You said you were afraid of atheists before, and I understand why, that is simply how you were brought up. But how long did it take you to get comfortable among all of us evil atheists? :) Because I suspect that you don't have any fear at all any more, if you have lived some time in Sweden you have certainly noticed that it's a very safe place to be in. And what do you think now of those thoughts you had before?
@veenyaga
@veenyaga Год назад
I see Swedes as Christians (but not practicing)this visible in the celebrations carried out in Sweden like Easter,Ascension day,Christmas,Lucia.Therefore i wouldn't fully say swedes are atheists.And on the contrary swedes are the best people,very harmless.Sweden is a very safe place to live in.

@@veenyaga We have some christian traditions, that's true. That's because our great grandmothers/fathers were christians. But that was a long time ago.. Have you celebrated any of them with any swedes? If so, you might have noticed that there usually aren't much christianity left in them actually. :) Easter are mostly eggs and small twigs with feathers in them. And candy. :) Actually, I don't think I have ever done anything christian during easter... Ascension day we don't celebrate at all, it's just a day we are free of work. Christmas we call "Jul", that's the old pagan name, we never renamed it to anything christian. And Santa Claus is called Jultomten, "the Yule gnome", also an old pagan thing. You have seen the small straw goats that are everywhere during Christmas? They are probably an old symbol coming from the two goats that pulled Thors chariot. And if you celebrate with a swedish family sometimes, you will probably notice that Donald Duck is way more prominent than Jesus. The stars are everywhere though, that's the star of Betlehem. :) Lucia. I think that's a Sweden only tradition. You don't have that in Kenya, right? Most likely it's because in old nordic belief, the 13:th of december were the night when all the supernatural beings were out in the world, so we had to scare them away with light. My "favourite" though, (I think these kinds of things are quite funny to find out), is how we celebrate Feast of the Annunciation. We eat waffles. Why? Because in swedish it was called Vårfrudagen (Our miss's day) and that sounds a bit like Våffeldagen (the Waffle day) if you say it fast. So we eat waffles. Because it's the waffle day. :) And today, basically nobody knows it by any other name than The Waffle day. But yes, we are extremely harmless and peaceful. We always follow the rules, and the rules say we shouldn't do bad stuff. :) And we haven't been to war in some 300 years.

@@veenyaga Most Swedes are *culturally* christians in that christian celebrations are part of our traditions. For the same reason a large part of Swedes are church members. But only a minority is christian in the sense that they believe in the christian god and christian dogmas. Swedes generally express their spirituality in other ways, e.g. through nature,

@@veenyaga We celebrated most of those before Christianity existed. Like Jesus wasn't born at Christmas. But since the Christians couldn't eradicate the pagan tradition of celebrating the winter solstice they did their usual thing and hijacked the tradition. And changed the date of Jesus birth to fit this narrative. Like as you know, we still call it jul here. That's why we eat ham. To symbolize the never ending pig Särimner in Valhalla which the gods feasted on at... jul :)

Smoking: Sweden has one of the lowest rate of smoking. But that is because we have a very low rate of men smoking (using the less harmful snus instead) and we do have one of the highest rate of smoking among women (snus unlike smoking are mainly considered masculine here so fewer women use it).

I’m afraid you won’t get used to the darkness in the winter, I was born here and I’ve always hated it. It’s even worse in the northern parts, some places don’t get any sunlight at all for like a month. On the other hand the sunlight in the summer is gorgeous 😊

Thank you for your great and informative video about your own very interesting aspects about Sweden 🙂❤️ But one thing, there is a little fact I think you have little wrong about, 53% är members of the state christian Lutheran church, then we have muslems, Catholics, jews, atheism and more. Many in Sweden recognise as Christian agnostics, that doesn't mean we are not believing in God but we are questioning why, how and facts but at the same time feels there are something greater out there. One thing many believes is that Atheism is big in Sweden, but often many confuse it with all agnostics.

Compared to then I was young I have notice that the smoking in Sweden have actually increased since the last few years and so have the snusandet. Sweden as a country is more against smoking then for smoking, the no smoke signs are seen in multlible places, forbidden to smoke inside buildings, forbidden to smoke near hospitals. We grow up learning that smoking is ok outside but it's deadly and not to be recommended.
