"If it don't look right, run at night" - good life lessons learned here. I like that, I'm gonna file that one away for later.

Very cool to see you pull the trailer out with the truck, instead of the rear. 👍👍

I often wondered what the old carter lumber was being used for. even left ya some lumber. some nice shop area and office space for you to grow
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Месяц назад
They left the lumber racks, but no lumber. There were a lot of specialty shelving units in this building and some of the others that we disassembled and salvaged the wood, so the racks came in handy. We purchased this property at the end of 2020 so that all of our equipment could be under a roof, and to help free up some of the space at the main shop. It does leave a lot of room for growth/expansion, and in the meantime provides lots of storage.

Nice that it came back out fairly easy , you spent more time rigging to drag it home . Got to love those cordless Milwaukee tools. Thanks for sharing
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Месяц назад
Correct, it was a lot of rigging to keep the trailer held together! And yes, the Milwaukee tools are a huge lifesaver when it comes to jobs like this.

In a case like this: Step 1: Suspension down, most air out of the tyres, disconnect the roof spoilers.

I’m thinking if that driver could have grabbed another gear he might have made it through! Without the top on a box van it makes the chassis very flexible the sides a top rails are a crucial part of the strength of the trailer! Thought I’d share that I was a trailer mechanic for 14 years! And the trailer was needing brakes too! Good job on the recovery! Catch you next time stay safe WG!
@WilcoxGarageRecovery
@WilcoxGarageRecovery Месяц назад
Yes, I was concerned whether it was going to hold together or not, but it did. When the parts that keep the strength of the trailer are gone, it's time to improvise with what you have to make it stronger. The camera was out of battery while we chained up underneath, but we bored holes in the floor near the tandem assembly with a hole saw, and then chained to the dolly legs. Essentially continually creating a series of triangular shapes with straps and chains to create the strength that was lost.

I am a retired truck driver from Wisconsin .so many of our drivers this happened to in Illinois. I often wonder why at least why they don’t weld an arch of steel eye beams 100-200- feet whatever distance away from the bridge and that way a stupid driver would hit the I-beams, and yes, damage his truck but not risk damaging the bridge which is a lot worse and more expensive. This driver had to be daydreaming ,asleep or’on his phone # 12”was painted in big numbers on the bridge if he was paying attention he would’ve seen it.

1:16 That driver sitting there on the curb tells the whole story!😂😂 I don't understand how these guys can drive these huge trucks and not pay attention to things like a low bridge thats always clearly marked as such! Too busy listening to the GPS voice telling them exactly what, where & when to do it! I see this all the time! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Job security for you guys!✅👍🏻👌🏻😂🚧⚠️🦺🚚⛓️ ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻

We use the ladder sparingly, and it is more compact for the toolbox than the folding ladder would be. I would agree the folding ladder would be more sturdy though.

We cranked the dolly legs up and that was enough to clear without letting air out.

Pretty hard to miss that 12' Highlighted on the bridge like that. IF he did see that, he probably shit all over himself, because he sure didn't hit the brakes. The driver had to be going pretty fast to squeeze himself under there like that. Sence He couldn't figure out what that big ole 12' meant on the bridge, I just kind of figure He should of just grabbed another gear & pulled her on through there, & then try & sneak it back to a drop yard. Think anyone would have noticed?
