This portrait of Edgar Kaiser was filmed in 1968. He was a prominent American industrialist and philanthropist best known for his leadership roles within the Kaiser Industries, a conglomerate of companies founded by his father, Henry Kaiser. Henry Kaiser was a industrialist in his own right, involved in several key industries including construction, shipbuilding, and manufacturing.
Edgar Kaiser played significant roles in the expansion and diversification of the Kaiser Family's businesses. Under his guidance, the conglomerate ventured into new areas, including automotive manufacturing with Kaiser Motors, steel production, health care with the establishment of the Kaiser Permanente health care system, and aluminum manufacturing through Kaiser Aluminum.
One of Edgar Kaiser notable contributions was in the automotive industry. Kaiser Motors (originally Kaiser-Frazer Corporation) was founded in the aftermath of World War II, during a time when there was a high demand for automobiles in the United States. Although Kaiser Motors eventually withdrew from the automobile market due to intense competition, the company was innovative in its designs and contributed to the post-war automotive boom.
Beyond his business ventures, Edgar Kaiser was also recognized for his contributions to philanthropy. He was instrumental in the establishment and expansion of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care System, a pioneering model of integrated health care in the United States. This system was founded on principles of prevention, patient-centered care, and health maintenance, and it remains one of the largest not-for-profit health care plans in the country.
Edgar Kaiser influence extended into international business and philanthropy as well. He was involved in numerous projects and initiatives worldwide, contributing to economic development and health care improvements in various countries.

Another awesome video Mr. Hoffman! I liked where he said his leisure was cleaning his boat, I’m the same way as far as mundane tasks taking my mind off things, I like to mow the lawn because you feel so accomplished afterwards

He said nothing of the sort if you actually listened. In fact, be believed in the welfare state, as he said at the end of the video.

When I read your comment, Drew, I paused and read the description. It contains many worthwhile tidbits, for sure! The philanthropic efforts especially capture my interest. It seems to me people don't often wonder about how the good things that exist came to be. ❤

innovation, productively, progress, etc. ARE NOT a function of money or the freedom to use money in a competitive fashion... competition is a HIGHLY useful thing for humans but it can also create problems when applied across the board without thought.. the problem with capitalism as a system is that it reduces the human being to a consumer in a race that leads to over consumption and mass inequality... certainly competition can weed out the lazy, the less productive, the lessor intelligent, the weaker human beings, etc. to create efficiency that can build a so called industrial or developed country... but the downside to this is that this puts the people at odds with each other which can lead to violence, and internationally as war, over consumption, environmental destruction, social breakdown... AND not all humans see materialism as "success" ... so much talent gets wasted because it is NOT focused on building up capital empires to control others... the sheer fact that the "game" of capitalism is to beat one's neighbor in business to then have a better lifestyle narrows the entire population to largely focus on the acquisition of more and more goods/services which stalls personal development... a better system would allow for the individual to be in competition with himself/herself in lifelong self improvement, furthering education, acquiring skills, etc. which enrich the human being with "success" which can then be shared with a manufacturing, science, art, music, etc. global platform for a uniform high standard of living which can certainly include luxury, BUT without excess, redundancy, hoarding, things collecting dust, overflowing landfills... this means that america has to give up capitalism AND the world has to come together in peace and cooperation under a COMMON system of re-imagined socialism that allows the human being to grow, evolve, become valuable to the community in exchange for a living....

@AA-eq5wk Some of what you're bringing up is in fact happening in various pockets. It's out there if you look for it. im sure you know that anyway. Out of curiosity, are there models you look to as positive examples of how society can ideally be? Individuals/institutions/etc
@AA-eq5wk
@AA-eq5wk Месяц назад
@@MicahScottPnD yes I'm an idealist... I'm not sure what you mean by "models." ... the basis for what I have shared can be proven as science, laws which can be observed in nature... certainly nature is filled with competition, but for thinking humans a 'survival of the fittest" does not include throwing the "herd' or "pack" against each other in free nature, nor does it include taking out competitive species to the point of extinction... a country can be compared to a herd or pack that needs leadership but also includes strong and weak, young and old, male and female and all the other 'demographics" that also make up a human society.. in america, unlike nature, the herd is at war with each, at the very least on a business level to not only outdo the competition, but often eliminate it or consume it.. even those who are not the elite capitalists, the workers, have to also compete with each other for employment, advancement and so forth... but we need competition, as it is part of reality or can be observed in the physical world ... this is needed for variety, for a lack of monopoly, for innovation/evolution, etc... but the level of competition needed can be achieved where the herd is NOT at odds with each other, but instead each individual builds him/herself up with self improvement from whatever interests one might have... certainly there must be equal opportunity for education, learning trades, becoming artists, doing music, studying science, etc. but also encouragement to compete with oneself to advance in self improvement... this is where the productivity comes from... society doesn't need countless different brands, nor advertising, nor should it be based on sales, but rather all resources and manufacturing are directed to providing quality and state of the art for the population... this means many of the products/brands that are sold today go away, and are replaced with efficient global scaling and allocation so to provide a level playing field it terms of consumables... and when your society is not competing over consumption, but rather self improvement, there is no built in selfishness or excessive materialism which leads to environmental and social decline... the whole reason there are wars, especially today when humans have supposedly learned something over the centuries, are because of capitalism pushing consumption beyond borders and overtaking the competition... ALL this ends when global humanity are based on cooperation instead of competition... but still allows for healthy competition to build up the individuals into self responsible, educated, skilled, talented, progressive, etc. humans instead of mere consumers and those who have money...

@@AA-eq5wkI understand where you're coming from. I've spent countless hours on those same subjects. By models, I meant people or institutions or modes of being that you find to be going the direction that you feel is in line with your set of principles. You don't owe me any examples, was just asking.

Great point of view this is looking at it in a “big picture diagnoses”. I believe capitalism is the best system but it’s definitely flawed and I think you described it very well in its flaws.
@AA-eq5wk
@AA-eq5wk 25 дней назад
@@ljv2094 the hard part is humans breaking away from believing that self worth is tied to the accumulation of things... once humans evolve to be able to "let go" easily and live for "less is more," humanity will be on a path to equality that is based on self responsibility rather than dependence to a corp/brands
