I do want to share an opinion, that starting a video saying you have great respect for someone so controversial is a very effective way to polarize your otherwise apolitical content. We can of course learn life lessons from anybody and I’m glad you want to share these lessons, but professing your respect is a different form of expression. Hope you continue sharing so I can continue learning!

Hey, Michael. I of course want to keep my mission here on RU-vid focused on helping others get the best results out of their sound systems and their audio careers. My point in mentioning my respect for Jordan Peterson wasn't to stir anything up or dive into politics, but simply acknowledge where I learned the frame of thinking I used for this particular video and that I'm thankful for the source for which it came. My hope would be that even if someone comes to different conclusions than me concerning cultural/political issues, including them thinking Mr. Peterson is a lunatic, that we could still find common ground around a shared passion for live audio and serving well with our craft.

Communication/working with others is insanely powerful. You could be amazing but don't communicate well and others will either be frustrated by you or think you're not a good fit. Most techs I see rise through the ranks are good at communicating.

Over the years, it helped me to get to where I am now - by being "flexible" with my trade... I do Live Sound and I also do Systems Integration/Install jobs, Being able to swing between 2 different company divisions as a fulltime staff.

Such good advice! Thanks Michael! For me personally, I have found that learning and mastering skills is much easier than being a master "people person" That being said, the majority of my work has come from people wanting to work with me for me and not just because of my skillset. The book "How To Win Friends and Influence People" was life changing for me!

I think sometimes people confuse "confidence" with "arrogance". I once told someone, "you're awesome, go in there and be confident and make it happen" and their response was "oh I don't want to be seen as a cocky jerk". Two different things. Have confidence in your abilities - this sets people at ease when you appear to know what you're doing - but not cockiness. In fact, oftentimes those who are the most arrogant/cocky are the ones who aren't the best at the task. Be confident because you know you're trained up and ready.

And like a side effects of doing sound as professional is that after that tring to do something else on certain age is nearly impossible! Please fir your future family good try doing something else.This branch is extinct .I was the same like you ! You will find a job or more in audio but they will never want to pay you as such for a university.For example i have multiple masters in audio and i ve invest over 30 years and upon time happend to have bosses like no degree ,with imposible requests like fail to execute 2 seconds after or other stupidity.I m trying to open your eyes ! Please don t take me to haters sides.And yes doing this will conduct to be immature and irresponsible because you will invest tone of precious time far from your family! Is not worth it man this is my honest conclusion.Hope you will get the benefits from my humble honest advices!

@@tudorgheorghe4532 You are of course entitled to your own experience, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. The live entertainment industry is growing and needs more talent. I've been able to make a great living for my family for the past 5 years as a freelancer and also be present as a father and husband. Masters degrees don't get more gigs (although they CAN lead to more skills). Production managers hire the most talented, available, and good-to-hang-with engineers, not the most "educated". I do agree with you that if you choose the national touring route you will spend a ton of time away from home, but there are many, many other ways to leverage your skills as an audio engineer and not travel near as much.
