U r SO right! Many people r unaware that many essential oils, not just citrus, can cause severe sensitivity especially when exposed to sunlight.....BEWARE!!!

Exactly, also, even if the zone isn’t exposed, it is still one of the most irritating things for us with sensitive skin and multiple allergies. I really don’t get why they keep using these ingredients for skincare products when they should not be there in the first place.

This. This. This. Essential oils are SO concentrated and SO strong. E.g. it took me a whole 5x5ft rosemary bush to make 6ml of rosemary essential oil. Aside from how unsustainable that is (because people do harvest and create sustainably eg Evan Healy etc), but the medicine of these plants is where we get A LOT of actual medicine. It's not just pretty background scents and they're not to be underestimated in their strength to cause changes in the body. One of my favorite herbalists on here (sheofthewoods) calls essential oils poison... I don't know if I would go that far but they are definitely not benign.

Robert Welsh touches on this in a couple of his videos... He says it can be good to match them up, like wearing water based primers with water based foundation and so on. But what it really comes down to is how good you are about doing proper skincare all the time, not just right before wearing makeup, because having a really good skincare routine can make or break how makeup is going to look on you. And it depends on your skin in general and figuring out what products work best for you and your skin type. Alex touches on this as well... That we are all so individual, each of us is so different when it comes to our skin type, and where we live plays into it as well, that it is nearly impossible to making sweeping recommendations for people based on the ingredients in products. You just have to try different ones and figure out what works best for you. You can find RU-vidrs that have very similar skin type as yours, and use what they find works for them as a starting point. For instance I look for those that are in their late 30s or early 40s (I'll be 40 in May) and have dry skin that seems too look fairly similar to mine without makeup on. And then once I find a product that seems to work well for them and I think will work for me, I will then find someone else that is reviewing the product or whatever and it looks like they have very close to the same color skintone as me, so I can get a good idea of what shade I would need/want in the product. Because I very rarely find someone who has super dry skin as well as a light nuetral olive skin tone. But unless you live in the same exact climate as they do, are the same exact age as them with the same hormonal things going on, and are doing a very similar skincare routine as they are, there is always going to be some differences. So that is why they often don't specify how certain products are going to look based on if they are water, silicone, or oil based because it will be different for everyone.

And oil/wax based (usually for theater makeup) ... It's best to use corresponding products. Water based foundation wouldn't work well over a silicone primer
