The lead singer’s name is Johnette, and she is in fact a woman. She does have a very low, dark type of singing voice. It’s amazing to hear that her low notes could be mistaken for a guy. But regardless, she is a fantastic vocalist with an incredible voice. My all-time favorite female singer in music.
You ladies are doing exactly what I did when I first heard this song….rockin out. But then after hearing it over and over and watching the video….this woman is singing about her love who is clearly battling alcoholism in the video. You’d be forgiven for not realizing it right away….but maybe focus on the song and video as a whole before jumping in and snapping your fingers and enjoying the whole instrumentals, vibes and “his voice” (it’s a her)….it clearly goes over both of your heads
Just stumbled across this video when searching for Concrete Blonde reactions. Johnette is one of my all time favorites frmale singers. Im afraid it seems like you missed the seriousness of this song describing how alcoholism can strain and ruin a relationship. Sang from her point of view of watching her significant other battle his secret war.
Yup, people who have not listened to real music. A little tribute to the singer, Johnette Napolitano, that I made, 15 years ago, with the live version... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pTulD1ugDd0.html
I appreciate young people willing to listen to older music. But I have no idea how you could mistake Johnette's voice for a male. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, female rock voices ever.
great song from a very underrated group. the pearls of someone watching the person they love with an addiction. "Tomorrow Wendy" is also a haunting song also from the Bloodletting album about suicide that you should listen to when you have a chance
