Please share, who ever has bought this car, or others from this shop may be in danger.
I am more than frustrated, I have been reaching out to people and government bodies to see what I can do, and now after a month I find out there is nothing I can do.
The cars VIN is: WMZYT3C5XK3E94648

Idk, most shop won't mess with these but there so many guides on Internet how to bypass airbag lights all over on the Internet. I guaranteed car owner did it himself with unsafety wiring with no insulation. No protect wiring from common sense. I'm a mechanic as well. Did a PPI for my neighbor. 2017 Honda Civic, rebuilt salvage title, but the car was priced appropriately and my neighbor was aware of it and fine with that as long as it was repaired in a reasonably competent manner. The seller had "before" pictures, and it didn't look like there was serious structural damage. The actual bodywork was done reasonably well... Didn't look perfect but the welds were good and such. However, I noticed that the driver's seat bolster had nothing in it- it was just seat fabric over air. No seat airbag. I also noticed a little bit of airbag cushion material peeking out where the side curtain bag was supposed to be. Sure enough, they'd cut the deployed curtain bag out, and put a resistor in the connector. Same thing with the seat airbag, driver's knee bag, and the seat belt retractor. Here's the deal... All of those things could have been purchased from a salvage yard, and that's not unreasonable when you're rebuilding a car. It might have cost a few hundred dollars more... But the car would have been fixed properly. I know that I wouldn't be able to sleep if I'd done something like that. But apparently, these guys had no conscience.

If I’m buying a salvaged title I expect there to be no airbags what???? Are you guys on, how can y’all blame others for your stupidity, and a deployed airbag is not as simple as you make it seem, it’s a minimum $500, and that’s if zero plastics/other fabrics don’t break when the airbag is deployed I rather get a car 8k cheaper then have the used car place sell me a salvaged title above market price

@@david-468 When I rebuild salvage title cars, I absolutely always replace any deployed airbags. You can get used ones pretty cheaply for most cars. The only times I see them (used) for $500 or so are for late model European luxury cars. But the missing airbags aren't the real problem here, it's the deception. If you want to rebuild a car without the airbags and sell it, fine. But tell the purchaser. The problem here is that they went out of their way to make it look like the airbags were present- they put in new covers, they wired in resistors to trick the computer into thinking an airbag is there so the warning light won't come on, and things like that. But again, used airbags are usually not all that expensive, and I refuse to cut those corners when I do salvage rebuilds. Sure, I might be able to make a couple hundred bucks more. But I'd never be able to sleep at night knowing I'd deliberately misrepresented a car as having everything intact. Some people still have a conscience.

Left the automotive industry 20 years ago, never looked back. It was a time when one could repair their vehicles if he/she wanted to. It baffles me how a “shop” can release a “unsafe vehicle” because the customer requests it. With no Fed or State protection or oversight. Good for you!!! Seriously though I appreciate your honesty and so will your customers. When I ran a smallish 4 lift shop “Booktime” was used as a reference tool, not a standard. 90% of our customers never paid “Booktime”, I just couldn’t look at a customer with a straight face whilst they pay out the arse for a repair that took 31mins but charged for a hour. Off Topic but just read the receipt from a Volvo dealer on an oil change that my mom took in. I guess the days of checking things over and topping off are over. $10.00 for “Windshield Washer Fluid Topped”. WTF!?! The best one was a $45.00 for “Airfilter Replacement”, plus parts. Anyways….Goodluck my friend!!!

You’re the best! Don’t worry about what the bums say, you’re doing a great service for your community. I helped a buddy out at his 2 bay body shop and we’d get lightly wrecked cars and even those that had airbags and seatbelt tensioners that had gone off. We took them out and sent them to a company that repairs them so they will actually function again. Not once did we ever think of not fixing the airbags and tensioners. So don’t you worry what you’ve done will get around and it’s appreciated.

Live in a college town, Local stealership near me always selling fucked up cars, clients are almost always young college students and they understandably freak the fuck out when you let them know everything that is wrong because they just bought it. That dealership still has a 4.7 star rating. Truly astonishing.

Ratings are a scam in of themselves. I ignore ratings & reviews unless they can be proven to be real customers who did not get paid for the review or discount for posting a positive review. I had to have a tire reballanced. Guy at the shop said "no charge if you post a positive review on Google." He basicly paid me $30 (cost of a reballance) for a positive review.

In my state the DMV has investigators that will look into such things and if something is found, hands it off to the State AG. All of us techs need to take things seriously and do things right. A tech who did an inspection on a vehicle days prior to a crash that killed alot of people went to jail as the vehicle should of never passed. Since then alot more in the industry atleast in my state have gone the extra mile in ensuring repairs are done right or refusing to work on a vehicle otherwise. All DMVs in every state should be employing investigators to look at complaints.

The Colorado Independent Auto Dealers Association and the Attorney General's office were both involved in forcing the selling dealer to repair it. They determined there selling dealer should be aware of properly functioning dash warning lights when the vehicle is inspected and sold. Great job you do. Thank you.

Seen it time and time again, and the scary thing is, there is absolutely no way of knowing if this has been done unless you went through every safety device and set eyes on it, even then the resistors could be placed anywhere in the circuit, so until you really need them how can anyone really know if their used car is actually safe…. Well done for exposing this dealer, it’s scary how laid back they sound about the situation not realising that they could kill someone or multiple people who think there car is as safe as when it left the factory….

Seen a few comments to the effect of "But the primary air bags will still deploy" i guess this suggests its not veiwed as being sooo bad..... Here's my thoughts. Short story, who knows how the SRS control module may behave in the event of an accident. Long story, The dummy resistors are unlikely to behave the same as the pretensioner igniters. This is because although the SRS module is looking for a 2-3 Ohm load, i suspect the igniter wont have a purely resistive impedance. I'd hazard guess the igniter has a heater element, which would be subject the inductance and PTC heating effect, both of which would affect the operating impedance (It would increase when operating). If this is the case, a purely resistive load like a dummy resistor would allow much higher Current flow during a deployment, which could... Cause an over Current, and if the other air bags used a common driver circuit within the SRS module, this may fail to operate correctly/at all. Cause a DTC to set and since a fault is detected, airbags may fail to deploy/have increased latency. Lets not forget the exact circuit designs and logic behind every manufacturers SRS systems is different, so what may work with one, wont with another. No part of any SRS system should be modified, regardless or how important you view its function.... or if you think the rest of the system will operate correctly. It took balls to call this one out, i have no doubt you may face some criticism, but you have my respect big time. Fucking twisted wires and tape..... wasn't even a hack done well.....

Hey brother….I feel your pain on a daily basis. I am in the fire alarm industry as a service technician. I see shit like this every day in life safety systems that are supposed to save people’s lives! There are so many shady techs in my industry (an industry that you can’t afford to have a single thing not work) it makes my head spin. People will resistor off notification circuits (horns and strobes) because they don’t want to spend money to fix the problem, or the techs themselves are shady too and just lazy! I’ve seen people resistor off entire floors of smoke detectors…..and sometimes we are told to leave and they will get someone else to “fix it cheaper” when I bring the hard facts up to them. my point is, I’ve been there and it literally keeps me up at night sometimes worrying about people that might be sleeping in these buildings. It’s the reason why i have a hard time sleeping in a hotel. Unfortunately it isn’t just the automotive industry. I will never not fear for someone’s family and loved ones due to the vile, greedy and shady people of this world. It tortures me every day of my career.

Well, if you sell a car to someone under the pretense that all of the safety equipment is working, that is a fraudulent transaction. Fraud is unlawful. It's even worse if that vehicle then gets into an accident, then the person that did that to the car is liable for criminal levels of negligence. Or a possibly more serious charge.
