You need to put paint over those marks on the tree. Trees can die from damage to the bark because illness and parasites can come in that way.
@dgmt1
@dgmt1 Год назад
This comment needs to be far higher. I doubt Shad understands the damage he is doing but it is frustrating to see live trees get damaged without considering the long-term effects. My family just went through a massive expensive of having to take down a giant red gum due to its decoration from insects and infection after being vandalized about 10 years ago. There is just no need to damage trees like that for a youtube video when there is plenty of dead wood to test against.

It most likely has a very thin edge which would make it deform easily compared to other swords. This is the trade off for insane cutting power.
@leonardomarquesbellini

XVIIIc blades tend to be quite fragile when properly sharpened. It's just what happens when the blade is that thin.
@leonardomarquesbellini
@leonardomarquesbellini 8 месяцев назад
@@finalbossdit's weird how these blades even managed to become popular in the late 15th century, since this is when infantry started to really get armored up. You wouldn't think a blade made for chopping, but fragile against hard targets, would become popular when pretty much every target around was hard. But it did.
@coreygraybz
@coreygraybz 4 месяца назад
Since armor required other means of damage like blunt force trauma or joints, it makes sense to design a weapon that is better suited to less armored targets. You would switch weapons depending on the need to do so.

@fly1ngG0PHER
@fly1ngG0PHER Год назад
I received a spearhead from Balaur Arms with a damascus core a little over two weeks ago, and it looks like the only thing holding the core to the edge is solder. There are big blotches that are almost certainly welds to fill the gaps between core and edge that look so bad I actually put a little alcohol on it to check if it was paint. The edges are completely dull, there is visible scale left on parts of the blade, and there is a literal hole through the center of the blade that you can see straight through, which they somehow missed during the patch job with the welder despite it being directly next to the blotches. And on a lesser note, the socket was filled to the brim with dead red spiders from being left in storage for a long time. The key word here appears to be “consistency.”
@ryanmccauley3926
@ryanmccauley3926 Год назад
The 5 most recent balaur arms sword models were made by lk chen and his people who specialize in functional and affordable Chinese weapons and he pumps out consistently good blades, all the issues with this specific blade are specific to pretty much all lk chen blades, theyre well made tough quality steel they just need a little sharpening kus they can't really ship razor sharp blades over a certain size from china but lk chen has a very good reputation, before balaur outsourced production to an unreputable Indian company then to windlass which is decent but their quality control isn't great, lk chen is better on all fronts so these new models should be awsome besides the edge which they make close enough to sharp that you wouldn't need to spend more than a minute or two on a stone and won't have any noticeable secondary bevel unless you put one on yourself

Hey Shad, you’ve been crushing it on FNT. Great stuff. I was watching you’re channel before you were that cool, though. 😁

Great video! Beautiful sword. Just kinda disappointed that we didn't get to see how well it can cut after sharpening and all. Was looking forward to it.

There is a woman on RU-vid with a sword made specifically for chopping wood. I would LOVE to see Shad review it and see how tough it would be and how it would fair as a combat sword if you had to use it as such. I think that would be a fun video.

Thank you for converting kilos to freedom units. I knew 1.5 would be a little over 3.25lbs but I wasn't sure by how much without a calculator. Damned fine review.

I would definitely recommend "Living Anachronism" here on youtube for that. He was a wonderful series on how to put an outfit together, from noob larp to really authentic looking.

That is definitely a late medieval warsword. I have always looked at the XVIIIc as the warsword version of the XVIII oakeshott typology, and the XVIIIb as the longsword, although I am aware that I am over simplifying it. I wonder how wide a blade has to be to fit into the XVIIIc catergory, always assumed over 2 inches at the guard followed by the tapering blade profile.

yep, over 2 inches wide at the base qualifies as 18c for that type, following that everything else is in proportion.

@@MizraimEvans That's what I gathered from my research into the XVIIIc. Cheers.

Shad, Consider making a “Helmet of the destroyer” for these videos. Safety glasses are great but a rogue snapped blade could still hit your face pretty bad. Plus another cool medieval fantasy project on your plate, after the titan sword of course
