Fun detail: the cleaver Mizu used to cut the guy's fingers has her signature on it, which gives a whole new context to her saying he doesn't even deserve to be cut by it.

something I didn't pick up on right away is Mizu uses a scarf to hide not having an adams apple, didn't realize till the creator pointed it out in an interview.

"I do not know their names. I do know their fate." I f*cking love that line.

When Akemi is introduced, she is faced with being forced to do something she doesn't want to do and has to argue to make the situation more palatable. She is introduced along side her baby brother who is making a goddamn mess and being praised for it. "He does what he wants to do", her father says. While she bows, expected to be prim and proper, he throws his privilege in her face...literally, in the form of noodles! Delivers the message without preaching, in an undeniable way, shows and doesn't tell. Masterfully done!

This show is amazing, glad people are starting to pick it up.

I went into this series when it dropped not knowing anything, never watched any trailer & my first thought seeing the main character was "that's a girl right" but to be far I did want to wait for shows confirmation. A lot of anime sometimes have male characters voiced by women. Binge entire series when it dropped.

I had seen a trailer for the show ages ago but didn't remember it well and went into the pilot with the thought that the samurai was a guy (I didn't know the voice actress either) and so it was a fun reveal for me!

Naruto fans were extra hyped about the weight drop

I pay attention to newly released soundtracks and just the OST cover looked interesting..Hunted it down on Netflix and gave the first episode a try..A few hours (8ish) later, had watched the whole show, and I want more..This is an amazing show..A great example of an actual strong female character that you can actually like..

You are another group of reactors that got right that yes the main character is in fact a girl!! The few reactors were either 100% on the money with it or were skeptical because although the mc's voice is lighter and her facial features could give her away, she's still androgynous and her voice doesn't really give her away because it's scratchy and raspy, perfect to hide herself because, as we saw with the princess Akemi and the basket maker lady, women were not treated kindly...also fun fact ft. Akemi, she is played by the one and only London Tipton, aka Brenda Song. Took a google search to figure it out but now that ik, I can't unhear it! She does so good in this role.

Apparently when you read the script of this pilot, the “peaches” reveal is way stronger

Yes its a modern show, however if we are thinking from the perspective of a half-foreign woman living in 1657 Japan, its likely that the decision to disguise oneself as a man is more of a practical consideration (its safer to travel and you are treated differently by society) rather than being due to a person's inner feelings or sense of self. At least thats what I would consider realistic based on what has been shown thus far.

yeah blue samarai is a great show. Another one that is coming in january is Solo Leveling. That one is like a power scale video game vs monsters like anime like JJK but its from South Korea. Solo leveling is the biggest new anime coming out next year.

I have only seen episode 1, so the only "spoilers" I'm looking for that is that if there is romance and if there is, is it going be with Akemi? If that's the case, I will probably not continue watching. I prefer no romance, especially in these kinds of shows, and if there is, I want something more interesting and less common. For example, I wouldn't mind Mizu with Ringo. They seem fun together and it is new for a main romance. I'm very particular when it comes to anime, especially with romance. I know that I wil be bored with most interactions with Mizu and Akemi. And if I really don't like something, the rest, even if it's a 9/10 scene, it would downgrade the show entirely for me. I don't want to waste my time.

I like seeing people enjoy things without feeling the need to jam some shitty political take in there. Keep crushing it errbody.
