into their crawlers since they're quite affordable and offer plenty of space in the engine bay to work on. They had an extensive index of compound turbo builds of all kinds and filled in more gaps. Looking across the pond I eventually found DarksideDevelopments who offer a plethora of performance parts for the ALH that I simply can't get in the United States and some which will be a necessity long term with a compound setup (such as a billet block). After further digging in Fred'sTDI forums, I found out that the Finns have been throwing boost at the ALH for ages just for fun and had enough sources and tales of reliably getting the stock block up to ~330HP before it ran the risk of grenading itself (was hard to believe if google translate was being accurate enough since I don't know any Finnish) so with all those findings in mind, that had me set on either start with a big single turbo setup to learn tuning on then move to compound, or just go straight to compound since the market won't stay around forever on these old TDI Beetles that weren't supposed to be performance oriented in the first place. Over the years as OEM parts have given up or just needed replacing so I, along with my Dad, have been replacing with mostly just slight improvements to OEM such as an adapter for going from the 2 & 3/8" stock exhaust to 2.5" performance CAT and 2.5" catback exhaust from Kerma TDI, an adjustable Bilstein suspension kit when the OEM gave out after 13yrs (along with replacing every moving component underneath since the car would be up in the air already), a new head (which was forced unfortunately) when one of the sparkplugs decided it should end up where it shouldn't be (still don't know how on that one, but it cost 3 months in a shop and a custom head being machined since we were already going to be without it for long enough), an upgrade to ceramic brake discs and rotors (not slotted or drilled, but still something over stock) and past that just generally keeping up with the engine maintenance and a singular timing belt so far on it. So getting back to the point, haven't had the time afforded nor money available yet to start working on things but the plan is to pair a GBC-300 to feed a G25-660 and be aiming for as close as it'll get to the only aftermarket con-rods for the car (FCP Engineering H-Beam) which are rated for 600HP. I don't think I'll actually get to that number without the help of NOS, but I'm leaving that for the very end of things for when there's nothing else left to do since I'd rather not dabble with that right out of the gate given the trials already in place with a compound turbo setup being in the mix and just the platform in general being sent well beyond what it ever reliably has been with racing in mind. Colt will be where I go for the camshaft, South Bend for the clutch, and still haven't figured out the best option for a differential to handle all that is just hopefully planned nor how it'll all cram into the engine bay (nor how I'm going to find or adapt injectors to support the hopeful power output since only options that'll work stock are only good for ~220HP) and before all is said and done, plan to take it to a friend in PA for a roll cage since he's been dirt track racing for decades and knows a thing or two about fitting cages into a variety of cars. Past all of this text wall though, I'm considering SCCA after Rob Dahm's video explaining that he was denied the first time he applied to race at Pikes Peak for a lack of racing experience and while there's certainly nothing on their paperwork requiring experience, it makes sense why they'd deny even him of all people even though some would argue just look at all he's done and how knowledgeable he is with his cars, he'd be fine (which is still far different from actually getting out on a track and racing with others or just time trialing and learning the limits of your car). I'm not sure the Yeetle in any state would be legal at SCCA events so I'm taking this as a take a few steps back from the absurd long term idea, and take a few smaller steps first to build up a good reason as to why I should have a decent bid when I and the car are ready to put our hat in the ring should life let me get to such a point where it's affordable (SCCA while costly at the end of the day for anyone, would at least also be a fresh outlet for my love of cars and racing, and perhaps introduce me to some new people that I could learn from as well). Sorry for the wall of text, just heavily invested in something that most people wouldn't want to bother with in the first place (and didn't even have an answer for what I'd want to pick up for SCCA events😆).

Dude so sorry I never responded to this! It’s awesome you have such big plans. I personally have no idea what the requirements are to participate at Pikes Peak but assume as a driver you’d need to have a Competition Racing License (aka comp license) to run. Those can be pursued a number of ways. SCCA is one, I have experience driving with NASA as another great organization.

All of the stuff they are wanting you to learn , in terms of car control, I can learn with a fox body with around 1/4 of the horsepower. You don’t need 800 horsepower to learn car control let alone 400. 200 to 300 horsepower is plenty to learn with in a muscle car or a pony car. It’s also a lot better to learn in your own car as you’ll learn it’s limits for when the time is needed for it

Totally agreed! Most of my car control comes from cars with under 200 HP!! But these are extremely entertaining. (Plus idk what settings were on in the cars, so maybe we were only at 500hp? Idk)
