Common Garter Snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis) consume amphibians such as the American toad, rough-skinned newt, and red-spotted newt. these species are poisonous, and the garter snakes not only are resistant to their poisons (tetrodotoxin and bufotoxin) but they retain them, making the garter snake itself poisonous. Garter snakes are also venomous! though their venom is not dangerous to humans.
