It's so easy to get lost in small details and specific facts when learning. This video is about the importance of getting the big picture when learning and note-taking.

Wow, you had a great teacher - and by his model, you became one. Clear, simple, beautiful and engaging, you captured information, broke it into patterns, so that we could see the patterns to capture information. Which is analog to the storing and consumption of sunlight - supporting your earlier note, that learning is like digestion. You blow me away, Samuel. Many thanks! 🙏🏻

Now I get it why you aren't releasing/selling your notes despite high demand. Because that was never the point. You discovered the process and believed in its capability to transform learning. That's why you shared that story with us. Focusing just on that one subject note will again force everyone into focusing on the end products rather than learning the process themselves. Thank you so much such amazing videos! ♥

Definetly you should teach people. You have an innate gift!!! 90% of my teachers should learn from each single video you've posted in youtube. Peace and love from Spain!

This is SO true! I am always looking for the bigger picture but the professors don’t always do the best job to tell you the context of the details you’re learning. It’s really frustrating! Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Samuel!!!!

If your professor is not giving you the big picture, ask for it, learning at a university level should be a two-way process. I will put the proviso in that there are some lecturers/professors that will look at you blankly and go back to listing chemicals or articles of law. In that case go to the library, just find the dummies guide to your subject matter, I don't mean the brand of books just the simplest version you can find and dive in. I have never stopped learning, and hopefully I never will but that's polymaths for you.

This one video has literally changed the way I approach my Nursing Degree. I am now going to re go over my notes to make sure I understand it on all levels, not just the bits of information I need to know. I think you should consider a RU-vid channel teaching Biology / physiology. The way you explained photosynthesis and cellular respiration was amazing, and I understood how they relate together.

Honestly, I started writing notes like this for about 30 days now and it's a game-changer! I felt so stupid for the past years mindlessly highlighting and writing the lectures in front of me. But, now I started doing mindmaps and actually ask myself the questions about why and how it relates to the bigger picture. You learn faster, it sticks in your brain and makes it more interactive!

The more I kept watching the video, the more my eyes were getting wide open with realisation. This was just great. It's been years since I've actually realised and learnt something from RU-vid video and that too in such a beautiful way!

This video summarizes about me who learns every single details, make connections and stories to store it in my long term memory. I couldn't learn anything new if I didn't fully understand the old materials. I just keep building blocks of knowledge on top of the things that I've learned. My perfectionist mindset of wanting to know everything takes so much time and effort but it really pays off at the end. I could relate to you so much and thank you for your top notch quality videos.

Beautiful notes but also a great video in so many other ways. It's so great the way you have one concept per page and break down each element. This is such a better way to learn as opposed to just text and bullet points. I remember when I was in school, I would take notes and then never look at them again. But, with these kind of notes, I would definitely come back to them over and over again. Bonus is that I learned about photosynthesis. You're a very good teacher!

It feels weird now to think back of the time when I figured it all out by myself. The technique of connecting the dots. The phase when I was just asking questions and questions. That is how I came to know that biology (at least) is mostly about etymology ; it's a game of words. And also if I think of every subject as a historical event, it somehow makes a lot of sense and is seemingly enjoyable. And this venture of mine is still going on... At the end, what we are searching for is just a way to be the best of ourselves, but it would be better to know that there is no best. We just keep evolving every second as we move forward in life. Just an opinion ✌🏻

It is said a good teacher is one who makes the student want to learn (curiosity) and the bad ones are the ones that just tell you what will be on the test. You have a great teacher, yet what this video has shown is the student has now become the master. I let my daughter (only 6) watch your videos because I want her to know how to learn whilst she has started her educational journey. Right now though she is tracing over a cartoon snow leopard after I taught her your technique for taking visual notes. I thank you so much Samuel.

Going through college (as we say in the USA) or “University” as you refer isn’t easy and is VERY time consuming. It’s also very evident that you are extremely gifted at encouraging others. And for that we are ALL grateful! Wishing you much success and happiness in the future! (I also love sharing your videos with my youngest daughter … who is in her third year of “University” 😀). And I, a consulting engineer, also continue to be inspired by you … that learning never has to stop. Keep up the great work Samuel!

Literally the first things we learnt in chemistry/biology is what different prefixes and suffixes like "lysis" or "synthesis" mean. Saves a lot of time trying to explaining every single word. Especially important with molecules and structures. What I've noticed, is that a lot of people try to understand the topics from the wrong end of the story. Unless you have a basic understanding of the bigger picture or the reason why you want to understand a detail, there's no need for even trying to understand the detail.

Thank you so much Suresh! Edit: why I feel the joy feeling this slim device is knowing that all my study related material is all in one place safe because of iCloud and knowing that I can also edit that write over it, highlight it and erase it on that same device!
