The infamous Unusual Glitch - how a routine patch accidentally destroyed one of the biggest economies in gaming, forcing the developers to issue $100s and $1000s of refunds in just a few short hours.
This disastrous bug glitched Team Fortress 2's lootboxes into giving their rarest items (Unusual hats), EVERY single time they were opened. We are talking $1000 value items, which were now dropping 100% of the time at the cost of just $2.50. Valve were disappointingly slow to act, leaving the glitch active for nearly a whole day. It was dubbed: The Crate Depression.
In that time, unspeakable amounts of money was spent and the in-game market was completely ruined. This video tells the story of how it all went down, what Valve (eventually) did to fix the issue, how different groups of players were affected by this glitch, and ultimately how it still has an impact on the game to this day, 4 years later.
