I have a down bag I bought in 1974 made by Jones tent and awning in B.C. Should at least win longest usage.

Since I camp from late spring to early fall, I made my sleeping system from 3 wool Army blankets. I sewn 2 of the blankets completely together, and sewn the third along 1 long side along the bottom and about half way up the third side. It is comfortable for me.

I wanted to grab me some issued blankets but add some linens on one side secured with a cross hatch stitch to keep down the itching.

@@basiliohernandez5111 Amazon. I got mine off Amazon. It's easier to use a sleeping bag liner. It's just a sheet that's in the shape of a sleeping bag with a zipper. This has the benefit of being removed to wash, whereas wool might deteriorate in the wash

I am watching this in a tent! I have the opposite problem though. It hit 44° along my ride today. That’s over 110°F! Someone needs to develop a sleeping bag filled with ice cubes! Hope you’re well!

I put my DP0 in an REI 20L compression bag. But your point is valid that it does make it a non-flexible brick, although a much smaller brick.

Zenbivy 10 degree down bag! It actually has all the features this Big Agnes sleeping bag does. Not having the bag bunch up on you when you roll over in the middle of the night is a revelation! Biggest difference from Big Agnes is it packs WAY small in its compression sack (about soccer ball size), saves me a ton of space.

This is a long time out since you made this video & maybe you know this now too. Big Agnes (& probably others) make a compression strap that you can use with any stuff sack. For me it takes patients to get in on straight & even but it works amazingly well! Thanks for this video, I have a synthetic 0° Big Agnes bag THAT I LOVE LOVE LOVE & pad & am ready to get on that is down so watching this was very helpful in my decision making. Their system attaching to pad is life changing. Happy Camping!

Thanks for the video. Like the features of the “Big Agnus”. End screen. I ended up making my own top quilt using material from “rip stop by the roll”. I combine that with a insulated sleep pad from “Klymit static V” for hammocks ( the pad has wings that envelops you whilst. In the hammock). I stay warm and have a great sleep. ;)

Holy grail bag is the one that works for you I guess… I sleep cold as well but live in the north east so I’m only camping in 35+. A 30 degree bag with a decent pad and pajama will do the trick. But all the nice features is what really makes the difference. Love the channel keep it up. Would love to meet you on the trial or at camp!

Hey Amanda, After years of camping and trying lots of brands, we settled on the Big agnes big creek double wide bag in conjuction with the Big agnes Q-core SLX insulated pad. Both are double wide so they fit 2 people. I cannot say enough good things about this sleep system. We feel like we are sleeping in a hotel with a luxury quilt on us. So soft and comfy. Expensive, but money well spent. I use a compression sack for both and they don't take up more space then a single person setup.

Having lived and worked in Alaska for many years, I use a Wiggy Bag. My son turned me on to it when he used it in the Alaska National Guard in some pretty gnarly conditions. I’ve Bivouacked on beaches, used it on my motorcycle rides across Canada and to Texas. It’s been an amazing sleep system for me and my wife. Thx for your videos and reviews.

Amanda, As always I enjoy your videos and your reviews. I winter camp and have for decades, I’m going to take a good look at this bag, I’ve had hyperthermia before and it wasn’t a pleasant time I can assure you. I’m always looking for better, the pad and bag combo may fit the bill. The cost of a bag is irrelevant when your cold, it’s too late when your out and have to say “I wish I had” I’d rather say “I’m glad I have”!

I'm still looking for the ultimate sleeping bag. I've owned at least a couple of dozen inexpensive bags that would have easily covered the cost of one excellent bag. However, I never had the money to purchase one for myself, let alone my family. Perhaps now that I'm retired... :D

That is an important point, we tend to spend a lot of money trying to find the sleep combo that works. I’ve just discovered sleeping quilts / bivey bags. For those interested in heading that direction google “convert mummy bag to a quilt”. There are some options out there to test without spending the money to switch. I’m using my mummy bag as a quilt right now with a simple strapping system and my pad. I love it so far and will be converting in the future. Not sleeping sucks! 😊 Great vid, thx!

I’m a warm sleeper…Got the Big Agnes system too… insulated QCore pad with either the echo park 40 (summer) and echo park 20 (colder season). If the temps are to hit that low a closed cell foam pad under it all makes a difference. Im a side sleeper that moves alot. That’s why I like the bigger bag.

My Holy Grail of sleeping bag for me is the classic old green army mummy bag with a silk lining. When it's warmer I use it as my ground pad. I've had several people lay on it to check it out and they were asleep by the count of 10 LOL I used 2 Indian blankets for sleeping in when it's warm and ground pad when it's cold. I have never been cold in that bag. Even the time I woke up and my pants outside the bag were literally stiff as a board and stayed flat and their shape when I tried to stick them in the bag with me to warm up so I can put them on. I really did not want to get out of the bag that morning LOL have fun can't wait to see the videos from your trip

I have an exped downmat lite I bought years ago... I hate the long tubes.. I recently got a nemo tensor... It's nice but i still feel the weird pattern in the blow up.. I've started putting my z lite fold up pad on top instead of below it and that made a world of difference.

I do camp and will be camping on my next summer outing. I am not sure if buying a BA bag is what I need, more than what I want. I have a camp quilt and bag both down. Maybe if those fail to keep me warm I will be looking to spend some serious money on this product. ANSWER: The perfect bag for me was one of those flat heavy queen-size car camping sleeping bags that was like taking all of your blankets with you. I got mine at Sears and still use it but not moto camping.

I'm totally sold on down quilts with insulated sleeping pad combo. I am usually in warm climates at night (>40F+) and like to uncover or cover quickly. If I do get caught on a cold night I use plastic alligator clips on my sleeping pad for more of a mummy style. I was a thru hiker so the bagged softball size and small weight was important. This also helps keep a lightweight bike light.

I'm a fan of the OneWind Poncho/Quilt. I have used it for a summer trip and recently a winter trip in florida. It's only $50 and packs nice and small. I'm not sure if it's the best for all situations, but for the kind of budget I have it is spectacular. I use it with a small blanket atop my sleeping pad and will now wear socks when I sleep to keep my toes extra warm in the foot box.

Great info. I have the Nemo Disco ladies bag . It is warm but I am a slide sleeper and as you said it is always fussy. I love the seata summit sheet. It adds quite a bit of extra warmth and keeps my bag cleaner. I think I will start saving for this bag though as it seems way more verse with adding the wedge as a top quilt. I fight terribly with my pad and next trip I am going to bring my exped. I LOVE my exped! Thank you so much Amanda for this great review. We like to say buy nice not twice. Or in my case sometimes 4 xs. Ughhh. Lol. Thanks again! Smiles, "A" Lowery 🙂

To be honest the best sleeping system starts with the groundsheet under your tent ! I have a roll of plumbers air cell insulation that is cut to the size of my tent footprint , that stops the cold ground and protects from punctures in tent. I have a modest self inflating mat. I’m Australian so my sleeping bag of choice is a Mont.

The pillow Barn is definitely a weakness in the sleeping bag. I had the exact same problem with the rip but did not over stuff it. Big Agnes did step up and replaced it with a new bag. Definitely a comfortable bag, just a little big for motorcycle camping for me. Enlightened equipment is a way better bag in many ways.

I yelled and yelled.. AMANDA!! AMANDA!!!! But, either I spooked you as a weirdo or you didn' t hear me. Big Bend NP. Sunday March 6th, late morning, My group of students was getting into a van at the Fossil Bone exhibit and I looked up... and saw you coming in on the bike.. almost positive it was you. You were headed our way, "I know her~~!" I told the students. Then made a 180 without stopping...... You exited and head north to Persimmon Junction.. we were headed south... Heavy, heavy sigh, girl... was so hoping our paths might cross in a real conversation for a few moments. But, given my volume and antics at waving at you, thoughts of an ax murderer might have been a normal reaction.. hmm, especially at a bone exhibit, now that I think of it. Oh well. Stay safe... Hope you enjoyed the park and road from or to Presidio....

What sleeping pad do you use with the bag? Is it inflatable, and if so, how thick and does it make it possible to sleep on uneven/rocky ground? I carry a small cot with me on my trips to take care of that particular issue, but it also means there’s cold air underneath me.
