Here’s an upgrade: Amazon has the S809 floor standing speakers for $299 a pair today. Put those in front, move the S803s to the back channels, and connect the S801s to a DAC/amp connected to your computer.

These speakers are definitely midrange scooped sounding, so, if you have no EQ capability, Make sure you like their sound signature, and that you also have use for the whole set of speakers, bc if you don’t, it doesn’t matter how cheap they are, they’ll just be taking up some of your space to some degree.. They are on the power hungry side as well. Caveat Emptor! 😮Randy, don’t get offended, or be mad at me lol I should have heard your summary ! “before” I threw in my $0.02. 😂😂😂

I bought this set a few years ago when I was thinking about setting up a 5.1 system in a 'wasted' end of our living room. We've since replaced 803's with a pair of 809's (on sale for $200/pair!). We also moved away from a HT receiver to a Schiit Syn and an Emotiva A3. Things are getting better, but it was that 5 speaker set that started it all.

It's a great deal... been on for months now. Wish they put the matching centre speaker to the fronts... would've paid extra $50 for that combo. As is, some may find a slight soft in timbre from the different woofer units across the front. But for $150, you can't go wrong for home theater use.

I did exactly this. I started getting into the speaker hobby about a year or 2 ago. Bought this 5.0 setup for 150 and a Jamo subwoofer for $120ish. I run a 3.1 system in my living room and I took the s801s into my office for a desk setup. Some of the best $150 I’ve spent! I am going to look for some EQ on my Sony receiver though. Thanks for the tip!

I bought these for my surrounds, they work great. I have a Denon 760h which is 5.2.2 I got for $340 factory refurb. I use Emotiva t-zero towers and C1+ for LCR. Ya’ know, three days ago I told my friend of mine who said he wanted a 5.1 setup to get these. I recommended this deal because of my S 805s I have in the bedroom and the fact that they were under 200$. Good to see you agree with me that these are great starters. The S 805s I have didn’t seem to have a midrange clarity issue, but I believe those use 5” drivers, and are a completely different form factor, so it makes sense. The V-shaped sound was expected, but I hope it doesn’t sound too bad out of the box. I don’t want to scare my friend back to sound bars from Vizio.

I bought these as a transition set to temporarily replace a 5.0 set that were starting to rot, with the intention of upgrading to something "better" in the future. Loved them so much that I nixed the idea of better speakers and chose to upgrade my receiver to a Marantz sr6015 configured as 5.1.4. Then I bought another set of the Jamos to complete the height channels. Not disappointed at all!

I'm building a system for a medium sized living room. I plan on purchasing the Uni-fi 2.0 B52s. They're 951/pair. According to your review along with the positive reviews of many satisfied customers, I know it will be well worth it. I'll be pairing them with my Denon receiver. The sound will be great after they've broken in. Thanks again for the great reviews. Have a good night 🌃

I have a jamo system: s807's floor, s801's for the rear surrounds, cen s83, 2 atm's and a polk audio sub. My receiver is Sony str dh750. I have definitely used the eq settings on my receiver to enhance the dialogue for the center channel and even out the bass on the rears. With the proper adjustments my systems sounds great for movies and music but I mainly use it for movies. The receiver has a built in amp that is good enough for my set up. One of my favorite movies to use to test out sound is Tron legacy, specifically the light cycle battle scene. I also use the first avatar movie as well. This is my first "real" home theater set up where I actually took time to purchase speakers lol.

I had the s801 and soon got rid of them. I think this is a quantity over quality situation. Still better than a soundbar and Bluetooth speaker like you said. Very fatiguing, didn’t respond to EQ well, and that 100hz boost made it very difficult to integrate with a subwoofer.

It's funny because the Klipsch R-41M were the first speakers I ever bought and I still have them laying around. I ended up buying this Jamo set to fill in my Emotive LCR livingroom. My go-to basics are still the M-Audio BX-5 (various sub-models, all sound nearly the same). These are shielded, self-powered, and sound great. $250 for a pair on sale is pretty easy to find (and used, barely used from a studio setup are even cheaper). And while it's not dirt-cheap, it does open up the options for those without an amplifier. I use mine with my computer. Overkill? Maybe. But your computer IS an excellent DAC in its own right. As he mentioned, though, no, like most powered speakers, it does not have phono input capability, which is a bit of a shame. Then again, finding a turntable with a preamp built in isn't so terribly hard. Mine has USB, further integrating itself into my PC setup. As a plus, is does have XLR and 1/4 inch, so it can be used as a makeshift practice amp or PA system. If you are looking at cheap studio monitors, these consistently sound the best for the money versus all the other junk at Guitar Center and similar stores. And there always is a pair used for sale as well if you are on a budget :)

Still for the money how can you go wrong value wise when you upgrade these would be great garage speakers, or pass them on to a friend just starting out I wish you well this is bargain basement prices. That's my 2 cents.

After taking the journey, if I was on a budget, I'd go with something that actually sounded acceptable. Powered studio monitors are affordable and sound amazing. KRK has a pair with 5" woofers for $170. Adam has a pair with 8" woofers and a ribbon tweeter for $300. Many to choose from that sound excellent (Kali, M-Audio, Yamaha, JBL). How much is a 5.1 receiver? I own M-Audio and Klipsch powered speakers. Great for starting out.

These are a crazy deal, I've been doing a lot of research into Jamo lately. While I haven't heard them yet, almost everything I see about them is shining. A lot of people say the S 83 center sounds a good amount better than the S 81 that comes in this set. So drop another $99 to get the S81 and it'll still be cheaper and sound better than any other brand worth buying that's in this price range. This set for $149 make zero sense, I'm leaning towards getting Polk Reserve's. The R200's are $749, that's just 2 bookshelf speakers. And according to the fancy pants audiophiles on YT the Polk Reserve's are "budget friendly" speakers. I could buy 5 sets of these and have a 25 speaker setup for the same price as ONE piece of the Polk. To put the savings into perspective, *IF* I happen to find the Polks on the best sale of the year. I'll pay almost $1600 for what costs $149 here. Now the Polk's are in a totally different league, but they're not going to sound anywhere close to 11 times better than the Jamos. If I had sense, I'd be buying these, but I don't lol.

After hearing this bundle for myself. It's one of those too good to be true. These things sound signature are so bad that they aren't even worth free. They wouldn't be good for someone just getting into the hobby. Because they might think that's normal sound. Maybe if they removed the center speaker and replaced it with another bookshelf speaker for the center. It will at least sound better. But again they sound so bad it's not even worth it. I've lost faith in Jamo.
