i miss the old death system and aggressive random events. i’ll never forget when i was like 10 i went fishing in catherby and some kid was afk and was killed by an evil chicken. i picked up around 500k in loot which was life changing back in the day. literally was yelling so loud my mom came in the room thinking i was hurt or something lmao good times

Mod Mat K streams back in the day was so fun to watch. Doing and saying anything he wanted about the game. Blew my mind at the time.

I'm glad that the OSRS team was so persistent. Even tho I don't play much anymore, OSRS brought me back. I haven't had a PC in awhile but I just ordered a laptop for "work" hehe. I got an acc to 97cb with Void on mobile only xD so I can't wait to play again with a mouse. Always love the vids :)

This is how staff is meant to treat the game their passionate about as well as juggling the community into the mix and keeping them constantly relevant through every step of the way

Well, I think that interaction with the players made OSRS a success. This is something many indie developers have learned and Jagex had learned it too.

These livestreams were great, because it paved the way for J Mods having events with players safely. Some of you may have died, but that was a sacrifice that he was willing to make.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Jagex HQ a year after OSRS’ release to test the wilderness bosses before release. A part of it got streamed on Twitch and I wanted to revisit the stream years later only to find it gone from Twitch. But now I came across your video and found it in the archives! Thank you for highlighting that this archive exists. 😃

they need to bring back the random events like tree spirits in the trees and shit. For those who don't know, in the old version of runescape sometimes trees would turn into a tree spirit and attack you as you would go to cut them. They were actually pretty strong. If I remember correctly there was also a river troll and a rock golem that would spawn and attack you when you were mining and fishing. The devs eventually removed them from the game for some reason, but I think they were originally added to combat bots.

Awesome vid. Why would he perma-ban two people who got past the fence in an event which was just meant for fun in the first place? Seems very excessive, he could have easily just sent them to lumby and told em not to come back.

j-mods interacting with players and actually having fun without too many restrictions... that's how it used to be when RS first was launched.. and OSRS gave that nostalgic feel.

I remember watching these back in the day and Mat also used to go into the Wilderness on stream in 3rd age with boosted hp, I’m sure it was made so that when he died someone got the 3rd age.

Been at my favorite place to cook at the rouges den and I see a lot of bots/hacked accounts the bots at lvl 3 have 50 thieving and agility to use martin, I see them sell stuff some buy the lock picks I try to report them as soon as I see them but some log out fast I'd like to see this in a video!

Should have mentioned about the ''project RS06''... When eoc came, number of people started working on private server called ''rs06'' and they did a lot of work, when the beta version of the project was released it had huge number of players in it and Jagex noticed that it was dangerous for them if the players went to private server rather than their legit game... So thus they made the oldschool runescape which many people called ''rs07'' because of the private server was called rs06. So you could say it was the people who started working on RS06 that made oldschool runescape possible because it threatened the existence of Jagex. That is why it was polled so they knew how many people wanted to play old runescape rather than new and when it neared 500k votes it was clear what they had to do.

I remember when 1 item pking was popular back in the day. When they first released the wild obs. Some guy brought a red hween mask and no armor or anything except for lobs. I killed him when I was 1 item pking with a dds and the lobs protected over the mask!! Went to fally and sold it for 32mish. I felt like the richest rs player.

the reason why kree was able to attack players was because he spawned it too close to the wall, it caused krees hitbox to overlap with the wall. because it overlapped kree was able to attack trough it. it was one of the funniest thing ever (if you didn't loose anything yourself).
