The speedrunning community for Dragon's Dogma recently made a huge breakthrough with new strategies implemented... HavocSpill twitch - / havocspill Flyoutfate twitch - / flyoutfate
Encampment to oxanne, is it faster to go left of the ruins (instead of through), then pass through the channel on the other side of the same boulder? It feels like a straighter path, but I may be wrong.
@@The_Arisen we need a lot of time to test that - I was thinking of running a few tests sometime soon but your suggestion feels pretty solid. We can definitely test it out
The build doesn't seem to be a pure assassin, as far as I can tell, is there any particular reason for it? Without any context it kind of seems to me that would be best to give the highest chance to one shot everything. That and it seems like the Baleful nails were equipped every time a jail warp happened, but I'm not sure if it was needed for anything.
@@MarlowPreston every small optimization counts - this wasn't an assassin build, because Assassins don't have access to Skull Splitter, which is needed for the Everfall segment of the run. We're a strider for the entire run, although I've been considering the idea of a mid-run vocation swap utilizing the Fournival quest. The thing about it is we don't really know what would change in the run itself, so it doesn't seem worth it to incorporate yet
Speedrunner: Beats the entire game in less than fifteen minutes. Me: Day three of Bitterblack Isle grinding. I've forgotten what the sun looks like... Bomb supplies running low.
@@vladdracul5072 speedrunning is for people who have already beaten the game and want a harder challenge, so they create something new to do with the game they already beat they also end up discovering many things about how the game works
I remember that i once got stuck in Bittleblack when first playing because i had no idea what the teleport stones did (i did not know english very well at the time) i also had only had tMy personal pawn. Once i managed to get out i remember that (most) of the rest of the game was a breeze because i could one shot everything lol
Imagine being the duke and within the day of the dragon attack the new Arisen just kills the dragon. No time to even think about wtf just happened. Edit: Or being Gregori. Just made this Arisen and suddenly he's at your doorstep. "Uuuuh. I guess this person is your beloved do you want to OH WE'RE FIGHTING, oh I'm dead"
Just finally bought this game for short of a 5 bucks on steam and I just love how open the mechanics of this game are and how almost every mechanic interacts with another somehow. This game truly is a masterpiece.
I love this game. The story kinda sucks till you fight the dragon. But everything else is amazing. And sorcerer just feels soooooo fun to play. Very few games let you become OP with magic so easily. It's always gotta be balanced or underpowered so people will wanna play the other classes. DD Says screw that go drop a tornado an earthquake and a couple meteors on that chimera and have fun doin it. What's your favorite class?
@@MrMaltelein Holy focused bolt comestation that lightning whip spell and heck even ingle are very good spells. Sure sorcerer can do most of that and more but being able to also cast healing is good when low on curatives.
because they are not true speedruns. a true speedrun is from the fresh start of a game till it's end. The nature of the game here has sort of "main story runs" and these kind of "speedruns" require a lot of preparation in gear and character leveling first + going through the entire story once to get all the teleportation locations unlocked as well. So the preparations are anythign but "speed". that is why I guess that morrorwind is such a great game in terms of speedruns as it is truly from 0 to the end.
I actually wonder. If dialogs can stop the timer, and the ox still moves during the dialog, could it be an idea to kick the ox, talk to an npc, wait for the ox to stop running, close dialog, rush to ox and repeat to not let the time pass while the ox runs? If this can be done, then that might mean that the whole speedrun could be done in 6 minutes, maybe 7 or 8.
I discovered the jail bribe on my own yesterday when I was trying to sneak past the guard and they just didn't move while I was frozen in terror behind a box. Eventually I swallowed my fears, jumped out of the boxes ready to beat the shit out of him and turned out I could just talk and bribe like nothing happened.
I didn't think it was possible to get such a short run. My mind is blown! I did a speedrun once, but I wasn't all that seriously about it. I just wanted to unlock the reward costumes. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I clocked in at an hour and eight minutes. But wow, this run was skillfully done and amazing to watch. I have tried to do the skullsplitter everfall landing, I just don't have the knack. I end up faceplanting with a sickening yet hilarious crunch. I'm more for endurance challenges. I'm still pretty stoked that I was able to do the Bitterblack challenge, starting at level ten with a rusty weapon, and also abstaining from using curitives. But hats off to anyone who can speedrun Dragon's Dogma so effectively!
@@hugodogobob Ahh so that's how it's done. I didn't jump but I didn't run towards the edge either, I would attempt to step off from a stationary position instead. Thank you for letting me know!
@@helenrowan5383 no problem, I struggled for a while. Saw people doing it and was like wtf. And I accidentally did from a run in bbi in the helix place with the gorecyclops and was like oh, it was way simpler than I thought.
@@hugodogobob I'm definitely going to give it a go next time I fire up the console. I look forward to the day where my character no longer kisses the ground due to an ill timed skullsplitter.
This is super cool to see! I used to run this category like 3 years ago on console a little bit, I think 18:10 was my personal best (never fully grinded an optimal character or submitted to the leaderboards). Glasnonck's run had already stood for a while and the community and strat development seemed somewhat dead at the time, it's awesome to see people breaking the record and coming up with new tech. Makes me want to try running it again! ...Well, maybe I'll wait until someone figures out an ox skip, haha.
One of the best lines in this game...'Even in numbers, a weakling, is a weakling still!' Mass-congrats on a Dragonfotged experience! 👏🐉 *Edit: i'll need the 'delorion' to even come close to that lol
I know Biting Winds helps you get a short burst of dash but I never know until now that it essential for the speedrun and goddamn 6:29 looks like a freaking ninja Literally this run is "I am Speed"
@@LunarFortune Id like to see what 'as fast as possible' looks like in NG, where you actually have to engage the mechanics rather just spam blast arrows that were stockpiled in NG where you can take as long as you want.
Agreed, I only do New Game Hard any% and New Game Hard Hero (All Side Quests) speed runs. Nice to see how they'd tackle the problems these runs can give.
I'm writing this before watching the video, because even after seeing just the thumbnail made me go "what". So I went to check the leaderboard and then I noticed a funny thing: In real time the new record is 6:34 minutes slower than the previous record. Obviously for the leaderboard only the in-game time counts but it's kind of funny that if you wanted to watch a Dragon's Dogma speedrun it would be faster for you as a viewer to watch the "second-fastest" run.
Congratulations to them! Amazing time, did speedrun mode for the achievment, one of the best RPGs of ALL time, maybe surpassed by dragons dogma 2 XD lets Hope for the best
I am going to hand it to you. Your way of beating Seneschal is even faster then mines. I mean how I handle Seneschal is use the Maker's Finger to 1 shot Seneschal but you did it without a Maker's Finger.
Instant reset, this skill is op af, you can´t be damaged by maneaters and can kill/ scape a gorecyclops, i´m no apeedrunner but Strider / Ranger / Assassin are utterly broken and fun, we´re gods on this game lol.
Ol' Havoc sounds like he's a few chats with a discord moderator away from getting his egg cracked. Being a speedrunner is about as high-risk as you can get. Stay strong, buddy.
I've known you can bribe the guard after breaking out since like.... 2012 back on the Xbox 360.... If I knew a damn thing about the speedrunning community I would've said something.
Thank you! Also if I reply with the mod list I plan on downloading could you check and see if it’ll work? And make sure nothing conflicts. If not that’s cool just trying to get the best experience of this game
After finishing the game about 76-82 and at the start i feel very slow but every new game+ it made me very fast after beating the game 13 times i got too cocky and do a hard mode but i just keep dying so i got back to easy
0:50. How did you manage to use Mad Dash in this kind of area? I thought the only way to get Mad Dash is you are supposed to go to The Encampment first and talk to the innkeeper to select Set Skills. At 0:50, you have not even set your skills yet. I thought once Grigori turns your character into an arisen, you cannot have the Mad Dash yet even at level infinite.
New Game Plus allows you to carry over equipped skills so long as you were the starter vocation/had skills that matched the starter vocation of your choice in the previous playthrough!
14:24 and here i thought how badass she is by shooting the chicken and not even looking but no, she is talking to guard .. of course .. women :) Also .. FlyOutFate? For some reason it took me 18 minutes to realize its not FLY YOU FOOLS :)
