My sister is a cosmetologist, so I'm pretty familiar with it just from hearing her talk about her career for so many years, and I can tell you right now that your hair stylist was very unprofessional and way out of pocket. She would have been fired from my sister's salon for doing that to a paying customer. It's her job to help you figure out a hair style that you like, even if that means slowly shortening the length. That being said, it would be helpful to know what you're going to get done before hand, and if you find a picture of a style you like you can always bring it in and they can do that cut for you. I would definitely avoid that place though
