couple things. That wasn't Vi on the transport. That was a girl with pink hair who looked like younger Vi from 7 years earlier. Jinx is reminded of Vi when she unmasked her. Jinx knows it wasn't Vi. We get that from her conversation with Silco and from when she was talking with the effigies of Milo and Claggor in her "lair". Last we saw Vi, she was being hauled away by Marcus. Jinx hasn't seen her since that night. Silco says "Your sister is gone". Jinx says "I know". Has Silco really turned Jinx into what she has become, or was it her trauma? Silco was angry with Jinx for blowing up the topside building and killing enforcers.
That wasn't Vi at the beginning, just Jinx seeing things. it's a common mistake among reactors. Great reaction though, really liking your perspective as a writer.
Common mistake most pick up on either during Silco's and Jinx's conversation or at the end when we see Vi with all her tattoos and huge muscles. Plus he clearly didn't pickup on it on the edit either. Otherwise he would have mentioned it.
As it has already been stated, that wasn't Vi that Jinx shot, it was just a random girl from Firelights that looked a bit like younger Vi. Both Silco and Jinx think that Vi is dead but Vi has actually been in Stillwater all this time. Also the song that Jinx was listening to is called "Get Jinxed", it's one of the most popular cinematics for the game. It's basically a song about Jinx from the game with the animated MV (which was animated by the same studio that created Arcane - they made all of the cinematics for League of Legends)
So you can see it on the back of her prison uniform at the end of the episode but Vi is inmate 516. The moniker roman numeral "VI" can be interpreted both as 5 and 1 as well as 6, or 516. That paired with also spelling her nickname, it is a very deliberate alias. This show has such amazing attention to detail, easter eggs, and character building.
Good reaction, you're following along well mostly. Your opening was on-point - Arcane isn't really a show about 'good or bad' people, about 'heroes and villains'. There are flawed protagonists and relatable antagonists, and how you feel about everyone is very much down to your perspective. A lot of reactors get lost over who they are 'supposed' to root for, but this isn't Marvel or Star Wars. And yes, the way Jinx acts around Silco is intentionally meant to make you feel uncomfortable. She's very clingy, extremely traumatised and lacks boundaries. Also the girl who gets killed on the ship wasn't Violet, she just looked a *bit* like her and Jinx's trauma filled in the details. It's a common mistake for reactors as the show depicts that scene from Powder's perspective.
I don't know how they could've made it any more obvious while still conveying Jinx's POV. After that first second, you can clearly see the kid has completely different facial features, brown eyes instead of blue, is smaller and possibly younger than Jinx is now, tries to pull away and run instead of fight, and is too weak to even do that?
[1:25] "Silco wants to unite the undercity. Great, okay you want to unite the people but the bad news is he wants to unite them to fight against topside." I agree with your conclusion that a good villain needs to have relatable motivations and goals. I also agree that the means to achieving this goal is what makes him a villain. What I disagree about is the goal. When Vander tells Silco that he won't win a war against Piltover even with shimmer, Silco replies that they don't have to, they merely have to scare them enough to stop trying. I.e. Silco doesn't necessarily wants a fight, he'd be content with making the price for attacking (or rather suppressing) the undercity so steep that they won't have to fight. While the distinction is a bit subtle, it's not entirely unimportant.
Yep. Jinx is the one who wants Piltover in flames. Silco wouldn`t mind that necessarily but his goal is moreso to get "Topside" to accept Zaun`s sovereignty and equality by any means necessary.
The song Jynx was vibing to was “Get Jynx,” from a video Riot Games released to introduce her character to the game. Riot Games has sometimes been referred to as “a music company that makes video games.”
Think about it, would Vi look EXACTLY the same while everyone else changed. Did the girl on the airship have a tattoo on her face or huge muscles? The girl was shorter than jinx.
I think enough people commented about VI, so I won't go there. But the song Jinx is listening to is called "Get Jinxed" and has a cute little music video that Riot released a few years prior to Arcane. Also If you are going to check out the music video for "enemy by Imagine Dragons, then I recommend checking that either directly before episode 7 or directly after (although I think before is best).
I feel like it's sensible to point out the questions you have, the questions the show brings out in you, even though that amounts to "asking questions that may soon be answered". After all, a good text should provoke questions, then (hopefully) answer a fair few of them, and given that a picture is worth a thousand words, video is worth thirty thousand words per second (okay that's clearly a lie, but it's funny to say it).
Not only did they show the pink haired girl's face, they showed her getting killed, then had a scene where Jinx says she confused a pink haired girl for Vi. How do people not realize that wasn't Vi.
It's almost of it people aren't listening to what actually be said and instead inferring something else. I'm trying to remember time where there is dialog in this series where a characters said sometign and didn't mean exactly what they said. Maybe a few times at most.
"Jinx has good taste in music." It's funny you say that, because that song she was grooving out to is her theme song. They released it in a music video featuring Jinx to announce the release of her character back in 2013. It was the first video Fortiche and Riot did together.
I like to think that Jinx built doll/dummy versions of her friends because it puts a physical thing for her to try to talk to when their voices are trapped in her head
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I think Jayce and Viktor are still too naive to believe that their "inventions" would be used as weapons instead of their intended use. It's episode 4 and that one council member is still playing with the children's toy that Mal gave him in episode 2. It's been said that there is about a 7-year gap between episode 3 and episode 4.
14:00 I know the creators of Arcane were very much not subtle, but's it's really funny how you called Marcus shady when he literally is re-introduced by coming from shadows 😂
You know its hard to judge Silco and Jinx relationship at this point in the season especially since we don't know what happened in the time after episode three, but there are indications that Jinx became what she is now because of a combination of many different things and only a part of that is Silco. I think its safe to say that Silco has manipulative tendencies towards Jinx and that he relies on her to be a weapon in his fight against the oppressive Piltover. But there are also some interesting aspects that can be seen in this episode but become clearer later. Silco seems to have changed. Or at least his behavior towards Jinx is different to how he treated people before. He is very protective and seems to be gentle and understanding when he talks to her. And obviously Jinx and her little rogue adventure to topside where she stole the chrystal wasn't at all what he planned. He seems to have problems controlling her sometimes, but defends her whenever she messes up, and he wants to keep her around even if she harms his cause. This is just not what you would expect from a guy who swore to do anything in his power to fight for the independence of the undercity
Make sure you watch the Enemy music video between episodes 6 and 7. It has some extra scenes that provide some interesting insight into a few events in the final act.
Thougtful reactions so far! Loving your take on the show. The creators of the show definitely share your view about the hazards of technology. Profesor Heimerdingër - OppenHEIMER, SchroDINGËR. Also as an aside, ever since Jean-Baptiste Boussingault discovered that nitrogen was a key ingredient in crop production in the mid 1800s, overpopulation is as fantastical a myth as Hextech or shimmer, as evidenced by the expansion of the human population by billions in the 1900s. The main problems we face today in terms of resource distribution that fuel that myth are mainly due to supply chain issues and capitalist incentives to hoard or dispose of goods that can't be sold for profit. And of course it also serves class interests to keep that idea alive in popular media 😉 Can't wait til you get to the season finale! It's a doozy!
Jinx's taste in music, incidentally, was actually from the FMV that released alongside the character in League of Legends, titled "Get Jinxed" As for the dummies... well, ever heard the phrase "Living rent-free in my head"? Yeah... she has that going *literally* with Mylo and Claggor.
Fun fact:The drunk dudes on the airship are the three animation directors of the show and the violinist Heimerdinger listens to later is the same dude who composed the beautiful score at the beginning and end of the series.
The problem that causes most other problems with humans is the perpetuation of the idea that we need central government, which by definition is doing things in some people's lives they don't want. When you have that kind of power to write laws people must obey, at some point, you have become a slavemaster, even if you refuse being called so. People en masse perpetuate this despite that it is wrong in principle and necessarily stomps on natural rights we all have as living sentient beings. One can trace more than 99% of the world's social problems to this belief in authority.
