A trick to listen for the pump running in the gas tank is to take the cap off, then put a funnel in it, have the other person only turn the key to "On" not trying to start it, have your ear placed to the funnel at this time. It will act like a megaphone and make it easier to hear, for those of us that are not as good at hearing as we used to be! Good luck, brother! I am waiting on parts to come in to keep working on my 1997 Explorer.

@KevinVenturePhilippines Toughest part of it was removal of the O ring. Tapping it with screw driver & Sledge. Saw a video individual broke his. So be careful. If I can do it anyone can. Good luck.

Most of the times relays are different, overall the gas pump relay....

You can do anything you decide to, and it was a great video!

Neil Williams Mine is doing that as well. Runs and idles good.

It can also have 12v but just be clogged or have a clogged sock, line etc.

a21bravo right, just sayin that the GM fuel pump designs of this era of vehicles was VERY prone to burning up prematurely. Escalade, Silverado, Sierra, Yukon, etc used either the same or similar pumps in the early to mid 2000's. Great video by the way. Well explained.

Hmmm... Sounds like it may be getting too much fuel when cranking... Is the coolant temp sensor reading right? Sometimes if sensor is bad is thinks it's cold and adds too much fuel.

@BlaserBuilds that's one of the things I've considered because once I idle say 5 minutes it's good to go even after driving 20 minutes turn off go in grocery store 30 to 40 minutes it starts right up. It tends to do it after sitting all night or after getting off work 🙃 wanna fix it but can't afford to be a parts changer lol ?? I have a 1987 2.8L s10 blazer and have been chasing a poor running condition and long start up situation. From swapping out old gas to replacing the fuel filter...not much changed. I needed to clean the two fuel injectors and partially rebuild the tbi carb. This made running and acceleration much better, but I still have a difficult time starting the vehicle. I am in the process of checking the fuel pump relay and possibly putting a gas line check valve in the fuel line close to the tank. I don't think the relay is giving the right signal to the pump at start up for the 3 to 9 second pump prior to full start or the check valve in the gas pump allows the fuel to run all the way back to the tank after the vehicle has sat over night. I am swapping out the relays today to see if there is a change there before the gas check valve replacement.

Might be a clogged filter. Pump is running or it wouldn't have fuel.

@@manishk3693 I did actually! Removed the top manifold to inspect the fuel injectors. One of the fuel injector pigtails had exposed wiring that was making contact with the manifold, causing it to short out and preventing any fuel injector from firing. Nothing a little heat shrink wrap couldn't fix. Runs now! 👍

I have a 91 Camaro everything has been changed and it will start off ether and run like shit for a few minutes and that's it. Then out of the blue it will fire up and run perfect and you can drive it a couple weeks then one day I turned it off at a gas pump and problem started all over again. That's what I'll do look for a short out wire on injector. Thanks man

I've a 2009 Volvo 70 d5 and I have to hit the tank whilst starting the car when it doesn't start , I've changed the relays and I've changed the fuel pump twice , when i changed the fuel filters they are clean every time I've change them , what could be causing my problem it seems like the pump is going again but something must be causing the pumps to go bad 😕 any help would be appreciated because I'm at a loss for ideas and money 😂

I know this is 2 yrs old but may help someone else. When a check valve goes bad, the fuel system loses pressure over time. If that happens it takes time to build pressure back up. If the car has lost fuel pressure, turn the key to run, not start, and the pump will run a little. Turn back off, then on, wait, off, on and wait. Each time will gain a little pressure. Try start after 3 or 4 cycles. You will learn how many times it takes. Eventually you need to fix it.
