This small Wisconsin town claims to have invented the hamburger - So many towns across America claim to be the birthplace of the hamburger! Yet, which one is telling the truth? Who REALLY invented the hamburger?? 🤔 According to some, the answer is clear: it happened RIGHT HERE in a small town located far from Texas or even New York!!!
After seeing the “evidence” presented to us & exploring the town and some of its history where this epic event allegedly took place are we convinced that we found where the first American made hamburger was invented??? Find out in this episode of SightseeingSally.
About me: I grew up in a small town the Midwest. Now I drive America's backroads exploring small towns, forgotten places, local history and more!

I grew up in Seymour and graduated in 1985. Right out of high school, I worked for the Seymour Parks Department. I spent so many hours mowing and taking care of the lake and the other parks. Also the husband of the owner of Eleves Gifts was one of my Dad's best friends. Thank you so much for bringing back so many great memories for me.

Glad you said it, the FIRST “American” hamburger! From German immigrants just like frankfurters, wieners, etc. Even wisconsin’s cannibal sandwich has origins from Germany where it is called Mettwurst. I always love seeing signs indicating brat fry in the area. It’s the same word in two languages! Bratwurst translates to fry sausage in English. Great video👍
@RayLeejr
@RayLeejr 3 месяца назад
Mettwurst is smoked pork sausage often made with garlic, a cannibal sandwich is made with rye bread, raw ground beef and minced onions, mettwurst and a cannibal sandwich are two totally different things, 🤪

I grew up in Seymour for the most part and I have to say it has changed a lot! The last time I was there was about 15 years ago. The building that is going to be the family insurance center was built in the 70s as a bank. I got my first car loan there! It was fun seeing all the old places that haven’t changed like the lake. Story was that there was a huge fish in there that nibbled on toes as you swam. I was terrified of that big fish lol. Thanks for the memories Sally!❤

The Outagamie county fair should be this weekend I think. Do they still have a Rodeo? We had a family gathering at different places in the state and would catch the fair and rodeo. Winnebago county fair should be first weekend next month. I have a list someplace of the weekends the fairs usually happen in Wisconsin and we use to go to many fairs in the summer. The last county fair of the year is Vernon county and they have the best tractor pull and car demolitions. Actually been a couple years since we went to them and the prices have really gone up I was told last summer. County fairs, Sate Fair, concerts at state fair or summer fest grounds, Friday night fish, all the things that use to be fun and affordable are much more just to travel to in the last couple years. Hope you guys stay safe and healthy. I don't know if you saw out west someone has been going around shooting wild horses, they shot 5 burros a couple nights ago in Death valley.

Lots of great memories! The new place for the insurance company was my bank for so many years. Hinter Clinic was our family doctor office (now Bellin I believe) And the biggest deal driving to Seymour was Don's Supermarket and the 'raw dog' Don himself would make. ❤ Plus of course many memories of the fair and the first Hamburger fest. Thanks Sally and Marty

What a cool video Sally and Marty! Growing up in Ohio I heard a story about the Menches brothers inventing the hamburger. And there’s so many claims to who invented it first but it looks like Seymour might have some strong evidence. I love towns with history like this, you’ve inspired me to explore some towns around my area.

The first hamburger was by my great great grandmother who was born as a Cherokee Indian. But it was made by Buffalo meat and not by a cow. But the Indian Nation didn't document their history. They passed it down by word of mouth from generation to generation.

Been wanting to see this video!! Seymour Wisconsin with statue of Hamburger Charlie. Make sense it would be at county fair. Meatball flattened into a patty makes sense and named after Hamburg Germany. 65 years is a long history. I agree with you on the invention. Wow the record hamburger made there. That is a historic spot in town with all that is there as far old rail artifacts. Seymour Museum is pretty interesting to visit and learn about Seymour. Burgerfest sounds like something I would love to go to. Small town museums with the old antiques. The story about J I hn Dellinger was interesting!! Old Hotel Seymour would be interesting to stay there. I have stayed at old historic places in Oregon and Washington. Love the 1 design of that brick church. Nice parks! Wow just noticed another tattoo of yours when you used the trapeze bar. Thanks for sharing the town of Seymour with us😂❤

You got me hungry for a hamburger! Haven't ate one for about a year. I miss those old fashioned Mom and Pop diners that have the good-ole hamburgers and fries, and you sit in a booth to enjoy your meal. The old styled soda fountain soft drinks in a glass, and you sit on a swivel stool next to the counter. Oh how I miss my childhood days in the early 60's...😀

At least there's only one city that lays claim to the invention of the hamburger variant known as the bacon cheeseburger: Lansing, Michigan, where a local franchise of A&W Drive-In restaurants came up with the idea of adding bacon to a cheeseburger, back in 1963!
