Tbh, America isn't the best country to drop out of school for gaming. In South Korea a LOL player known as Faker (real name 이상혁) dropped out of highschool and ended up becoming a professional gamer. Since then he has made a good million or two. But kids still finish school anyways, Faker's case is a very rare one and most likely won't happen to you.

Now every parent that looks at this will think video games are a problem and not the fact that this guy is addicted.

I'm a huge fan of video games, but dropping normal life for video games 24/7 sounds fucked.

To be fair the school system in the U.S. is fucked. High school is a complete waste of time and I haven't needed to know or used anything they taught me. In fact I went to a votech school while in school basically to get out of doing school and for half the day I would go there. I chose automotive repair and it has been more useful than anything I learned in highschool.

wow this helped me a lot because i showed my parents this video because they took my xbox away because i wasn't doing as well as i should have been in school and they thought i was addicted when really it was a way to relieve stress like the video said because i was always busy and there always a place to be or a another thing to do and i never really stoped and asked myself is this what i wanted to do and i ended up quitting a lot of things in my life that i didn't feel a need to do anymore to release some stress and it worked trmendously this video was a major help in my life and thank you for posting it @ReviewTechUSA

I have a family member who has always played lots of video games. Later on in his life he got involved with the wrong crowd and became addicted to crystal meth. Now he has been clean for years but stays up all night smoking weed and playing ARK on his PS4. If these parents went through what my sister did taking care of HER child, then they wouldn't be complaining.

yeah I played a shit ton of video games as a kid and continue to do so. But I don't struggle to articulate my thoughts. I'm often told I'm relatively expressive. If this kid "struggles to formulate a sentence", video games aren't to blame. I still play often and I'm more successful than most of my peers in highschool who didn't play them. Tired of this fucking narrative about video games.

I'm pretty sure the kid didn't just drop out of high school to be a "pro-gamer" There may have been issues in school like bullying that fueled the decision to drop out and as the interviewer said, video gaming was his escape.

Even if this kid dropped out of high school to play videogames, he would STILL be able to make a career out of it. He can be a Twitch/RU-vid let's player, and maybe even accept donations. He can learn to make his own games. (It's easier to do using Unreal Engine 4 and UE Blueprints.) The information and assets to learn to make them are available for free all over the internet. He can even go pro.

In high school and college I played 6-10 hours a day depending on the day. I also made great grades, played basketball and football, spent 2-8 hours with friends outside. The only thing I didn't do well was spending time with family. Now, as an adult I may get 10 hours a week during a good week. My time goes mostly to my family.

I went to one of those wilderness programs and I have to say that it was some the best weeks and worst weeks of my life.

Well, you said it, addictions are not a disease, but a symptom, the brain basically needs its fix every day and there are a lot of sources, some people get it by eating, some people by being with people, working out, sex, learning things, solving riddles, etc. The problem is when that person for any reason, can't get their fix by natural means, so they have to resource to something else and well, video games is one of the most tamed ways.

I'm addicted to food, and video games. Trust me, that's the two worst combinations.

It's awesome that she didn't blame video games as the cause of his problems like all other media does. Games in moderation is actually healthy. It's also cool that she knows the average gamer is 35 and older. Too many people in the media still view video games as a child's toy and they're idiots. Some games have had larger budgets and made more money than big Hollywood films. The next generation will really blur the lines between movies and games as better tech is being used in the gaming world. Pong machines were origionally set up in bars. Video games were never meant to be only for kids. People can become addicted to anything but video games are usually a way for them to escape existing problems. I have played them my entire life and will continue playing until my final days. I don't comment as often as I should but thank you for your content. I used to be addicted to gaming, my parents wanted me to stop, so I played less. So then I got into skateboarding, now my parents wants me to stop because of getting countless of injuries and it fucking frustrates me!
