Simply commentates the Super Mario 64 speedrunning tournament! Mario 64 speedrunning is fun and epic, especially when the Super Mario 64 world record is being thrown around. Simply's march mario madness is coming up, very fun and real. This video isn't a super mario 64 speedrunner trying out SM64 on Nintendo DS. It isn't a riven montage either. This is a speedrun competition between two speedrunners to compete for the big prize. HOPE YOU ENJOY!

A box is technically a cube. So if we use 2^3 as an example size for said box and we multiply box*box (2^3*2^3) the answer is 64... So in summary: Boxbox = 64 Ergo Boxbox = Super Mario 64

If we define "box" as a 3 dimensional matrix, squaring "box" will yield another 3 dimensional matrix of the same size, but with each piece of the box having a larger magnitude. Therefore, "box^2" could equal "BOX" depending on how you define "box", however that "BOX" will be decidedly different than the "box" it started from.
@campbaron

boxbox squared = a cube containing 16 stars and Schrödinger's Mips simultaneously dead and also clipping out the box into a parallel world. Or something.
@lerikhkl

If b, o and x are variables, "box" means "b*o*x", which means that "boxbox" = "b*o*x*b*o*x". Using the commutative property of multiplication you can rewrite this as "b*b*o*o*x*x", which is the same as "b^2 * o^2 * x^2" which you can write as "(box)^2" i.e. BOX SQUARED QED
@SeeMyDolphin
@SeeMyDolphin 2 года назад
Also, if you consider "boxbox" as a string in a formal language, then given a a string, S, S^n is written as S repeated n times. Therefore if S = "box" then S^2 = SS = "box"^2 = "boxbox". Therefore, box^2 = boxbox Q.E.D.

easier: Let y = box Then boxbox = yy = y^2 = (box)^2
@jellomochas
@jellomochas 2 года назад
For all x, x^2 = x*x (this is how x^2 is intuitively defined). Thus (box)^2 = (box)*(box). Furthermore, when variables are multiplied, the operator * is usually omitted, i.e. (box)*(box) = (box)(box). By the associative property of multiplication, (box)(box) = boxbox. Therefore (box)^2 = boxbox. x*x = x only if x = 0 or x = 1; thus (box)^2 = box only if box = 0 or box = 1.
@Darticus42
@Darticus42 Год назад
You almost never omit the operator * and all other explicit delimiters (e.g. parentheses aroud (box) like you did) when dealing with multi letter variables. To see why this becomes ambiguous: is boxbox = box * box, b * o * x * b * o * x, its own variable, or some other wild combination? (box)(box) = box * box by associative (and multiplicative identity) property, yes, but writing it as boxbox is just being confusing even if you know that box is a variable beforehand. Put differently, omitting the operator is convention to make it easier for humans to read and write, not a math property. Where this operator IS still omitted with multiple letters is **string concatenation**, which proves my point that it should be 2*box. Quotes around string of text just for clarity (unambiguous if it wasn't inline in a sentence): you take "box" || "box" = "boxbox", which if you repeatedly concatenate the **same** string together can be represented as "boxbox" = 2*"box" = "box" || "box" (Tu-box, if you will). Simply's right here before he gave up. This is true with both literal strings and variables: for example, if we knew: y = box where y is a variable and {b, o, x} are all symbols, then: yy = y || y = boxbox (still unambiguous with explicitly defined alphabet symbols/terminals, variables, and grammar/parsing rules... even recursively :)
@Darticus42
@Darticus42 Год назад
Also, if you treat box as a variable number it's all meaningless anyway. if box = 0,1 then box^2 = 0,1 (not null string or "box"), and unless you accept the possibility that box = 2^1/2 (which is just irrational :) you can never get box^2 = 2 with standard arithmetic, let alone "boxbox". Alternatively box = box * box = box * box * box * ... if and only if box = 0,1, but 1) this doesn't generalize to unconstrained variable so dom is wrong that box^2 = boxbox in general, and 2) see above about ambiguity of omitting *

i dont think its correct to assume b o and x are separate variables. If they were, they would not be pronounced "box", they would be pronounced "bee oh ex". We have confirmation that it is pronounced "box", so I think its safe to assume that box is a single variable that just happens to be represented by a word as supposed to a single letter. In this case, boxbox would indeed be box^2
@Darticus42
@Darticus42 Год назад
I agree that "box" is a single variable but one step further: "boxbox" only has 2 "box"es if you count them, which would imply it's 2*"box" (Tu-box, if you will). Here the implicit operator is repeated concatenation (x*"text" as """adding""" same string of text to itself x times to make "texttext...text"). The only way "boxbox" could be "box^2" is if you treat the implicit operator as multiplication (e.g. writing x * y as xy) where the variable name is "box". But since there are only 2 boxes and not "box"^2 "box"es displayed in the final result, and this operator isnt ever implicit with multi-letter variables, this feels much less intuitive.

Alright guys (box)(box) means you have to do 3 variables multiplied by one another. Since "box" is one argument, you won't have to do regular foiling or anything because it would require a separation of summation. So it's just b^2 • o^2 • x^2 or box box or (box)^2. Keep in mind that box^2 would only square the last variable (x), making it box • x.
@SomeoneSomewhere42069
@SomeoneSomewhere42069 2 года назад
The only way you could turn this into a mathematical equation where the answer equals either 1 or 2, is if "box" was treated as one big variable like you would the "x" in "2x + 4 = 8". Under that pretense, the only ways you could spin that is by multiplying, or, pretend there's supposed to be a + in between the two boxes. If "Box = 2" was true, then if you squared it, multiplied it, or added it, the result would still be 4. Speaking mathematically, it only makes sense that Box = 1 and it was multiplied, "1×1=1". Speaking grammatically, it only makes sense that the singular for of the word "box" equals one. Speaking metaphorically, taking into account the aforementioned arithmetics, it only makes MORE sense that it equals one, if you take into account the fact that it's an individual streamer's name, as opposed to a group of, 4 streamers, for example. In the end, I don't think that BoxBox is meant to be the answer to an equation, rather, it is the equations itself "BoxBox = ?". It's supposed to remain a variable, left to be solved by the viewers, because at the end of the day, there is only one Box, and that is, BoxBox. I'm gonna go get ready for work now. I have to be there in 10 mins ago and I haven't gotten out of bed 😅

the answer to “(BOX)^2” is “B^2 O^2 X^2” saying “BOXBOX” implies that the name is mathematically displayed as “BOX + BOX”. Keep this information in mind. The equation that is “BOX + BOX” is in fact a solvable equation and the sum is “2B2O2X”. When Dom says “BOX^2” in the video, he is wrong. How do I know? Using the equation that is “(BOX)^2”, we distribute the square across all variables in the parentheses. We know we distribute the square because it follow the rules of the “Power of a Product”property. After squaring the variables, we got “B^2 O^2 X^2”. Therefore, both Dom and BOXBOX himself are wrong both mathematically and literally.
@ethanimus9241

If you consider BOX one variable, then you can assume BOXBOX is the same as BOX*BOX, the multiplication is implied, same as when you see 2x or 2yz, it's implied that 2x = 2*x and 2yz = 2*y*z... so, BOXBOX is not BOX + BOX, it's actually BOX*BOX, or BOX^2

Box x box can never equal boxbox. The same way 2x2 is 4 and not 22. If box is represented by 0 or 1 then box x box would equal box, but if box is represented by 2 or any higher number then at minimum it would be boxboxboxbox and with every number higher than 2 it would get really boxy. Another way to look at it is 2x2=4 and 4 is a different number to 2 so in this scenario if box is 2 then box squared would not be boxbox but would instead be something completely different which could not be accurately represented by anything that contains the word box one or more times.

If I have two values, x and y that multiplied together equal z, you can write it as xy=z. This is because similarly to coefficients like 3x, it is implied the two values are multiplied together. If x and y in this example both happen to be the same value (say 2) then we could right it instead as xy=4. Since x=y you can substitute x=y into the equation and get xx=4 or x^2=4. Now if we consider box a variable which is how most people seem to interpret it including yourself (" If box is represented by"). boxbox would imply box x box which is just box^2 No one in their sane mind writes xy to define a value that is equivalent to 10x + 1y like you did with the 22 example.
@dsads4369
@dsads4369 2 года назад
@@bugsybro3011 You're right it would be insanity writing it as 22. That was in reference to what Dom said in the video. Simply said (paraphrasing) "1x1 is 1" and dom said "yeah but what is 2x2?". Dom was trying to use 2 to represent Box in that scenario to show box squared is boxbox but for box squared to be boxbox in that scenario then 2x2 would have to equal 22.

Wth, this is not that hard, so let it be explained by someone who studied math: 1 times 1 equals 1 exactly because it is the neutral element (aka identity element) towards mutliplication in Zermelo-Frenkel Set theory which describes the generally used set of axioms in every day life. That same theory also describes how 1 is the only neutral element towards multiplication and so Box² would only be equal to Box if Box is exactly equal to one, but even then it would also be BoxBox (and BoxBoxBox and BoxBoxBoxBox and so on) at the same time. In almost all other cases Box² would only be equal to BoxBox and not Box or BoxBoxBox or BoxBoxBoxBox. Almost all other cases because there's also a non-general solution without the neutral element which is if Box was equal to negative 1. Then Box² would indees still be equal to BoxBox (as im every possible case) and would still not be equal to Box or BoxBoxBox, but would be equal to BoxBoxBoxBox or in general Box^2n with n∈ℕ. I'll add some links for further reading in the reply to this comment.
