If you want to play a tall defender who is a little slow, drop coverage is your best bet without helping, and you can’t really help comfortably on this mavs team
@@BoosterGoldEarth6 In real time ? I'm pretty sure you tell your team beforehand if your gonna do drop coverage or not. And against which players you can and cannot drop. Most of this shit isn't "in real time", it's just defensive gameplan.
I seriously think part of it may just be general defensive laziness in the modern nba. They know guys aren't gonna sell out like that play after play after play, so they just have them drop instead.
Ant scores 24 in the 1st quarter and then they sit him the first five minutes of the 2nd quarter. I was yelling at the screen get his butt off the bench wtf are you doing?
The entire Wolves subreddit was trying to sell me copium about DDV being some defensive badger and 3-point shooting guru. He shot 1-6 today, has a 3-point percentage well below 30% through his first 4 games, and has made countless defensive mistakes. God I miss KAT. That team had so much chemistry. This one is a dumpster fire even with Randle dropping 30 every so often
Drop coverage is the worst thing you could run against this Mavs team. Did they not learn this in the WCF? lol. Dallas has gone 8-2 against Minn the last 10 matchups. Straight domination
This backpedaling away from the ball and giving them a free path to the basket is precisely why this narrative that the league has more talent than ever is bullshit. The league has less defense than ever is what it is.
I know you mostly do defense, but Anthony Edwards was 8-9 for 24 pts in the first 12 minutes, then 3-11 for 13 pts for the remaining 36 minutes. I didnt feel like the Mavs actually did anything to stop him, outside of maybe applying a little more pressure at the 3 pt line, but he just...completely disappeared. The Wolves having absolutely no idea what to do with him, or how to get any consistency of performance out of him, seems worth discussing. Anyway, love the channel.
To think the Timberwolves were the top rated defense in the NBA last year. It’s frightening to see the lack of of communication and the complete lack of a workable defensive philosophy. This is why Dallas rolled them in the playoffs…drop coverage is not defense especially against Dallas. The lack of coaching is astounding and the regression of the entire team is downright shameful. If any NBA team makes a commitment to play proper defense they are guaranteed a spot in the Conference finals.
So frustrating to watch as a Twolves fan. You learn and practice defensive communication before high school so it should be second nature. You think it's dumb and pointless until disasters like this happen. The worst part of all this is we had to watch the Mavs torch us 5 games straight last postseason and we come out and do literally nothing different than what got us eliminated. How zero adjustments are ever made is beyond me.
There's no reason to have your arms extended when you're guarding a screen. It's easy to raise your hands. It's body position that stops offensive players from exploiting a screen.
I dont think the highlights are going to cover Finch ABSOLUTEY ICING Ant to start the 2nd for a full 5 minutes. Finch also just keep putting in his geriatric corpes of Conley and Ingles over Minot and Dillingham is just nuts.
They wanted to try to get a win to water what happened in the playoffs. Dillingham isn't ready for all that. Let him play against the wizards and hornets.
Drop coverage only explanation is it has to be a stats play. give up lightly contested 2s in the mid range over open 3s. Force decisions instead of being at the mercy of the guards who will destroy that hard hedge or foul your big out flopping
Do you blame it on the coach? Are we gonna ignore the fact that this team isn't the same as last year. If it ain't broken don't fix it. They're not as good as they were last season.
Can someone tell me why drop coverage is good? I get that most bigs cant guard opposing guards but they let professional players shoot midrange and floaters? Also how do you guard pick n pop this way? You're always giving up shots
