The purpose of childhood is to be trained for adulthood. Playing, communication, education etc. are essential elements in equipping one for adult life. Similarly, emotional skills are vital - knowing when it is appropriate to laugh, to cry, to be angry even. My 30 year old adult children tell me that kids coming into the workplace today have none of the latter - they have been so protected they get upset over simple things - like being told to show up at work on time, or have their spelling corrected. What have we done to this generation?

I worked with a girl like that, early 20's though. Always wrote "payed" on receipts even though the computer screen had the total bar that read "Amount paid". She actually told me she didn't care if she couldn't spell, it's not important. Never mind that I am using the directions she writes out to make physical inscriptions onto objects, and having the correct spelling of the text is helpful. Brain dead people anymore.

This happens often in this age group. I work in a design based industry where daily criticism is part of the job. Recently I offered some constructive criticism to a millennial, she then started crying and said I was bullying her. That's millennials, it's not criticising them, it's bullying them.

Maybe the boss should just fire her. Teach a lesson about real life.

No shit when I worked at Cisco Systems they STOPPED stank ranking people because the younger employee’s had their mothers calling their managers.

Wow, when I was 18 and working in a factory in 1981 I was using a cutting saw to cut angle aluminum on a 45 degree angle. The pieces of extruded aluminum was barely long enough so the saw through these little jagged pieces of aluminum at me. I had on clear welding face mask but those pieces kind of stung when they hit me in the arms/chest. I asked the boss if I could make a plexiglass shield so the pieces would fly back at me and he said " be a man, those pieces only hurt for a little bit and you only have 25 pieces of aluminum to cut.......wow. I thought that was kind of cold but I just put on a heavy flannel shirt (in the summer) and kept cutting. During the recession of 81-83 we were glad to have a job. I wasnt about to whine to personnel (before they called it HR) over those jagged pieces of aluminum that stung "just a little" when the hit me. How times have changed.

5th grade is Generous. I can not picture anyone over the age if 6 having that conversation.

My wife had to have a 'chat' to a young girl in her office about having, and using her mobile phone by her desk. She was told "it's not acceptable to have a phone on your desk." The girls solution- To put her phone on her lap, and carry on as usual. She got fired soon after.

I loved this! I've never run into this but then again I'm retired and don't have to deal with this generation and their really bad understanding of how the world works. There is no shame; no apology; no manners; Could you imagine the Mom and the daughter having a conversation....I'd like to listen in on that one! or NOT!

I love when one anecdote is used to cover all millennials. I’ve never seen anything like this happen but these guys talk about it like it’s all millennials. I love when millionaires who are drama queens at work gossip for the public to see. Who’s the entitled ones? The two rich a**holes or the generation that has to work two jobs to be able to move out on their own.

Truth is not subjective. There is no "my truth". There is THE truth, and there are lies. There's very little middle ground.

I used to work at a hotel front desk. One of the employees was fired for stealing and she called her mom, who came and started arguing with the staff, the mom even called the cops. When the cop got there and we told him the situation, he told the lady that it was a civil matter and if he was 24, he certainly wouldn't have called his mom to come stand up for him. It was the most hilarious thing I had ever seen.

My wife and I have disagreements over this all the time!!!!! PARENTS ARE THERE TO TEACH YOU RIGHT FROM WRONG NOT BEING THERE BESTIES!!! They NEED YOU TO BE THERE PARENTS!!! You ALWAYS LOVE ❤️ YOUR BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN BUT YOU HIRT THEM BY BEING THERE FRIEND

I love that other story about that " Social Media Facilitator " girl who took a hissy fit. She approached an hotel with the view to having a free stay if she reviewed the hotel online. The hotel declined her offer and she went nuts . Heaven help us all.

Did her Mom not tell her about the dictionary. All else aside, this call should have gotten her fired. Not salvageable.

I drew a very cute picture of a hamster when I was 8 years old. It was pretty cool and my mom had it turned into a refrigerator magnet. She still has it. Under the hamster I had written "Bobby the HAMPTSER"..

Thanks for sharing this story. It is par for the course (unfortunately for America). Today we tolerate what was not tolerated years ago. Life has become too "PC" and too accepting of incompetence and mediocrity. What is worse is that "workers" like the example probably get inflated performance reviews (as they probably got inflated grades in school).

To parents: This generation is this way because they weren't allowed to experience things for themselves ("protected" from small appropriate growing experiences as young children, excessive overprotective parents, parents that didn't teach them to handle money and children as young adults still receive money from senior parents , didn't have them work after school, etc). Don't do these same things if you have small children now!

I work with millennials with "college degrees" (A-HEM) Anyway, where do I begin? They're from another planet. Zero personalities, no enthusiasm, and with the manners and respectfulness of a 8 year old. They avoid conversation and even eye contact. They are truly like being around people with serious mental issues. The crazy thing is they seem to glide along totally aloof without anyone confronting them, putting them in their place, or threatening their jobs. It's unreal.

There was this accounting firm that had their version of the truth, instead of actual truth. I think that was Arthur Andersen... Probably managed by hampsters...

The boss should pay her 1 penny in her pay check because that's what she deserves.

The worst part of this story is that you can read just about any website these days and find similar errors. I'm not referring to the single page, "Look: I have a website!" people make themselves, I'm referring to sites like: reuters, cnn, ap, where you would expect a professional to be behind the kayboard, but you'd be wrong!

I know this video is about working with people who are millennials but I would like to add that when you work with boomers their big issue is wanting to do things the way they have always done things and that is comfortable for them. Some of them have fought me tooth and nail about that because I wanted them to do something according to updated policy or new procedures and they would flip out on me. "Its worked fine this way for the last 10 or 20 years I've been here dammit..I'm not learning any computerized nonsense, etc." Its a challenge to work with a lot of people these days. Including X'ers as well.

She better watch out! Hamsters might become offended at the incorrect labeling and start a protest.

I am not surprised at all. I owned my own businesses until approximately four years ago and almost every millennial that I had to let go for one reason or another accused me of this or that and threatened to take me to court several turned me into the department of wage and labor when they would call me to get my side of the story they would immediately drop their investigation if it weren't so serious it would be funny and yep I did have a mother call me and cuss me out for firing her wonderful son even though he installed 11 windows upside down wasted an entire day with two other men helping him a few rolls of zip tap and on and on his mom refused to believe her perfectly wonderful son made such a huge mistake the following day I had to take a crew off of another job to get those windows removed and reinstalled correctly the financial loss was HUGE this was about ten years ago and I still can't believe it to this day. I never trusted anyone else until they proved over and over again they were capable of doing such a small job instead of turning it into a huge financial loss.

I’m ashamed to be associated with people like this because of my age. She should have been fired.

As a fifty something guy, I love all these youngsters. They are such terrible employees I keep my job.

That was a hilarious story. The same women who believes she should be entitled to being a director by the time she's 30. The millennials don't understand the value of hard work and putting in the time and think that big job titles and high salaries should be given to them.

Unfortunately, this is not an exception. It's the rule. When I was in management hiring people, I automatically discounted anyone who showed up for an interview with their parents. It did happen that I would go to the lobby to greet them and bring them to my office, and had to listen to a commercial from their parents about how I had to hire them because they were wonderful. If I didn't hire them, I would get follow-up calls from the parents, righteously indignant. How dare I not hire their child! I wish this wasn't real but it is. Years later, when I left the fast track, and became a Vocational school teacher, the harder part of my job, was teaching 18 to 25 year olds how to put words in alphabetical order, and how to write a business letter. It became so bad that with one class, after return a simple one paragraph letter to them for the 7th time, I had to explain that when writing letters, the city and state were capitalized, and other grammar school lessons. It was pathetic.
