Those Gibson letters are fascinating. My guess is those employees knew virtually nothing about guitars. As you’re well aware, they date from the Chicago Musical Instruments/Norlin era. That address is not far from my old neighborhood. The building currently there looks like it dates from the 50s or 60s so may well be the same one. But it’s a single story office building. It’s currently a secondary office for a small publisher. I’d bet there were administrative staff in that building, not luthiers.
Oh baby that Spotlight Special tis a beauty !,,,the top on the Tobacco Sunburst LP is WHOA-WHAM-WOWY !!!..and Im a sucker for a Gold Top LP ! also love all the vintage Gibson paperwork...Thanks Trogly !!
I had a Gibson nylon string that I sold to a guy for $100. I knew that it was a mistake at the time, but this convention came around, just South of Seattle, and I needed the $ so I was on my way and some guy stopped me, before I could even get there, and bought it off me on the spot. He was so happy.
Do you ever plan to do weird Gibsons again? Seeing the Futura again got my attention. They have some pretty trend chasing 80s basses but still cool to document. The Gibson 20/20 bass is a grail for me personally.
I am waiting for Gibson to come out with a Gibson "Trogly" Les Paul. Maybe one of these days we will get one. Just in case start thinking of what you want on it. 👍
trogly while i am not much on the comments i get the greatest charge out of your real excitement when you are on to something that grabs ya im like right there with the moment its the best ill ever come to the real thing personally i just love this stuff thanks for bringing this old player along on your journey and i do mean old!
Yes another Corvus review would be fun! Maybe a database would help to keep track of buying, selling, contacts, specs and photos. Even a spreadsheet would be some help.
Its different but don't hate it. I bought two of hos Epiphone SGs for players. Not bad little inexpensive guitars. I hope to grab the 62 LesPaul Standard Gibson Ebony block from him one day. Just not in the cards at this point.
I appreciate the gold top love! When I was 11 I was inspired to start playing because I saw a video of Slash shredding on one. Been my favorite ever since!
Are used to have a fender catalog from sometime in the 80s… Featuring artists I never heard of like bassist Phil Chen! They had these super deluxe, Strats, and Teles with these noiseless pick ups that look kind of goofy with their solid white covers… but they promise to be so fantastic… I just thought to myself, if I could ever get my hands on one of those I’d be so good. Silly silly silly. But having that document was just a cool thing in the pre-Internet era… To just look at over and over again someone will know the guitars I’m talking about. I don’t know if they were called Elite or what at the time.
You have definitely become synonymous with the brand brother, and, like the guitars themselves, people will either love or hate you. I love your show and what you do. Rock on!
Salutations Austin! That Spotlight Special Les Paul has an absolutely beautiful top, and also the Les Paul with the amazing 3 dimensional grain pattern is very exceptional too. I look forward to seeing special videos of both of these instruments! Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
Disposable records? I’ve never heard them called that before. That cheap thin format can be quite collectible; it’s how the original Beatles Fan Club Christmas Records were made. Flexi-disc was the big brand in the US.
I have at least one guitar that should've came with a chainsaw case back in 83 . But having had a knockoff chainsaw case o wouldve rather at least get a regular case since the same place i bought that one from just so happened to have the era correct case . Sounded as if they may have gotten the case with the guitar. Had i realized that i wouldve offered them less for the guitar. Its just not right that dealers do this and should be more upfront on this type of thing. Some of us cant afford to be jacked like that. I've always liked the cherry sunburst myself. I hope the guy who had the Gold top takes better care of the guitars than his cases. To bad I cant possibly afford it since its the year I graduated. Those 45 rpm records were just a cheap way for record companies to stamp records. Aa fragile as an old floppy disc . They usex to stuff them in promotional items and came with some new instruments as well as in cereal boxes helping record labels promote acts as well as the cereal.
Finally! Trogly admits that his show drives up the price market values and makes Gibsons cost alot more than they should based on their poor quality control issues.
Muh poor quality control issues, but you're complaining that they're too expensive for you to buy, because you want one. Something keeping you from buying a Glarry?
It's not exactly a secret. Trogly sells Gibson guitars. It's in his best interest to keep the prices low enough that people will pay it, but high enough to make bank. Any capitalist would do the same. Don't put stock in what he says on prices. It's smoke and mirrors. He is a salesman. He is a very entertaining showman of a salesman, but a salesman nonetheless. These vids are basically demos of his inventory while also being guitar porn, lol. Smart guy, even if 9 out of 10 people whine and complain, that 10th is dropping $ for all of us to get a daily video and possibly learn a thing or two about our favorite guitars.... win/win.
Prices are not determined by one person trading guitars. That's a ridiculous suggestion. What he might achieve is publicity for a specific model and that might attract greater interest from guitar nerds and traders. No guitar manufacturer will determine prices by reference to Trogly.
I'd say prices are determined by demand but also certain dealers who are revered that set prices higher also. You could always buy a Heritage made in the old Kalamazoo plant. Those aren't that cheap either.
That 82 gold top is my birth year and almost birthday. If I read thag correctly its the 34th day of 82 which would be February 3rd. Im still looking for a 039th day February 8th 1982 les paul.
I swear some of these rich people must buy guitars like I bought baseball cards when I was a kid Get some rich person gum and then go through: “got it, got it, need it, got it…”
beautiful cherry sunburst with the cream pickups. looks like my 81 custom after i converted it to cream plastics and dimarzios. i hate the black on cherry bursts. that futura is disgusting design
