I ejoyed making them too. If I ever get around to really trying to make creator view a success, I'll revisit. I got distracted with a day job, courses, etc... Had to pay the bills and the indie app wasn't doin it, unfortunately.

Very direct and spot-on advice about design. "Let Apple design it" is why I've gotten out of cross-platform frameworks and going native. .NET MAUI runs on both, but the default design looks like WinUI, not iOS or Android. So I'd have to spend a ton of time redoing styles for different platforms to make it blend in. I don't care about Windows for my metronome app. My SwiftUI rewrite looks way better much quicker.
@seanallen

And I bet your users appreciate it! I always know when I'm using a non-native app and hate it.

Super useful video! Enjoyed it till the last minute. Do you think there might be a point for the very niche app when you wouldn't need App Store ads if you appear on the top for majority of keywords anyway?
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
Glad you liked it, Andy! This is my opinion, but I think there will always be some need for ads as it's unlikely you will rank high for EVERY keyword you would like to. But yeah, once you're ranking high for the majority of your keywords, then you can pull back on ads a bit. But I think it's best to always have at least something going towards ads.

Hey Sean, great video. I watched your last episode and understood the numbers behind why to ask for a review after onboarding but I still don’t understand why a user would review if they haven’t tried the app? Are they just randomly hitting 5 starts due to the premise sounding good? Or are they getting prompted again? A bit confused
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
Tough to say what each individual is thinking, but the idea is that they are in a tapping mood as they go through onboarding and as long as that experience is good and the app looks good, a small % of people will tap 5 stars. It may only be like 3% of people, but that adds up over the long run.

Thank you for such useful videos for people who want to make useful products. My question is partly off topic, but I'll ask it anyway. I saw that you have created a separate company "Creator view L.L.C.". Can you recommend a service or a personal accountant for opening and running a company?
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад

Great video, especially the explanation about ASO. I have a question about this: If I already have a keyword in the title, is it redundant to mention it again in the sub-title or keywords or does it help with a higher ranking?
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
According to App Figures repeating keywords is one of the worst things you can do. They say the algorithm picks up the last instance of a word. So if you put a keyword in your title and in your keyword list, it only "sees" the one in the keywords list. Therefore eliminating the benefit of having it in your title.

I download app for first time, I go through onboarding and on the end of onboarding I was ask to review the app. So, only usege of app is that I went through the onboarding, nothing else. How I can give review, based on onboarding page? That seems unfair to me, give me some time and later (for example weak later) show popup review.
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
I understand what you are saying and that was my thought too. I'm doing both at the moment. I'm showing it after onboard, but I'm also requesting review at the "right" times (after some time, when the user does something meaningful in the app). Ratings are so important for ASO that I'm willing to take the hit on user experience until I get enough to start ranking. Then I can pull back if need be.

Another great episode. Thanks. I got a little confused around the 34min mark when talking about CPT vs CPA. I think you said the CPA was $3 based on 3 taps (a dollar each) and 1 download. But wouldn't the CPA only be a dollar since there was only one download? CPT would be $3? I guess this can get into the weeds a bit but I wonder if Apple would charge you for every down funnel action for any one particular user (ie, impression, tap, download, etc). In other words, if a person ultimately downloads your app, do you also get charged an impression and a tap for that person? Thanks again.
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
Happy to clear that up. You pay Apple for the ad when someone taps on your ad. It doesn't matter if they install it or not. If they tap it, you pay. So if you pay $10 for 10 taps, your cost per tap (CPT) is $1. An "Acquisition" is when someone actually downloads your app. So let's say you get 2 installs from those 10 taps that you paid $10 for. You paid $10 and got 2 downloads. So your CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) would be $5. Does that clear it up?

Why not "Creator View: RU-vid Tracker" instead of "Creator View: Tracker for YT"? Or "Creator View: YT Sub Tracker"
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
Semantics. I can't use "RU-vid" in my title unless it's referential. Apple has rejected my app due to using another brand (RU-vid) in my app name. So it has to be "for RU-vid".
@ToddHoff
@ToddHoff Год назад
What's the logic behind asking for a review before they've even used your app?
@seanallen
@seanallen Год назад
Hey Todd, ratings are so important for ASO that I'm willing to take the hit on user experience until I get enough to start ranking. The logic is that enough people will hit 5 stars and move on to make it worth it. So far that's how it's playing out, but it's something I'm going to continue to track. If I start getting a lot of poor reviews, I can pull back on it. Or... once the app gets enough reviews to start ranking, I can pull back. But so far, it's working well for me. Getting way more reviews and only a couple negative ones.
