When that first shattered, I thought he is a quality individual and he will pick up that glass and you did. Joseph you would never let me down stay true to yourself and your values. That’s what we love about you.
Dude that totally sucks! Kudos to you for cleaning up the glass! Unfortunately some people would have just driven off and left it. You're a good man sir.
You can measure the character of a person by how they handle disappointment and misfortune. When I saw Joseph clean up the glass....my man 👍 much respect.
Part of vanlife. Been full time 4 years now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And thank you to those folks who leave places better than they found them. 😊
Oh man! That was brutal. You are dealing with it amazingly well. I too always try to find something to be grateful for when stuff goes sideways. You got this!
It’s really nice you have family nearby ❤. Sometimes the best thing to do is just step away from the problem while you get into the right space to address it. Good luck Joseph. 💪☮️
When one of the rear door struts on my 2013 Grand Caravan failed (the strut piston seized) the weight of the door, plus my pulling, sheered the ball stud right off. When that happened, the full weight of the door was being suspended by only one strut, which is insufficient to hold the door up. The falling door came crashing down. Be very, very careful with those failing struts...those rear doors are heavy! Stand clear of the door whenever you start to pull it closed, just as you did Joseph. There's usually no warning when a strut fails.
@@mvrkmi I thought about that too. He was fortunate to not have the strut fail in the way you described. Had a car with those struts for the hood and began to carry a stick to prop the hood up when bot of them failed.
Hey Joseph, I am so sorry about your window. I hope you can get it fixed quickly. It is so nice at your cousins house I love it. It’s beautiful there. Thanks for sharing. Be safe out there. 🇺🇸♥️🫶🙏😎🏔️🚐🇨🇦
Wow! Joseph I was so shocked to see your back window blow like it did😮.My heart broke 💔for you. I sure hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later 🤞🤞🤞❤❤❤❤thanks for sharing.
How one handles a situation will always show their strength and character. To have cleaned up the glass is an other true testement of your love of the outdoors, nature and being mindful. I hope you get a new glass at the cheapest cost 🤞 insurance coverage hopefully. Sucks this happened to you. Much love 🤗 🤗
That totally sucks and so does a $300 deductible. Here in the states if something like that happens and you have the insurance that covers windows, you usually can get it done the next day or a couple days later and they come to you. Hope you get it fixed sooner than later, either way I hope you stay in good spirits!! ✌🏼
Wow. What an unpleasant surprise, teh shattering of that back window. Bummer! You figured it out quickly (I'd have never thought to look at those hydraulic lifts - who knew they could fail that way?!). Glad you're getting repairs lined up, and you've got good family that can offer a port in storm when something like this comes up. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry about the mishap. I would not have taken it so well. You are a good man. I think that is why I follow you. It is so hard to find people of good character now days. Hang in there Joseph. Your blessing will come.
😮 exact same thing just happened to me with a cubbord.... The cylinder made a Hole in the wall and the hinges wriped half the frame off! But it's not the back wall of my house! You always take life's curve balls with such grace ❤
Good luck with your window! I’m almost one week into living in my Honda Pilot! It’s certainly a bit of adjustment. For me it’s the heat at night and luckily I have a sunroof because without it I’d die!
Most unfortunately accidents happen. It’s good for you to keep a positive attitude. And take things a step at a time. Keep busy with what you can do. The time will feel like it’s flying. If you feel down about it. It will feel like time is going slow. And it won’t help things to move faster. Enjoy you’re time while you wait. I hope everything turns out well for you.
Joseph, you're resourceful and a builder. I would've just got a piece of lexan glass shaped it, mounted it and sealed it. Instead of going through insurance. Insurance is a scam for the most. They treat you like you're driving their vehicle and aren't afraid to tell you that when you need to use your insurance. Basically you're just paying them to use it.
Yes I recommend doing that. I think in my case the replacements I had in there were cheap and sadly not made to last. I wish I remembered what brand they were too.
Wow, what a bummer. When I saw the cliffhanger before, I couldn't figure out why it had shattered. The strut failure makes sense. I have a Town & Country with a strut that let loose like that on the same side. I was lucky that mine didn't get through the window and now I know that I have to be careful with it until I can replace it. There are videos here for how to do it, but I guess at least doing it through insurance means you can get that deductible out of the way for this year. It's great that you have family that has your back. Nice to have a place to hang out while waiting! Fingers crossed for best outcome!
Totally sux. My father in law had all kinds of trouble with replacement lift supports or whatever they're called on a tonneau cover for his pickup. Went through a few pairs before he mostly gave up
@@virginiajorgensen8614 and a mighty costly one at that!! Not sure where you live, but here in the states you can get coverage for glass dirt cheap and it's covered 100%. They'll even come to wherever you are and fix it and it usually only takes a day or 2 once you put the claim in, to have it fixed.
The upmost respect for you picking up the glass in the bush. majority would leave it sadly. crazy how deep you go into the woods and see beer cans and trash. good luck with the fix
At least it is not raining - that is true. But it is still the pits. When I was living in Alberta and driving country roads I had to up my coverage on glass because I was getting damage more often than not.
I’ve been paying car insurance for about 50 years not one accident or claim - still paying for insurance. I’m getting the feeling insurance is a scam generally.
Commenting at 5 minutes in. Be careful if it will raise your insurance rates next renewal. It's usually not worth the clean insurance. I had that happen to my 88 Bronco, except it was the helper spring inside the tailgate. They cut it off and replaced the glass.
That sucks, got to be careful with aftermarket parts just no quality. Well I guess it’s hard to find used parts under 300.00, say used hatch from auto wrecker. But I guess the issue is getting help to replace it
It's a sad good thing. For the obstacle.Would of not been...You would of had to sleep with mosquitoes way out in the bush.Joseph wishing you all the Best! Better days are yet to be.
This has happened to me when parking my car at a walking park after a walk thankfulllh opposed before the walk…. Either way… prices to get a window replacement and rods were going for 3 to 5 hundreds easy! I had a whole back door from a different car put in for a few hundreds…… I had a trailblazer with an Isuzu back doo afterwards! lol
I'm so sorry to see this happen to you, I think it may have been the ski boards that hit the rear window. Hope that they can fix it for you very soon so you can go and enjoy your adventures.
A lot of people who do vanlife don't realize how long it can take to get your van fixed if it's broken. I needed some work done on my camper van and it was going to be 6 weeks just to get the appointment for the inspection and possibly another 4 weeks for the appointment to do the repairs. And if you need a hotel room while you're waiting to get your van fixed it could cost you $200+ per night. Van life can be very expensive. You need to have a lot of money behind you for an emergency. I recommend you have at least $20,000 emergency money put away somewhere safe.
Your insurance with the Monopoly ICBC is pleasure so they can't do anything. Too bad you couldn't do the requirements to turn your van into RV but I assume they want fixed toilet etc. Was really hoping you would do sheet metal on both side of the back window with insulation to save costs and future issues plus you would make something awesome like usual.. Friggen sucks this happened but all things considered this is minimal. Hopefully you get a ton of views because the incident was caught on video, MAKE SURE you do a review and video clip if you bought the replacements on Amazon so hopefully seller reaches out with something (at least a refund).
Wow, you amaze me..... I would have been totally freaking out, ranting and raving until I took a breath and calmed down. I'm just at the beginning of the video but hope it all works out for you🐾🇨🇦
There i was waiting to see what adventure you was foing on and GODhad another plan. I jumped out my skin when the glass blew. 🫣 but look now joseph you are with a great friend and staying at his lake cabin till the van is fixed woww. that is what was planed for you to do. Relax buddy it’s just a window you will be ok. Enjoy the lake and diving relax see you soon. Michael UK ❤🙏👍😜
Yikes. I had to back up to watch that a couple of times. It surprised me but not as much as it did you. True yo form, you took care of the environment. I pray the insurance doesn't hassle you too much.
Bummer! Your last video had a great big cliffhanger so though I was happy to see this one I was also not happy to see what happened. Crossing fingers and toes it all gets worked out for you.
Dude i feel your pain! This just happened to my rear driver side window where my daughter sits. Still don't know the cause but it happened outside Cody Wyoming. Was an awful drive home to Calgary with the duct tape and garbage bags LoL.
Thank you Linda, even the thought alone is more than enough. 🙏🏻 If you did theres a button you can click on at the bottom of most RU-vid videos called "Thanks" with a little heart on it. That's one way to give a little something back to a creator should they have that option turned on, on their channel. I'm not sure if it will show that on a tv but it will be there on a phone, tablet, or computer.
👍 for cleaning up the glass. Some people would have just left the broken glass. I carry contractor garbage bags to clean up rec campground. It still mind-blowing that some people still dont clean up after themselves. Respect the world dammit.
Aloha I have the same van 🚐 and 4 years ago my rear window was broken by a wild base😢ball pitch a mobile repair company came to me cost was about$ 320 .best wishes at least it’s summertime Bishop
Why not just buy a used tailgate? You are a rockstar and could install easily, might be easy to find in white too. Actually, I like the idea I saw below, have sheet metal welded in, insulate it and use a Vantrue M3 2K 3 Channel Mirror Dash Cam. I use this Mirror dash cam in my van and love it.
My sunroof shattered in the dead of winter and I had to cover it with double contractor garbage bags taped into place with red tuc tape. That shit stayed in place driving 100 km/hr to & from work for 3 days till I could get it repaired 😂 Having to deal with that totally sucks! Hope it all works out!
I thought you had provincial vehicle insurance like we do here in Manitoba. In Manitoba, our glass is covered. I'm wondering why it isn't in B.C.? And what about any form of insurance on the struts from the company that made the van? Even if they were after-market struts?
